Checked out Mashed Burgers in Englewood Cliffs on a quiet afternoon -- showed up early, and I was actually the only customer there. One guy was holding down the fort at the register (Kevin!), and the place was spotless. He walked me through the menu really clearly and even gave some solid recommendations, which I appreciated. I ended up going with the OKC Fried Onion Mash Burger, added fresh jalapeños, got a side of Cajun fries, and couldn't resist the Fruity Pebbles milkshake -- because how do you not try that? Everything was made fresh to order. The burger had this beautiful thin, crispy Maillard crust that you just don't get at a lot of fast-casual places. Not soggy, not greasy -- just right. The Cajun fries were also spot on: hot, well-seasoned, and clearly just out of the fryer. But real talk -- that milkshake? Absolute 10/10. Ordered via UberEats for a late night snack one Friday night. We had the OKC Fried Onion Double Smash, and onion rings with a side of cheese sauce. The prices are amazing. From the arcade games to the music playing, it was just a very upbeat environment to be in. I ordered a double mash burger and onion rings. Double Mash Burger: Burger patties were perfectly mashed and juicy that was perfect when combined with the caramleized onions, cheese and their signature sauce which was held together with a perfectly toasted potato bun. The gentleman at the register was very cool but that is where it ends. I circled the blocks for 17min looking for parking and parked 3 blocks away. I also got to try the regular fries and onion rings. The burger patties were the thinnest smashed burgers I've ever had. They were very crispy. But something about the entire burger was very sweet. Either the bun or the sauce was way too sweet. The cajun seasoning on the fries was sweet too. I preferred the regular fries, though both were very crispy. The onion rings were more like onion petals. They were well breaded but not quite ring shaped. It was pretty expensive at over $20 for the burger and fries. Upon ordering, the price reflected the cost of 2 burgers of each item for the discounted price, but after checking out I noticed that I was charged for 2 of each item. After speaking to Uber Eats support and explaining to the agent that the BOGO discount was not applied, she promptly explained that I had ordered 2 of each item. When I re-opened my Uber Eats app magically the promo had disappeared from the restaurants page. Imagine that. I really despise leaving a horrible review on any food establishment, but in this case I cannot stay quiet. Yes, the burger's are supposed to be smashed/mashed, so I do not expect a mid rare burger patty. But when the patties are smashed to an 1/8 of an inch thick and cooked like a salty, crispy and dry wafer, along with the audacity to charge $13 and $15 respectively, I have an issue. And what's up with the "Beef Bacon"? There is no such thing. Bacon comes from one animal, the amazing pig. I enjoy Middle Eastern food very much, and there are plenty of choices in Cliffside Park. There are so many Middle Eastern restaurants in Cliffside Park that they are practically next to one another, and in some cases are. Burger establishments should be left to those restauranteurs who know how to make hamburgers, using the proper ingredients that belong in those establishments. See my above reference. Let's mash it up! This is a unique burger spot not like many out there. To start, it prizes it's style on the Halal concept. This alone tells me they don't mess around with garbage ingredients. Then, the name says it all... it's a mashed burger cooked on a flat top. The mashed style is taking a raw patty and flattening it on the grill. This causes the patty to become thinner and therefore the outside cooks to a crispy yumminess. The crispy meat is then placed inside of a soft bun and topped with their signature sauce and thick cut pickles. I highly recommend going for at least 2 patties... add cheese and Halal bacon if you like. As for the sauce- I think I figured it out. They have a unique cajun spice blend in which they incorporate into a mayo based dressing. This gives it a great kick! If you dare to get naughty and spicy then go for the cajun fries. Seriously I ordered from there twice already in one week, and for a burger, I would say it's one of the best ones I have had in awhile in this area. We were 100% impressed on our first visit to Mashed. We really enjoyed the double Halal burger, complete with American cheese, grilled onions, pickels and Mash sauce (I asked for mine on the side but then tried it and liked it - it is mayo-based). We ordered a fruity pebble milkshake - it was promising and they use Haagen daaz ice cream which is a plus. He told her he didn't, he has always picked up after himself in after we've gone out to eat. but he is a teen, so I can understand it may have happened.
