We ordered a whole table of skewers ranging from the classic lamb skewers to chicken wings and organs as well as smoked veggies. A woman, possibly the manager, told us we couldn't sit at a larger table and asked us to move to a corner, even though there were no other large parties. She explained it in a strict and unfriendly way, showing little flexibility. When we received the bill, an automatic 18% tip for 6 people was added without informing us, and there was no notice about this on the menu. She later adjusted the tip after we questioned it, but when my friend left less than 18%, she threw the check back and said it wasn't enough, pressuring us to tip more. We came on a Saturday around 730pm and it was pretty packed. There was one spot in the corner for two that faced a wall. We were pointed to this spot and despite thinking we might be forgotten, service was smooth and friendly. We started with some beef, tendon, lamb, and squid skewers and added a big plate chicken. The flavor on the skewers is phenomenal with cumin, pepper and other spices. Tender and juicy meat cooked to perfection. The chicken was flavorful and the potatoes and noodles were savory and packed with herbs. The star anise and full peppercorns along with bay leaves and other spices made the entire dish very good and intense with flavor. Depending on your range of tolerable spice it could be considered mild to medium spicy. Service was excellent with water refreshed often and food coming quickly. Took a bit for the order to be taken but it was also a packed house. Lots of people ordered containers of beer to share at the table but we opted not to. The chicken skewers (not pictured) were delicious - slow cooked over a charcoal grill, very juicy, and flavorful. The lamb and shrimp skewers were also very good, although I likely wouldn't order the shrimp again as it was messy when removing the shells. The Chinese chives were over-cooked and over-seasoned; I wouldn't order this again. The best dish was the stir fried noodles with pork and sliced peppers; I would order this over and over again! This place came highly recommended by my brother so I had to try it out while in town. It's right by my favorite banh mi shop, but I never knew it existed. Unassuming exterior and can be easily overlooked if you weren't looking for it. The name is partially in Chinese characters so just look for the word "BBQ." The interior is small and intimate with cool murals on the wall. We were greeted and guided to seat ourselves. I was instructed to get the lamb skewers and to not even look at the beef skewers, both being top sellers, but the beef tends to be dry here. The lamb was generously flavored with a cumin forward seasoning. Don't take your time with these. They are best eaten right away. The lamb is lean and juicy with some fatty pieces for the perfect balance. If you get the tendon, be prepared for different textural bites. Some are hard and chewy while others are soft and gelatinous. Veggie side dishes are great! I am a new lover of the smashed cucumbers. It's a refreshing, cool pairing to the grilled meats. The stir fried garlic on cai is another delicious side dish. Also known as water spinach, it's one of my favorite Asian greens since I was a child. I also ordered the spicy fish filet which are fried fish cutlets served in a bowl of chili oil. I ate a couple of pieces and thought it would be great eaten with rice, which I was skipping that day.
