Ate here for the first and definitely the last time today as my go to place is closed on Monday. Ordered the Sushi Bar Lunch Special - California Roll, Tuna Roll and 6 pieces of sashimi. Pros - the Miso Soup was very good as was the tuna Cons - the California Roll was mostly mayonnaise. Tasted odd. Not in a good way. The Tuna Roll was tiny - maybe a little smaller in circumference than a quarter. The Nori did not taste fresh. The salmon was average and a white fish which may have been snapper was chewy and tasted like bad rubber. Honestly some of the worst sushi I've ever had. Save your tastebuds and go down the street to Sumo. read more

Masa Sushi is a solid lunch location. The portion size is pretty sizable and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I order take out from here pretty often with my coworker. Funny enough, we go here sometimes 3 or 4 times a week because my coworker loves this place so much (I'm debating on staging an intervention for him). Food wise I normally order the 3 piece combo with teriyaki steak, California roll and sushi. If I'm not ordering during lunch time I like getting katsu don (although I haven't ordered it in awhile so I need to double check if its on the menu still). I'm giving Masa only 3 stars because they do occasionally get my take out order wrong (I don't really mind all that much) and I don't necessarily crave their food. Don't get me wrong, I can eat their food all day everyday if its in front of me, but I don't think I ever go out of my way to dine here. I also might be going here often because I work with their number 1 fan, so who knows. Regardless, if you're in town for a couple days, I say try it, but only if you're in Camarillo for an extended period of time. read more

Masa is one of the best sushi spots in the area for a quick and delicious meal. Their lunch specials are such a bang for your buck. The bento box meal also comes with a miso soup and 3 options. Sushi rolls are reasonably priced and very fresh. Service here is a hit or miss to be honest. A few times waiters can be very on top of service other times they can be very quiet and not check in on customers to often. The restaurant has great outdoor seating which is a great option since the inside can be a bit small. It's a great location! read more

Good lunch! Fresh food, dining al fresco is always the best! Our waiter told us it was his first day on the job. He was informed, attentive and friendly. We had garlic edamame, rainbow roll and California roll. All were well prepared and delicious. It's on the pricier end for sushi but there's a reason. The fish is pretty high quality and the rolls are great. Size of rolls is perfect. Not too big but not tiny either. I also have no complaints when it comes to service. Just be weary of busy days. The space inside is really really tight. And when you're seated outside you might be amongst the groups of people waiting for a table. It can definitely get hectic when it's busy but on quiet days it's great. read more

I was amazed during this time, how efficient this restaurant ran. Niki was answering the phone, taking orders, greeting guests and taking orders !! Chris along with Jen were hustling too!! I couldn't see how many chefs were working but this place runs like a well oiled machine . I saw 15 takeout orders come through between walk ins, phone orders and Uber eats people . After making a trip up to Solvang, my friend and I stopped by here for dinner around 8pm. We both had our fair share of wine tasting prior and were more than ready for dinner. As soon as we entered, the ambience appeared quiet with only about two other tables taken (Wednesday night). As soon as we sat, we ordered hot green tea and water and were given the menu/a paper to mark our orders (was not used). We ordered the toro nigiri, sake nigiri, hamachi carpaccio, amberjack carpaccio, hotate, and cucumber wrap roll. They were out of uni. The hamachi came dressed with jalapeño and ponzu. It had a big kick with a strong citrus saltiness throughout. It was pretty good but a little overbearing for the fish. The jalapeño on it was very spicy, so we had to take them out of a few. The amberjack carpaccio came over a Saran wrapped plate of ice and carefully placed in a circle and topped with grounded black pepper. Taste was simple but was favored over the hamachi. With the black pepper, we could appreciate the taste of the amberjack. The hotate was thickly sliced with an unusually soft texture and bland taste. There was no sweetness to it. It didn't taste good, and neither of us wanted a second bite of it. The sake nigiri and toro nigiri were cut generously; however, the taste/texture/temperature wasn't quite there. Presentation has garnishes so a bit beyond some other locations. They unfortunately ran out of uni nigiri so we couldn't try that. The cucumber wrap roll was disappoint. They were loosely wrapped with varying sizes of thick and thin slices of cucumber. Inside felt like leftover cuts of salmon, tuna, yellowtail, and cucumber. There was also a disappointing orange imitation crab mix. This was topped with generous (maybe too much) amounts of tobiko. They also started us off with fried tofu covered in almond slices. The green tea came in a glass mug with a handle, so easy to use. The taste was okay. Service was good. Entering/leaving, we were greeted by the sushi chefs. The two waitresses were kind, smiled, and accommodating. The food came out promptly and properly paced. Overall, it was an okay place for dinner considering it was a Wednesday night and an impromptu dinner stop on our coastal road trip. I doubt that I would come back here though. read more

Since then, the quality of the fish has improved immensely, and I usually order the chirashi bowl to go. I recommend going for the lunch special if you can get away during the week. I have been coming to Masa for years. I'm not sure what happened, but it has gone down hill. I went for lunch with my baby yesterday. Yes, mothers with babies get sushi too. He's not ready for a high chair, so he sits in his car seat in his stroller. I came into the restaurant and there were two tables taken. I went to sit at a table that would fit his stroller perfectly and was told I needed to sit at a smaller table. The smaller table would result in his stroller blocking the aisle, and the other one had him parked alongside the sushi bar. I accommodated, and sat awkwardly at the table so I could still have access to the things I need from the stroller. I was asked what I want to drink and I ordered a water and a Diet Coke. I was asked "a water AND a Diet Coke?" Yepp...both...that's..why I ordered it... I looked at the menu and realized I should have just gone to Eggs n Things as I already was clearly not welcome. I really wanted sushi so I ordered the lunch combo, just ordered to-go instead of sitting and having a lunch with my baby like I planned. I got the chicken teriyaki and California roll. I sat there for 30 minutes, my little one started getting fussy, so I stand up to roll him around. I also thought I should get an extra rice for him to take home as he loves rice. I ask the waiter for an extra side of yes. "It already comes with rice." Yes...I know... an extra side please... food wise, the sushi is always fantastic . This place has been here forever and it's always good when we go. I try to get something different each time but my nephews go mainly for Y2K roll and the sashimi because it's fresh. I got the cucumber wrap roll this time and it was good. The only thing about this place is the space, it's small. Not good for big parties but if you're willing to squeeze in then you should be fine. We came here for a 2nd time and our experience has guaranteed there will not be a 3rd time. The service itself is good however I witnessed the sushi chef working in the middle tonight proceed to lick something on his finger and the go right on making rolls. For a place largely dealing in uncooked food I couldn't believe it. It was on the warm and muggy side in the restaurant- not unbearable but again a warm place with raw fish isn't an appealing thought. I also ordered water and the water was so chemical tasting I ordered a soda for the 1st time in years just to have something to drink. Lastly and least importantly- they also use styrofoam containers which is unfortunate. Overall would absolutely cannot recommend this place. read more

The rolls from Masa were so yummy! I had trouble picking which rolls I wanted at first because they have SO MANY OPTIONS! We ended up getting the H.O.T. Roll, snow roll, and the crunch roll. They all tasted so good but I'd have to say the H.O.T. Roll was my fave! It was a little hard to eat cause the pieces were so big but there was so much flavor! The presentation was pretty good even though we have to get takeout. We ordered in person but you can order ahead and pickup. Not a great sushi place. We're new to the area and saw this had great reviews so we decided to give it a try. We got the Baked Salmon roll, Camarillo roll and shrimp tempura. The baked salmon roll was done well, but the other two not so much. The Camarillo roll included baked eel, but we found SEVERAL bones in the roll ( I understand a few but the amount we found was insane). The shrimp tempura roll had the smallest amount of shrimp, not even worth it. The service was pretty slow after we placed our order, ( but we were checked on off before) with no water refills. I love coming to Masa. This is one of my go to sushi spots in Camarillo. The quality of their dishes and service are for the most part consistent so I know what I'm walking into. I'm pretty much a regular here so I have my favorites that I'll have to get everytime : Tropical roll - California roll topped with cubed fish, tomatoes, oranges (although I loved it better when they use to serve it with mangos) onions and tossed with a light but creamy sauce. I have lived across the street from Masa for about a year and yet to give it a chance... until today. When I arrived it was crazy busy. Usually a restaurant this busy I turn around and walk out the door. But today I waited which to my surprise only waited about 5 minutes which they graciously sat me at the sushi bar. Greeted with a wonderful amuse bouche I was taken care of by Allison. Through her mask was a warm smile and one of the most pleasant spirits throughout service. Went here a few months ago and unfortunately was served bad fish. I ordered a traditional roll and when it was given to me it emitted a rotten smell. I told the owner/server that the fish was bad, he took it, smelled it, and then had the sushi chef throw away the batch of mixture that went into that particular roll which tells me that they don't check it for freshness. The owner was nice about it and offered to make another one and comped it but still sucks to be served rotten fish. Not the way I want to go out... I've ordered Masa every week or every other week for the last 5 years. Recently the last year or so, my wife and I have had endless bad experiences. They cut their rolls way too big, so we always have to ask them to cut them small, 50% of the time they listen. When you ask for spicy crab inside, they fulfill that request 25% of the time. And most frustrating and disappointing is their Tuna, the spicy tuna always has lines of skin in it... just gross. Their fresh tuna has constantly had a crunchy texture and tastes extremely fishy 90% of the time. So, the other day was my last order. I don't care if we have to drive an hour to eat sushi. This place just drops the ball too much.. too bad. read more

Will NEVER visit this place again. The positive is the servers were friendly and attentive. Now for the negative... Ordered a Sprite and it was carbonated water with just the essence of Sprite syrup. The sushi chef named Young was not very personable and not a very skilled sushi chef. I ordered the sushi rolls according to the number given (#7 & #16) on the menu and the chef replied that he didn't know what numbers the rolls were (then why number the rolls?) so I told him Lumbar Roll & Great Jeff Roll. The tuna on the Great Jeff roll was not very tender and seemed like a cheap cut of tuna. The second roll which was the Lumbar Roll was not cut all the way through so I had to separate the pieces myself with my chopsticks and bare hands. Not a pleasant overall experience for a first timer...and last timer. read more

Although they initially forgot to serve us our miso soup, service was fast and friendly. Calamari legs were large, but not worth the 16.99 price tag. While not out of this world in the taste department, our rolls were plated nicely, and were fresh and plentiful . We ordered the Omega 3 roll, Spider Roll, and Y2K roll.
