Unlike some other popular and hip spots in Austin, there is plenty of reasonable parking space in front and next to the restaurant, which is a huge plus to avoid sketchy street parking. There is both interior and exterior seating and it's a chill vibe at this spot. Service is a sit down service and very prompt and friendly. We got a 3 dip chip sampler and the mini taco samplers. Their birria and al pastor meats are excellent and their mini tacos and quesadillas are very solid for the price as well. Yes yes and more yes. Finally got to stop by on a Friday evening for happy hour. The restaurant started to fill up as time passed. They have a walk up counter where you order your food or you can sit and order at the bar. They also have HH specials. We ordered a variety of tacos on flour and corn tortillas. Ingredients are as fresh as they can be! I've tried the Al Pastor and the Barbacoa de Cachete, along with the Elote Callejero. My personal favorite was the Al Pastor, which is really not a surprise as it's a classic. Meat was tender with basic ingredients that gave those classic Latin flavors (cilantro, lime, red onions). Came here with our friend who's local and a regular. Plenty of parking available in their lot which is a huge plus for Austin. The interior and outdoor patio are spacious, bright and clean. To start, we got the tres compadres. The chips are seasoned well, thin and crispy. The salsa and queso had good flavors as well. The 5 mini taco plate was perfect to sample different meats. Inside of the store was very well kept & clean. As for the food, it was solid. When we initially visited Mas y Mas, they were fairly new and with most things, it takes some time to get your bearings and after our latest visit, they are on the right track. They were packed when we arrived which is great for business. Even though the register was busy, the employees still had a smile on their face and they were very nice. We had the pleasure of having Misael M. wait on us and he was so lovely!!! I appreciated his recommendations and for helping me decide on my entree. Plus, he has a really beautiful smile! I have been anxiously awaiting the opening of this restaurant, and today (1) it was opening day; (2) I was nearby; (3) I was hungry. All signs pointed to my enjoying lunch at Masa y Mas. This location has been home to many restaurants in the past--remember Austin Pizza?--but I was awed by the beautiful transition to Masa y Mas. There is a very nice outdoor dining area, and the inside is bright and airy with high ceilings and lots of windows that admit exterior light. Really pretty. It is a casual restaurant where you order at the counter, and your meal is delivered to you, wherever you are sitting. I tried the Camarones Fritas--Cerveza Battered Shrimp, Cabbage, Chipotle Mayo, Pineapple Pico, Radish, Avocado, Blue Corn Tortilla. Mine did not come on a blue corn tortilla, but otherwise, it was very tasty. The taco had four shrimp, which were lightly battered and fried. It was so full, I could not fold it over to eat it; but I am not complaining. Had to try the chips and queso and, hey, there were several bottles of tequila so, yeah, add a marg, rock, no salt to my order. The margarita arrived with salt, but there was a straw, so I slurped it up. Bartender did not skimp on the tequila. :) Chips were good--thick and crispy, maybe made in house?--and the queso was yellow and dense topped with pico de gallo. I didn't intend to, but I ate it all. The service was good and friendly, and one of the owners, Chuck, came by to introduce himself and make sure things were good. They were. Solid taco addition to the neighborhood with a great happy hour. We came for lunch on a Monday (they are now open Mondays!) and were very happy with our orders. For starters, I love a place that has a varity of salsas. We tried them all. I think my favorites were the green salsa and the habanero but it's worth trying them all. I ordered the queso (on HH, which I think is all day Mondays but not sure) and two tacos. The shrimp taco on the house made purple corn tortillas was fantastic! Any place that makes their corn tortillas will always be a step up in my book. I also ordered the special of the week which was good but not great. I probably should have gone with one of the other items on the menu. The queso was solid but I didn't love the top layer of cooked cheese because it just seemed to break the chips since they are on the thinner side. Lotta hype for this restaurant given it's lineage and it's crowded even for a weekday lunch. It's about the going rate for non-street tacos, although arguably most of the meats lean more towards a street taco in simplicity. The masa part of masa y mas definitely holds true. The tortillas are great here, especially the blue corn. The flour tortillas are pillowy soft too and build a great base for the tacos. As for fillings, al pastor was the best of the bunch that we had - flavorful, tender pork cradles perfectly in the taco, with sweet pineapple laced throughout. The fried shrimp were crisp and they were accompanied by crisp cabbage, just enough sauce and again some nice sweetness from the pineapple. The birria was honestly a bit disappointing - meat was tender and seasoned well enough, but the consome is not birria like at all, nor is the tortilla dipped in that red grease yet the taco is still hefty as expected. Chips and dip combo lets you try everything and I wish they made their chips in house given they are masa y mas, but the chips are run of the mill. The guac is good (nice touch with the pumpkin seeds), queso has good goo and flavor (with some crisped cheese on top) and the salsa...was honestly just ok (bit weird ice cold). Drink wise, horchata is great. Not too sweet and definitely refreshing on a hot day. All that being said, does it live up to the hype? We visited for happy hour, which runs from 3-6 PM on Mondays through Fridays. There's an indoor area with some cute but simple decorations and an outdoor patio with a good amount of seating. There wasn't too many people when we came, so we were able to order immediately and get our food quickly. One thing to note is that we didn't get the happy hour pricing until we said something, so just double check that the pricing is correct! I got the Passionfruit Mezcalrita for a drink (not included in happy hour), and I thought the smokiness of the mezcal overpowered any of the fruity flavors in the drink, but it was still good and strong! We ordered the Tres Compadres (salsa, guac, and queso) for appetizers. The guacamole didn't taste super fresh, but everything was still decent. There's a salsa station at the front of the restaurant, which is convenient. For tacos, I ordered the grande birria taco and the grande carne guisada taco. My boyfriend ordered the grande carne asada taco and the grande pollo adobado taco. I enjoyed my carne guisada taco, but I wouldn't the others again. First time here. Pictured here is a beef birria street taco on corn in front and a grande beef cheek (locally called barbacoa) on flour. Hubby had a pastor on flour (we saw them slice the meat off of the trompo) and carnitas. It was alllll so delicious! This little margarita packed a punch and so did the habanero salsa. First time checking out Masa y Mas and this is a more authentic version of Torchy's Tacos. If you like fast to-go tacos then you have to check this place out for a more traditional taco on Mexican tacos. They weren't the best tacos I've ever had in my life but they are much better than Velvet Taco, Torchys, etc. that are located in Austin. I'm going to start with our biggest complaint - masa is the first name of this place and is half of the restaurant's name, but the masa tortillas were just... slimy? They were so slippery to touch, while the outside ring of the tortilla was really hard. It was like they made the tortillas a few days ago and just kept them in the fridge and just use them straight from the fridge without heating them up. I wish they didn't taste worse than straight-from-the-bag corn tortillas. Al Pastor - A bit above average al pastor for me. I won't come back for it, but it was good! Birria - This taco didn't suffer from the bad tortillas so these are already a favorite. It doesn't come with consommé so it isn't quite an authentic birria experience, but dang was it really good. I heavily recommend this, and well birria tacos in general Pollo Adobado - I wasn't expecting much out of this taco but this was an easy 2nd place out of my 3 tacos with Al Pastor trailing far behind these two. I would definitely get this and birria again. Salsas - Three salsas were available to me initially. Verde was the best, followed by Orange, and trailed by Habanero. Habanero has a decent trailing spice to it, but the habanero salsa has such a strong nutty flavor or something that makes it just... not for me. I managed to try creamy green later on and it was alright. Overall, not hugely into these salsas. I wanted to try the chip and queso but I saw clearly store-bought chips in photos here with mediocre looking queso so I opted against that. And finally, the rear seating area was closed down so we were all squished in the front seating. Wasn't ideal and I found it odd that a place that just opened is already closing sections of seating. Oh and value... these tacos are $5 each. Not a good deal when you compare them to other $5 tacos that are quite a bit larger. It's just an adequate price. Overall, this place has the meat game locked down. Tortillas can use a huge improvement - these tortillas will probably be the reason we don't come back because some of us are tortilla fanatics. I've been here multiple times with different groups, and the tacos satisfy our group every time. They have enough variety to serve different taste buds and food preferences. I really like the shrimp and barbacoa tacos in mais azul tortilla. I also really appreciate the variety of salsas they have available. I love a good salsa selection and really can't decide which one I like best, so I always just add a little bit of each in every bite. :) They have outdoor as well as indoor seating. Dogs are welcomed. The only thing I really don't like about coming to this place is their parking situation. the spaces are very compact and scarce. read more

So my son and daughter-in-law suggested this place and WOW - great call! Between our whole group we had 7 of the varieties of tacos and they were ALL phenomenal. The meats we flavorful and moist. Even the corn tortillas (that I really don't like) were super moist - I actually ate one and enjoyed it. The Nachos - wow wow - queso with guacamole and the meat of choice - again, it takes nachos to a complete different level. The sauces are also amazing - from little heat to jalapeño sauce (good heat AND flavor) and manzano (also Los of heat but great flavor!) The beverages are different flavors - I had the hibiscus and it had a great flavor. The watermelon was also good as was the pineapple. Came here at 4pm on a Saturday the weekend they opened and it was busy! Parking - as others have mentioned, it's a tight parking lot and a popular spot. My husband and I took Evergreen Street then Mary Street while going north bound on Lamar and we were able to park in the back parking lot. If you're in a pinch with parking, you could probably street park on either Evergreen or Mary Streets and walk over. Seating and ambiance - you order at the front then take your seat with a number. There's some seating outside and smaller booths and high top seating indoors. We have an infant and although it was tight we were able to sit 4 plus our car seat in a booth. People with kids, I'd recommend finding a seat then ordering as seats were limited. The venue was clean and orderly. Food - I got two tacos and a side and found that to be enough food. I liked the Al pastor on the blue corn tortillas. The suadero taco wasn't the best I've had, and I wished I'd gotten something else. I will say that it's hard to find frijoles charros in Austin so any spot that has them gets my stamp of approval for authenticity. I hope to try them next time! The menu seemed to have plenty of vegan/vegetarian tacos as well. The service was speedy even on a busy day. There was a line when we arrived at 4pm but it moved quickly. read more

A new taco contender in Austin and Masa y Mas is solid! For a grand opening they were well organized and provided fast and kind service. It's all counter service and had a lot of seating. There was inside and outside seating. Location wise it's off South Lamar so the street is really busy and it's a quick turn so be aware of that. Parking is really tight so expect cars to be on top of each other. Food: I had 3 tacos and the chips and guac. The chips and guac was delicious. I liked the addition of sunflower seeds (I think it was sunflower) added a nice roasted crunchy ness to the guac. The guac could have used a bit more salt. The chips are freshly fried and tasty. It's dangerous if you kept eating them. I had 3 tacos and this is my ranking: the barbacoa. camarones (fried shrimp) and Al pastor. The barbacoa had chunks of meat which was great compared to a lot of times where I've had barbacoa shredded. The meat was tender and flavorful. The camarones had some many great addition pickled peppers, fried shrimp and avocados. The balance was all there. The Al pastor was probably the least of my favorites the flavor was there but the meat was on the drier side. All the tacos came on their blue corn tortilla which are all home made. The salsa they provided was a creamy red sauce and it was a great addition to all the tacos. read more
