Crispin has a fantastic selection of coffees and their breakfast is a solid deal. I'm surprised there aren't more people here because this is a very familiar concept to the combination cafe/bakeries in San Francisco.
I had the filtered coffee, the scrambled eggs, and a cortado.
Their beans are from assembly and they execute their roasts almost perfectly. The filtered coffee had no bitter or dishwashey notes that usually come with filtering lighter roasts. Despite the brightness and acidity, it had a rich, well rounded body.
Their cortado reminds me of the Gibraltars(technically the same thing) I can get at home. Cortados in London usually seem to be made differently and end up usually being closer to a cappuccino(more watery/milky) or a flat white(more foamy). With good cortados, there might be a slight caramelization of the milk which result in notes of bergamot and currant. This one ended up being extremely similar to a cortado made in San Francisco's ritual coffee using their sweet tooth espresso.
The scrambled eggs were well executed. If you've watched those videos by Gordon Ramsey, you'd know that Crispin achieves a peak scrambled egg(on sourdough toast).
It was surprisingly well plated for a humble dish(that's 6 pounds). I would come here everyday especially since i can eat, drink coffee, and also get some work done in the same sitting(which is rare for nicer cafes).
Crispins is certainly a well polished experience or at least during the daytime anyways. read more
