Aside from delivery coming faster than they said it would, Masakari was...not good. There are dozens of better sushi options in the area. Most of what I had was tasteless. The soup was bland, the kani salad was all cucumber, no kani, and tasted like water, the pink bunny roll had barely any fish and all crunch, and the spicy salmon was mediocre. Meh. They're definitely skimping on fish and giving more fillers than anything else. They also gave barely any soy sauce. Mitoushi across the street is 100x better.

Was here a few years ago. The duck was great. Came back recently... it has gotten worse. Shumai was okay. Service was fine. Yakitori and duck were overcooked. I would never want to be judged based on one assignment/dish, but that was not good. I might give this place one more try, best 2 out of 3 kind of thing. I also got a dragon roll. It tasted fine just that the amount of eel was quite small considering it is $10.

Stopped by this place for a quick dinner. They have a good variety of your typical sushi restaurant items from sushi rolls to fancy sushi bar apps. Menu has many to select from with fair pricing. However, there's no ambiance. The vibe is really off and It can get really packed and busy here. It was busy so service was on the slower end. The Hamachi Kama was nicely made, cooked just right. The Yellowtail Jalepeno w. Ponzu could have been a little colder for that refreshing taste. They had a madai special, it was good but nothing special. The Grilled Black Cod was alright but too sweet for my tastebuds. The fried green tea ice cream was the worst I've had, tasted old and refried.

Out of most of the sushi restaurants in Brooklyn this one is one of my favorites . The staff is always really sweet and on top of things. The ambiance is also really nice . I personally think their food alwaysss tastes fresh and flavorful. It's one of those spots in my neighborhood that if I'm going to get sushi it would most likely be there. Everything I got today was delicious! If your in sheepshead area definitely check them out !

Decided to try a new sushi place in the area instead of going to my usuals and it did not disappoint. Everything was really fresh except for the red tuna. I never really liked red tuna to begin with but I could tell this tuna wasn't that great. Other than that, everything else was extremely fresh, especially the yellowtail! They also offer raw seabass which was really good and rarely seen on the menu for sushi restaurants. I wasn't too big of a fan of their chef's special sauce that they put on top of some of the special rolls but that's okay because I can just tell them to swap it out with a different sauce next time! The restaurant is extremely accommodating and will substitute or alter anything to your liking.

I was once a frequent visitor of Masakari, many, many years ago. Once the sushi darling in Sheepshead Bay, Masakari has really let itself go. With all of the sushi restaurants occupying the Sheepshead Bay area, it's easy to just walk into one and think you're getting the same food and service. However, as the years have gone by, obvious frontrunners have raced to the front and left the rest behind. Masakari is one of those left behind. Recently, my wife and I stopped in for a random lunch on a Saturday afternoon. We had only been here together once a few years ago and the experience was ok, like all our other experiences when we didn't go together. The one thing that really stood out, back in the day, was the sparkling, clean decor, but lack of a diverse menu. Unfortunately, the menu hasn't changed much, and even worse, after a renovation a year ago, the restaurant seems to somehow have deteriorated already. The decor looked faded and old. When we walked into the restaurant, we were greeted immediately and seated. There was only 1 other table of customers. The place was not very bright, as I remembered it. The menu was very much lacking. Compared to the top sushi restaurants in the area (Chikirin, Mitoushi and Omiya), the sushi options were limited, specifically the sushi rolls and sushi. There wasn't much to choose from. We decided to order 2 Maki Specials ($8.95 for 3 rolls with a soup/salad side) from the lunch special menu. We also ordered a sashimi lunch as well, which came with 10 pieces of sashimi and a soup/salad. Our food came fairly quickly and the rolls were OK. They weren't huge or anything extraordinary, but comparable to some sushi spots. The sashimi was pretty fresh tasting and we had no complaints about that. The real controversy started when we received our bill. To our surprise, our Maki Specials were $9.95 and 9.45, respectively. We were a bit perturbed as we remembered it stating it was $8.95 for the 3 sushi rolls for the Maki Special. It was only a difference of $1.50 total, but we informed our waitress, who was also baffled. After a few minutes, the waitress, as well another gentleman came to us and tried to expain that because we ordered rolls that were pricier than others that we wouldn't get the $8.95 Maki Special pricing. The waitress and other employee apologized profusely about the misunderstanding with the pricing and actually admitted that the menus needed to be updated. The waitress, who claimed she was new, informed us that if she knew the menu price was not completely accurate and instead was dependent on the choice of sushi rolls, she would have informed us. We told the employees it was OK and not a huge issue, but we expected them to honor their menu price. Wrong. After they apologized and admitted that it was their mistake, they looked at us and asked if we were OK with everything, meaning were we OK with the bill as is. My wife and I just looked at each other in bewilderment because we couldn't believe that they were willing to hold onto the $1.50 in exchange for their reputation of not honoring the menu price. At the end of day, we paid the price they listed on the bill and left very unhappy. To summarize, the restaurant has seen its best days. Despite the issue with the bill, my observations would not have changed regarding the decor and lack of variety on their menu. It's just that the bill issue added to our already declining opinion. The good news is that there are other great sushi restaurants in Sheepshead Bay and plenty of them to choose from. But Masakari won't be on that list anytime soon.

I gave it a 5 because of the waiter. I think his name was edward...what a nice guy. Walked in with only a few people there. It was Monday 3pm, so no crowds. Usually on the weekends, the place is packed. My buddy already was seated and having spicy edamame, but they were not that spicy at all. Was able to order sone really good sake that Ed recommended. Wow it was good. We ordered the jalapeno yellowtail which was nice, and a Chilean sea bass. We pit sone brown rice in the sea bass sauce and pow, it was delish. We had another sake which was a little drier but easily drinkable. We topped that off with green tea ice cream and we were ready for sleep. As i said, i gave it a 5, because of our waiter who as far as concerned made it enjoyable and making good suggestions. I would definitely return, but not at peak times!!

Best sushi locally! Amazing presents, fresh fish, and delicious! We had the chef prepare something special for our party ahead of time and WOW! I'm sorry I missed the opportunity to take more pictures. Great variety of sake, they also accommodate for any special diets or allergies, which was a big deal as we had a lot of variations of eaters. All together, a great spot, very warm hospitality and outstanding food quality.

Terrible place! We have been ordering from this place for a while, and tonight was the last time! It progressively gotten worst with each order! Freshness of food, taste of food, service, workers! 4 out of 5 workers barely understand English and are not able to take an order properly, read the instructions properly, not do they know what is on their own menu! Stay away! There is about 10 other sushi places on sheepshead bay road alone! read more

This had to get a five stars! I have literally been coming here since the place opened with my family. The food quality is always at the top of its game and the sauces here are unbelievable. Depending on who you have waiting on you can really alter your experience. For the most part the staff is good and by far the best is ANDREAS! If you are lucky enough to have Andreas as your waiter you will literally feel as though you are in the most expensive place and getting the most ridiculous service. Seriously, he's that good. My gf and I came here with my parents after raving about him and they too were floored with his service which was really nice. I always get the chicken hibachi which is delicious and the whole table gets sushi and sashimi and they find it to be fantastic. My family knows their sushi and they will not go anywhere else. If on sushi road and trying to decide which place to go to then check this out. Also get the dessert Napoli ice cream.... It's amazing! read more

WOW! This place is simply superb. I believe the selling point of this restaurant is its extensive menu choices and its ever changing menu. Andreas is also quite the man. He makes you feel like you are dining in a 5 star restaurant with his exceptional service. Please give this star a raise. Keep him before you lose him to the many other sushi places around the area, and there are many. read more

This store has the worst customer service ever. I placed my order online and went to the store thing it would be ready. I show some one place an order in front of me and got their order before I did, they didn't order anything less than me. The person first took 5 minutes to check on my order to tell me soon. Later on she tells me a few more minutes, I specifically ask her how long is a few more minutes and she tells me 2-3 when it really took another 10 minutes. I order my food at 7:13 pm and got it 7:44 pm. read more

We have been going to this sushi spot for ages, because it has quality food for a reasonable price. The service is good as well, but they do tend to get busy very often. I don't think that I ever disliked anything that I have eaten in this establishment. I especially recommend the Chilean Sea Bass roll with black rice. Their specials are always food, but the simple rolls are always fresh and delicious. They just renovated, and I am excited to visit the place again. I will surely update my experience in the new renovate place. read more

Our friend recommended this restaurant to us and we decided to try. Prime location, nice seating area, good decoration and very attentive employee. The food was less than mediocre. Crispy duck roll was literally burned, Vegetable tempura roll was mushi and tasteless. I like squid appetizer, but, honestly, it was kind of big and needed some side or salad. The worst part for me was, that preparation is not clean. I am allergic to fish and we ordered only not fish rolls. But my allergic reaction start immediately as soon as i tried the roll. Most likely, it contained some fish residue from the knife that chef used. We're not gonna return back again. read more

For the staff alone I have to give five stars. We are seldom in the area, but the last time we visited, almost two months ago, my friend left a bag with dance shoes behind, which we thought had been lost. When we visited again this past weekend, the staff remembered us and gave us back the bag! Amazing. Food-wise, this is a nice option for the neighborhood. I haven't had the sushi, just the udon, which didn't skimp on the meat and other goodies and so was very filling and satisfying. read more

Strictly average to me. Totally hit or miss here, and I agree with my fellow Yelpers - freshness tends to be questionable. I shouldn't have to gamble if my sushi will be ehh or ewwww when I go out. read more

The best thing about this place are their prices. Sushi was actually comparable to the other places who charge $8 per roll. After consuming about 10 rolls, 1 toro, 1 dessert, a miso soup, and endless cups of green tea, the bill came out to about $13-$17 each with tax and tip between me and my 2 friends. If I could give it zero stars I would. Fair point before the rant: the food itself has ALWAYS been amazing. The food itself gets 5 stars. Best sushi in the area. The wait, however, has nearly always been colossal. Whether ordered direct, or via an app. After the order was an hour and a half late and still not here (that's important, because "Alissa" said they were running 1.5 hours on delivery), I called. I was told "hold please" immediate by "Selina" and proceeded to listen, for over 5 minutes, to the activity of the restaurant, as Selina simply put the phone down. Two people called on separate lines and were assisted (awesome). Someone came to the actual counter and talked about an order. After over 5 min, I heard someone say "is someone on the phone?" and simply hung it up, while I was speaking and saying I was on the phone waiting. So I called back, for another 3 minutes of attempts, due to the line being busy. Selina, who took the original call, never apologized for what happened, and said she was new and didn't know the name of the manager (still wondering how that happens, who hired you then??). Then she handed me off to Alissa, who spent over 4 min arguing they were busy, and justifying the treatment because "it's raining and they're busy" but never even apologizing for what happened. She, too, seemed to have NO knowledge of the manager's name, simply that he was not there due to coronavirus. I asked for the owner's info, she said "only if you speak Chinese. You speak Chinese?" I expressed that I would take this to social media and the BBB... she responded "have fun." And hung up. The punchline: Order arrived about 5 min after that. It was wrong. I will never order from them again, and I will make sure others know how that went down. read more

I'm very picky with the quality of sushi I eat and I was more than pleasantly surprised with this restaurant ! I ordered the Sushi and Sashimi deluxe platter and its UNBELIEVABLE fresh! They are not cheap on the size of sashimi which was very nice to see. The service was great too, we had a blond waitress (Sorry I forgot your name) and she was very pleasant. She checked on us enough without being annoying. Overall great place. read more

We love coming here. They are always busy and there are reasons for that. The food is great and the service is friendly. The prices are very reasonable. Just have to rate it on the last experience. Placed an order and when I got there, they didn't have it and claimed the phone was disconnected. They had someone picking up the phones that barely spoke English and probably didn't understand me when I said that's it thank you. Very disappointing. read more

This is the best sushi in sheepshead bay hands down!!! Depending on the time there is a wait but it is very quick. Once you sit down service is readily fast, quick and prompt. Andreas and Andy are the best servers I've ever had! They are friendly, professional, quick and have very good energy. They bring the food quickly as well as the food is delicious all around. I never got anything i didn't like. The fish is fresh, the combinations are well put together, the special rolls are great. You cant get anything bad. The desert, wine, sake is all perfect you need everything to complete the experience. read more

This is my go-to place for sushi. The fish is always super fresh, and it's cheaper than similar quality places in Manhattan. Even my boyfriend, who is picky when it comes to the quality of sushi, likes Masakari. The rolls during the weekday are a very good deal. It does get busy for dinner, but I've never had to wait more than 5-10 minutes for a table. read more

I've been here a few times and had good experiences. The atmosphere is pretty nice and the tables are evenly spaced out. Their fish is usually fresh and well prepared. They don't charge extra for spicy mayo if you eat there so that's great. I love spicy mayo with my spicy salmon roll. The mango avocado rolls are refreshing and fresh. What sets Masakari apart from the other typical Brooklyn sushi places would be their rice, it's chewy and vinegared/sweetened to the right degree. The service isn't too friendly but they understand your orders and leave you alone after your food has come, which I'm not complaining about. read more

My favorite sushi place on Sheepshead bay road. First off, the restaurant itself is really nice, it has enough space to seat everyone comfortably but it is also cosy. I love the interior design, and the fish tank as well. The sushi here is really awesome, you can tell they care about their food because it is fresh, and the arrangements on the plate are always a plus. The only con I could think of is that more often than not, the waitresses like to hover over you until you decide to order, which can be a little overwhelming. I wish they would give me some space when ordering and then come back and write it down instead of basically being two feet away from you looking back and forth. read more

I used to love this place but I think they got so popular that they started skimming on the quality . Last few times I been here the food is just not good . They have one dish thats amazing which is Enoki Patayaki that very few places do so I go there , but Sushi is just weak . Get better fish guys so I can come back . read more

Did reservation - for 6pm on Sunday. Waited for 20 minutes outside, place is extremely busy! People were sitting very close to each other... If you order anything from kitchen - teriyaki for example, you get right away warning " kitchen is very- very busy, order some entry or sushi instead". Too busy!!!, always feels rushed out, noisy! Tip: do not come on Sunday, evening time... Not coming back. read more

The best sushi place in Brooklyn. It was recommended by one of my friends. Worth 1 hour drive from queens, super affordable prices, but top quality fish. We ordered live scallop, a whole fish of Madai and a bunch of special rolls. Took a lot of pictures, but somehow all got deleted by my baby boy. If I lived nearby, I would come here every freaking day. Will definitely come back soon. Wish they would open one in Queens, until then, I will make time to come as often as possible. The only thing I hate is parking, which is a pain. But the food will make it up!! read more

Leron's Lesson: Great sushi spot with fresh ingredients and cheap prices. Full Review: Had dinner here last weekend and was stuffed beyond belief. The food was wonderul, definitely try the New York Roll and the Salmon Tempura rolls. Plus I had a Cajun roll which was interesting. The service was very fast and I was impressed by how attentive the staff was. Every time I ask for spicy mayo, they brought it within seconds. I'll definitely be back and I'll bring friends, who doesn't love sushi? read more

Here during super bowl sunday. Got seated & they had the game on. Hubby wanted to sit closer to the tv so they had no issue moving us. Absolutely terrible sushi. Smelly, old fish, overcooked rice, waiters who hardly speak 2 words of English, so don't even think asking any questions. You will have no idea what they say. Anywhere else you go, you'll be better off. This place is a mockery of sushi at best. read more

Although it's not exactly the fanciest sushi restaurant, I've been coming back here with friends and family for years. The staff is usually very friendly and accommodating, the sushi is VERY fresh, and the prices are astonishingly low for the quality of the fish. Over all this place is amazing especially for the price. The ambiance isn't bad too. Make sure to try the green tea crepe cake if you still have room after sushi read more

Best sushi option on Sheepshead Bay. They have good waiters and the chefs know what they are doing. I love the spicy tuna on crunchy wasabi crackers and the mussels in spicy sauce and the creamy mushroom soup and the Hamachikama. Great atmosphere with good pricing and very well prepared and presented. Very clean establishment. read more

The owners of this place are some of the friendliest in the neighborhood! I'll definitely be coming back here for more sushi, the seasoned edamame, mango kani salad and the wasabi crackers. Too bad they ran out of the black sesame ice cream, but the lady M green tea crepe plus strawberry was a fabulous touch for the buds. There's so many good choices on the menu and it's budget friendly. I only wish I had a few more stomachs to fit everything I wanted to try! read more

I like this place. This place is a mess. At 9:09 PM, I called to make a order for take out, but for the second time, they didn't have a working phone. So I arrived at the restaurant to order from there. The order was made at 9:24. and I received it at 9:57... the order was sitting next to the cashier for at least 10 minutes and when I got it home, it was all soggy... With phones that don't work, a number of clients walking in to complain about their orders, and me waiting over 30 minutes for my order which is now just soggy... this place is a mess. read more

Ah Sheepshead Bay, home of 15 sushi establishments and growing. Now the question is how do you sustain a business and not be a lonely little restaurant with cups of hot eat, with no patrons..? Don't be cheap! Be innovative! I LOVE Masakari. As a vegetarian, they have more choices for me than most other sushi places around! The Veggie Tempura Roll is a must try. Now, when I order my rolls with brown rice, I do not get charged .50 extra! A lil garnish and some ginger dressing go a long way without the audacity to charge 1.00 extra. Other than the perks, the delivery is quick, the pick up order placement is efficient and best of all, the fish is the freshest here. This is my default sushi location due to decor, the tvs (which always show a game) and the staff and most importantly the use and presentation of the food. YUM! 4-4.5 stars depending on the day! read more

Masakari - Brooklyn Few weeks ago, my fiancé and I joined our friends for their annual anniversary at their favorite sushi place in Brooklyn - Masakari. My fiancé and I all about healthy and homemade food and this was the first time to try something new and hopefully we would like it. The place was amazing and people were so kind and helpful, that we fall in love with the place right away. But, we had a little trouble of choosing food...it was something different and new to us. For appetizers, we had so much to choose from...Edemame, Shumai, Gyoza, Kaki Fry, Samble Mussels and many more. There were so much to choose from that we could not figure out what we wanted and we have stopped on Edemame and Wasabi Crackers. I have never tried Edemame in my life. I always thought it has to be cleaned from the shell before putting on the table, but it was so different when I saw it on the table. My Edemame had a shell on them and salt on top of them. When I tasted Edemame, I was amazed how well they were cooked - they weren't uncooked or overcooked; they were perfectly cooked well. I have never expected them to taste so good, but when the time came to eat Wasabi Cracker I was so excited. They looked so cute, like chips with some kind of dressing or missed things on top of them. Crackers were already spicy, and salmon wasn't cooked it was raw and spicy; I had never ate raw fish in my life, but I liked it. Wasabi Crakers were amazing and they tasted to different and good that I wanted more of them. It means that I will definitely come back and have so more :) For the Sushi, our friends ordered their favorite dish - Pink Bunny Roll. This roll included: tuna, salmon, eel, crunch tempura, tobiko o: pink soybean sheets and wasabi curry sauce. At first when I saw the dish on the table it looked a little weird to me, I never thought that you can mix so many different types of fish in one roll. When I tried it, it tasted so different that it took me a while to eat. At first I was trying what type of fish I am eating, than I was eating the whole roll and I have tasted the magic of the roll. It tasted so good, that I wasn't getting tired of eating it. I never thought that I could like something like that after eating healthy homemade food. Masakari is great place to visit and I would recommend it to people who loves to eat sushi. read more

Seems that the place has gone downhill since we last ate there 3 years ago. We used to love Masakari despite the train car layout and crowdiness, which was largery alleviated by a very friendly and professional manager who stood in the front to greet people and made rounds to ensure everyone was OK. We went there on Father's day and here is what completely pissed me off: 1. Half of our party came on time, half came 30 minutes late. They gave our table away and had the first half sit at one table and the second half at the other table, so much for a family celebration. 2. Without first taking our orders, they have informed us at 3:30 that this table is reserved, and when we asked for what time, they told us 6, at which point, my hubby, who is usually very quiet, asked "Are you trying to kick us out of here?" 3. The sushi which was never that great compared to other places, tasted terrible. My son had asked for no seaweed in his cucumber roll and it tasted completely bland, it had tons of rice and like 2 strands of cucumbers inside, he could not finish it. 4. The hibachi dishes were still OK, the only good remnant of the old days. 5. The sesame beef appetizer was very, very salty, my kids usually like any kind of beef on a stick, they both refused to eat it. 6. The servers have not even come once to check if everything was OK. There was a front manager, a young girl whom I have first mistaken for a customer. Masakari used to be unusual in its fusion concept, which made us forgive the layout and the business of it, however, both the food and the service have gone downhill so I am crossing it off my favorite places list. read more

Ordered a large order around 7pm. Food was not delivered by 9pm. I called and spoke with Lisa at 9pm. She said the food was made and would be delivered in 5-10min. It was not. At 1020pm (over 3hrs after order) I called again at which point Lisa suggested that due certain mistakes at Masakari, they can no longer prepare the food. She said she would refund the money and offered a 10% discount on next order. Given the significant mistakes and mismanagement I declined such a small discount. read more

I use to love this place. Last few times I ordered I actually got sick. It went from the best sushi place in Bklyn to crap. I called after I made the correlation of getting sick and the nights I ordered out to find out they changed fish venders and have been getting complaints and that they were looking for switch back. At least that's what the person on the phone told me. Can't try and cut corners when dealing with raw (sushi grade) fish. That's all I gotta say. read more
