Was recommended this restaurant by a friend. And it did not disappoint. When we walked in here there were only the staff there. The staff here is probably the best I have seen at an Indian restaurant. They are friendly and very attentive. We ordered Gobi Manchurian and Spinich Spring rolls for appetizers. I have never had Spinich Springs rolls at an Indian restaurant. I am glad I ordered them, it was something different that you don't see at other Indian restaurants. For our entrees, we ordered Methi mali Mutter, Paneer Machani, and Garlic Chilly Nan. If you go here order the Methi Malai Mutter, unbelievable. Ordered goat biryani, lamb saag and bhindi on Sunday night for takeout and the food was so bad. The meat was stale, the goat was so tough and stale that it was not even edible. The entire take out went straight to trash. Their food was good but the quality seems to have deteriorated drastically. Total waste of money. Stay away from them. read more

Our our trip back home from New Hampshire to New York my friends and I decided to stop by for some Indian food at Masala Art in Needham. It was highly recommended by a close friend to check them out. For a family business that has been in the area for fifteen years shows the hard work and dedication that this establishment has put into their passion of food and customer service to the community. We had a great spread of appetizers and entree items served family style. For starters we had the papadum, vegetable samosas, malai shrimp and mini tandoor chicken tacos. Our favorites were the malai shrimp and mini tandoor chicken tacos. The malai shrimp was served on a sizzling plate on top of onions and peppers. The marinade on the shrimp was amazing and flavorful. The mini tandoor chicken tacos were in a tortilla scoop shell with the spiced chicken with a cream on top. For entrees we had butter chicken, chicken korma, lamb burger sliders, Malai chicken and basmati rice. We all agreed the food was amazing in flavor. Especially when the saucier dishes are mixed with the fragrant long-grain basmati rice. We also dined on naan bread (plain and garlic) as well as methi poori (a puffed bread that is seasoned with dried fenugreek). For drinks I had the cheese lassi which was refreshing. My sister ordered the green cardamom gimlet which had a great presence of the orange-essence spice without being overpowering. For dessert we shared a small chocolate cake with two scoops of ice cream. What is good about their menu is that they have traditional dishes as well as a few options to please those who are not used to or is new to Indian food. Since my fiancé doesn't usually go outside of his comfort Americanized food he was a little hesitant trying some of the food, but he actually liked some of the more Indian dishes. He loved the Malai chicken, butter chicken and Tandoor Chicken tacos. The service was great as each waiter that attended to our table showed great customer service. I really loved how the backdrop of the bar looked and the dining area is very welcoming. There is street parking out front, but it maybe easier to get parking in the lot in the back of the restaurant. We would definitely return again in the future. read more

Went one more time for their buffet! Decent value but $18 for a lunch buffet still feels a little steep to me, though I'm not sure what other restaurants offer Indian lunch buffet in the area. The chicken do-pyaza I mentioned last review was available at the buffet but the meat was not cooked quite as well as I remember, though the gravy was just as tasty. Other options also ok. Went here last Sunday for dinner. The place is huge and has a good ambiance. They start off by giving you a complimentary papad and sauces. The presentation was really good and got my hopes raised for the food. We ordered the mangotini and old fashioned drinks and they both were good! From there, it just went downhill. We ordered paneer kathi roll spice level 7. Also ordered veg lollipop. We waited for almost 25 mins to get our appetizers and I was super hungry! Finally the kathi rolls came out which were a DISASTER. They were not spicy for a level 7 plus they were no where close to the kathi rolls you get in India or other restaurants here. It was just paneer burji wrapped in a roti. That's it! Usually there is some chutney on the inside, some onion, chaat masala. They charged $9 for this. The veg Lollipop was just OK. For main course, we ordered chili garlic noodles. Seeing the paneer kathi roll spice level being mild, we asked for level 7; on a scale of 1 to 10 but the server said it would be too spicy. So he made us try level 5. And THANKS to our server; he SAVED us. For level 5, it was SUPER SPICY. I eat a lot of spicy food but this was unbearable. I can't imagine how the next spice levels would be for the noodles. We also ordered a to-go order of malai kofta; level 5. Again it was SOOO SPICY. They really have to think about their spice levels. You can't have level 7 being mild for one dish and level 5 which is unbearable for another dish. The last was our bill. I used the Yelp offer to save $5. This offer doesn't have any bar code that needed to be scanned or any code that needed to be entered on the screen. I showed the server and he WALKED away with my phone. Why would someone take my phone when all it had was a $5 off offer! He came back with the adjusted bill and DROPPED my phone! It was truly ridiculous. I won't be going back again. read more

My favorite Indian restaurant. I've tried others nearby Singh's, Tandoori, and this one takes the win for me. I first went in person when an Indian friend took me, he told me it was not his favorite and I ate more at other places before circling back and I can confirm that this place tastes the freshest and most magnificent to me. The breads are excellent and taste very fresh. The Saag Paneer and Tikka Masala were superb, very creamy and the Paneer tasted very fresh like homemade. So many reasons to wax rhapsodical about Masala Art! - The space is, well, spacious; high ceilings, clean design, plenty of room between tables and booths; great for groups. - The service is attentive and well-timed. - The menu is extremely varied, with something for everyone. - The food? Absolutely delicious. The shrimp pakora is amazingly fresh, the lamb rogan josh is perfectly spiced, the garlic naan is super fluffy and the baigan bhartha (eggplant) has a fantastic smoky flavor. - Leftovers come in perfectly separated little containers. It doesn't sound like much, but it leaves a great lingering impression of the resturant. If you have more than a couple people, I highly recommend getting the vegetarian and non-vegetarian platter so you can try a wide range of appetizers. Very disappointed with the quality of the food. We ordered Butter Chicken and Chicken Tikka Masala. The Chicken Tikka Masala seemed to be all slivers of slimy brown meat but, worse than that, were the several pieces of bone and gristle. The Butter Chicken had chunkier white meat, but the chicken was over cooked and I also had a piece of gristle or cartilage that I had to spit out. The waits at Sweet Basil and Farmhouse were too long, so Masala Art was our third stop to try to get seated for dinner on a Saturday night in Needham. We were seated immediately, which maybe should have been a warning sign. We were seated by the window on a circular booth seat that had a lot of markings on it. The decorative poofs on the seat had many tears and clearly need to be replaced. Our menus were tattered and falling apart (see photo). And our water glasses were filthy. I had to ask for new ones immediately. I felt very put off by the lack of care put into the furnishings and table setting. The menu is a monstrosity featuring way too many options. A huge red flag - I mean, seriously, it's 4-5 pages and includes a section labeled "Indian Chinese". ... My husband tried to ask for menu recommendations, but the waiter was not very helpful. He seemed in a rush to take our orders. My aunt asked for medium rare lamb kebabs, and the waiter said that was fine. However, when they came, they were well done and terribly chewy and tough. I'm a huge fan of dosas, but mine were a disappointment... utterly bland. Only my husband had a pleasant meal - the tandoori chicken was adequate, though certainly not the best we've eaten. The waiter was the friendliest to us right before he offered the check. Go figure. I'd never return. read more

Alright first review of year 2016 We went to masala art with my cuz who.said it was a good place to.go as we were visiting him. The place is located downtown deedham and has street parking only. It was full house and waiting even though it is a big place. Never seen indian rest. so packed and waiting on top of that. So.we waited 15 min before we.were sat down. Apparently their dinks has to be good since every single person was holding a drink and they were no beer. We glanced at the menu and there were quite a few new items that we have not seen at other rest. So we ordered vada pav and tandoori veggies for apps and the the tandoori veggies were relly nice. Great flavors and nicely burnt edges . Vada pav was ok. Vada were preety good but the pav were not that good. Chutneys were really.good For entree we got paneer pasanda and veg.manchurian which came with fried rice. For bread we got garlic naan and i got tabaahi naan which is spicy filled with green chillies. Everything was good and we liked the food. We also got lassi's which were made from ready bought yogurt. That was a let down even though they were pretty decent. Paneer pasanda was made with cashew white gravy and was milder and sweeter and nutier while veg manchurian was as indo chinese as it can get and was good. Fried rice tasted good but still tasted lil different but cannot pinpoint what was wrong. Did not order any non veg items this time but they were some really good looking stuff in menu and not to mention glass kitchen with tandoor overlooking main dinning room those kebobs looks really good and hence 4 stars. ( one extra based on forward looking non veg deliciousness.) Def great place to go. One thing i did not like ( not a problem for me or any deal killer) was there was a wall with 3 ganesha (indian god) carvings and right underneath it was all bottle and top shelf liquors. For people who dont know we indians usually dont put all those kind of stuff near god and even the table next to us were talking about it how that was not that appropriate. The restaurant has a lot of seating and interior looks ok. As a team of 12, we took buffet on 1/25/2020. The choice is quite limited. There are chat related items, 3 vegetarian gravies, 2 chicken gravies and a chicken tandoori, 1 lemon rice and 1 white basmati rice. Food is tasty. I am surprised that there is no biryani (veg or non-veg). All non-veg items are chicken items. Variety is missing. I had to make multiple trips to see if there is any thing I can like. I am disappointed. There is no free parking. Staff did not appear to be active and enthusiastic. We had to ask them to refill veg starter item. Though we put the credit card, nobody took it to the cashier. We had to do it ourselves. read more

Vey very overpriced and the quantity is miniscule. Chicken lollypop came in 3 piece of chicken only. Chicken lollypop was made in pure ketchup and was nowhere close to proper taste. Veg lollypop was very small 4 piece. And they had sweet pretzel stick in it. The server was pretty rude and keep bugging us to put our order quickly.
