This was an amazing halal Chinese meal at Ma's House. We loved everything and the service was great. Food was served quickly and hot. The restaurant is bright and all the tables are set for larger crowds with 8 seats though there are booths for smaller groups. We started with the Chicken corn soup and beef dumplings. The main course was walnut shrimp and black pepper chicken. We also got the chicken chow mein noodles and the 3 flavor fried rice. Nothing was too spicy and the flavors were delicious. Check them out for halal Chinese food in Houston.

This place is so beautiful when you walk in with high ceilings and nice tables. I'm surprised to find such a fancy place in Chinatown next to Duang Huang plaza. The nice thing is they have their own parking lot, so you don't have to mingle with and the people scrambling to go to DH. They have a diverse menu from chicken, pork, fish and vegetarian options plus dim sum. We ordered the chive beef rolls, orange chicken, crispy duck and mixed seasonal vegetables. We found it funny the waiter didn't know what kind of vegetables were in the seasonal. The food portions are huge and we had a lot of leftovers. Everything tasted amazing and fresh. I wasn't as big of a fan of the beef roll but it didn't taste bad. My favorite was the crispy duck. It's not like peking duck, more like the crispy pork you get ag bbq places. The downside is they do charge for rice - 0.95 cent per bowl but you can get away with ordering just 1 for 1 people. Prices are a little high for Chinatown, but given the portion sizes not too bad. Service is fine. Polite but not too intrusive. Refilled our water s few times. Love the food and the ambiance. I want to come back and try some more dishes.

Slept on Chinese halal restaurant that's huge and right next to the plaza that's always busy. Honestly I think my group just ordered the wrong things that weren't Chinese halal specialties (ie lamb). We got standard Chinese dishes that are passing but definitely not as well made as other Chinese restaurants. I heard their version of scallion pancakes is a specialty, and each one was huge! Definitely a highlight. I hope to be back soon to try some of the specialty halal dishes.

My first impression of Ma's House is that it is huge and nicely decorated. I'm at a group of nine and they accommodated us easily at a round lazy Susan table. They were patient with the orders and took time to explain everything. Everybody was super friendly. We ordered eight or nine things and everything was truly fantastic. From the crispy chive sesame bread to the filet mignon dish. I was also excited to see hand cut thick noodles. Those are my favorite and I had been missing those from Chinatown. The Mongolian steak and pepper steak was excellent as well as some of the chicken dishes we got. Everything was delicious It's great to have such a big clean, organized and high quality Chinese halal police in the hotspot of Bellaire and beltway 8. Definitely coming back here and catering from here. That bread was amazing. All around awesome place

The staff is welcoming and efficient. The restaurant has plenty of room to accommodate big families. The lunch menu was pretty good, except Ma's short ribs. They were very flavorful, but chewy. A lunch plate comes with a nice corn soup with little chicken bits and an eggroll. The sole with asparagus was tender and we'll be ordering that again! The eggrolls were a bit mushy inside. The chicken with cashews was good. We'll be bringing friends to share more dishes!

I've tried the original in Anaheim and really enjoyed it, so I was delighted when I first heard it had come to Houston! I decided to give it some time before trying it so it could work out any kinks they might have, which are inevitable when opening a new shop. We finally tried it this week, and it wasn't quite like the original. Let's start with how large this place is! It's massive which is great because you don't have to worry about wait times. The folks who work here are incredibly sweet, patient, and helpful. They helped us select dishes and waited until we figured it out! There was so much to choose from. Their servings are also large, so you'll have leftovers which is always a nice perk! The food was where it just didn't meet the mark. Everything was just bland. My husband did comment that maybe that's how authentic food should taste, and we are conditioned to American Chinese that is much more salty? I'm not entirely sure if that's why we found it bland, but it's a thought! We ordered the garlic and jalepeno beef, the dough/hand pulled noodles chicken chow mein, pan fried beef dumplings and the thin bread with green onions. The bread with green onions is SUCH a large helping- 16 pieces! The dumplings were... my husband enjoyed them but I hated how it was a giant chunk of beef wrapped in the dumpling. Not much else going on seasoning or flavor wise. The noodles were better once I added soy sauce and Chili oil. And the beef was not spicy, but again serviceable with a bit of chili oil and soy. All in all, we'd come back to give it another try given some time. It wasn't bad but it was also nothing to write home about.

Went to @mashousechinesehalal, New halal chinese spot in town. I have heard a lot of positives about the original location in LA, so definitely had to give it a try. I went with the Filet Mignon Black Pepper Sauce off the lunch menu, which comes with a veggie spring roll and the soup of the day, which was Chicken Corn Soup. and also ordered the Steamed Beef Dumplings. The meal also comes with complimentary tea. First off the the Filet Mignon was amazing, so tender and juicy. overall a great portion size for a lunch special. And for the Steamed Beef Dumplings which were great aswell, Soft dumpling exterior and the juicy flavor beef inside. Overall this place is great and definitely worth the hype.

BUMMED. This place has room for improvement, and seeing as it just opened...I think it has the potential to turn itself around to be close to the OG Ma's Islamic Chinese in Anaheim. The place / ambiance is PHENOMENAL and if that's all the matters to you -- then GO FOR IT! It has its own semi-spacious parking lot (though I do see this being a battle during peak hours). The SERVICE, on the other hand, could use a lot of work. We were being helped by Lucy, and she seemed aloof from the get go. My husband was giving our order, and her mind seemed to be focused on the server taking another parties order next to our table. YIKES. She even apologized after noticing our dismay. She forgot to get our drink order, didn't bring us our water, and we had to ask another server to go grab her after 10-12 minutes. I think we saw her maybe 2-3 times in total for our entire dinner there. Ma's -- there needs to be better staff training. If this was the service when half the restaurant was empty - I can only imagine what it is like when it's a full house. On to the food, ARGH. THIS ONE GETS TO ME THE MOST. Our order was: 1. Orange Chicken (medium spice) 5/5 this one was the one dish that was completed in its entirety! Crispy and absolutely delicious! 2. Sizzling Black Pepper Beef -- came out SIZZLING, yet bland. I'm not too sure where the flavor got lost, but this wasn't it fam. 3. Steamed Rice. 4. Chicken Chow Mein. This one was good for the kids. The chicken wasn't too overpowering and the noodles were not rubbery. 5. Chicken & Creamy Corn Soup. I was expecting this to be piping hot, but it was on the colder side. I actually ended up taking this back to the hotel room and warming it up myself. Tasted better! I personally like mixing this with vinegar, chili oil, and a little bit of soy sauce for ultimate flavor. Overall, 3 / 5. Lots of potential, but just needs time. I hope to make a pit stop next time I'm in HTX, at least for the orange chicken.

A new Halal Chinese food in this area of Chinatown, and it is not Uyghur Chinese food bit traditional Chinese food that is also Halal, they have great lunch special here. The service is fast here and the food is pretty good too. The restaurant is a little bit big for the amount of customers they have so far so it may feel a bit empty. Come and check out this place and even if you do not eat strictly Halal.

We arrived at 745 on a weekday and this place was packed. The food was great but in a huge restaurant the management needs to keep more than 2 waiters. The two poor waitstaff were overwhelmed and we waited an hour for food because they were tending to 70 plus customers. The scallion pancakes were delicious. Management do better with supporting your staff.

I had an opportunity to try Ma's House during grand opening. Was overwhelmed with the amount of options on the menu. Thankfully was not disappointed on the result of deliveries. The food was flavorful and authentic. The staff were super busy and only came over to the table when called upon. The restaurant was giving a friendly family style vibe. Definitely a solid spot for Chinese food.

Amazing amazing amazing! As someone who lived in Asia and experienced a ton of Halal Chinese foods, I am at a loss for words! This was authentic, tasty and fulfilling to the point to where I had leftovers for the next days lunch. The quality of the meat is bar non and you can taste it I every bite. Overall I give this new restaurant a 5/5 for everything including quality of food, ambience, and service! I highly recommend it. The Sizzling Black Pepper Beef was melt in your mouth awesomeness!

5 Stars - Authentic Szechuan that absolutely nails the classics…read more During our short trip to Houston, as a custom, we were determined to find real Szechuan food, and luckily we found Hu's Kitchen. The location is a bit unassuming, and parking is definitely tough (the spaces are very shallow), but the second we walked through the doors and smelled the Szechuan peppercorns, I knew we were in exactly the right place. I generally judge a Szechuan restaurant by their 夫妻肺片 (Fuqi Feipian)--which they cleverly name "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" on the menu. They completely nailed it. The beef, tripe, and tendon were incredibly cohesive together, yet you could tell each component was prepared and marinated in a slightly different way to perfectly highlight its specific texture. The chili oil was right on the spot. We went through a massive bowl of rice just eating this dish alone. Honestly, if I weren't feeding a family of four, I could have just ordered that and been perfectly happy. While the Fuqi Feipian proves their skill with dry dishes, the 水煮魚片 (Fish in Szechuan Hot Chili Oil) proves their skill with wet ones. It's another must-order. The execution was flawless--we didn't just finish the tender fish chunks, we ate every last piece of cabbage soaked in that incredible chili broth. For my two daughters who can't handle the heat, we ordered the fried rice, garlic pork ribs with onion, and the 紅燒獅子頭 (Giant Meatball with Cabbage). The giant meatball was spectacular. The kids completely devoured it on their own, but I managed to steal a bite, and it instantly brought back childhood memories of exactly how this dish is supposed to taste. We also had the Dan Dan Noodles, which were great and rounded out the meal perfectly. I loved all of the dishes we tried. Should we ever find ourselves in Houston again, we will absolutely be revisiting this hidden gem.

No complaints here since we were starving from an 8 hour road trip. The Dan Dan Noodles...I had high expectations but sadly this dish fell short. I recommend Hu's Cooking to use a bigger bowl and more sauce because it was difficult to mix the noodles and the sauce wasn't...saucing, unfortunately. I wish there was more flavor in this dish. The Scallion Pancake was super over-fried and oily. See image in my review. The outer parts of the pancake were fried to a crisp and only a small circumference in the center stayed chewy. I know Chinese tends to be oily but this pancake soaked up way too much oil. Half a Peking duck: super great price for so much meat. The difficulty when eating this dish is gnawing the meat off the sharp bones of the duck. Mapo Tofu with white rice: pretty easy staple, no complaints here. Dinner on a Saturday was packed but we got seated quickly and food arrived fast.

Dry Fried Green Beans 5/5- these are the best green beans I have had in my life! I am not exaggerating like I will be thinking about these green beans all week. Do not hesitate to try these. Perfectly salty and good amount of crunch still left. The flavors they used are just perfect. Colorful Beef 4/5- The texture of the beef was so tender and not chewy at all like other places. The flavor was bright and the bell peppers were cooked through well. The issue I had with this dish was the sichuan peppercorns. I was just eating and not really looking at it super closely so I got a mouth full of these peppercorns and wow it was actually horrible. Just beware because the texture of these things are god awful and I think that they should be taken out like how a bay leaf is removed before serving. It was just really intense and it almost ruined the dish for me honestly. Other than that a great dish. My mouth was so numb but worth it. Dandan noodles 2/5- This was my first time trying this dish anywhere and I did not really enjoy it at all. The sesame flavor was really strong and it wasn't really salted at all. Very strange flavor. I will not order this again, however I do believe that the execution on this dish is great. There was a lot of sauce and the noodles were cooked well. I just really wish I liked the flavor of this dish and that's a personal problem. This dish also made my mouth numb but the flavor did not make it worth it. I wanted to like these so badly but I just couldn't do it. I will be back!
