If you are like me, then you should prefer the thrill of being able to (or at least trying to) cook above the standard that you can find in restaurants; especially that certain satisfaction you obtain from being hungover and belting out that perfect fry-up. Okay it's not the classiest of foods or the hardest to cook, but when you're hungover what else can you do? Unfortunately for me, the affable "greasy-spoon" Mary's has managed to trump me and most other "greasy-spoons" on our fry-up skills; and I don't really mind!
Own by a rather cheery and gentile couple, Mary's breakfast range offers you a selection of food from bangers, to bubble, to hash browns (or chips if you please) all cooked to perfection with free tea and toast on the side. But what why especially appreciate the greasy-spoon, is because the breakfasts are full-on; no having to order an extra egg because your breakfast has beans instead. A veggie breakfast contains, for example: one egg, bubble, mushrooms, beans (variable), tomatoes, toast, and a cup of tea or coffee, which elsewhere (for some reason) it seems to be a rarity to find a set breakfast that is this plentiful (in every sense of the word).
The décor however is a lot to be desired; and I find the big screen TV a little uncomfortable whilst I'm trying to eat. This definitely isn't the kind of place I would usually choose to eat out in, but I think sometimes it's okay to break from the norm, and when the food is actually cooked to a high standard then it's more than okay! So, if you happen to be on Camberwell Road with the post booze blues, definitely pop your head into Mary's. read more
