Food was average, do not order coffee - dreadful filter. They brought the dish with specific ingredients not taken out (red chillis) and they waitresses took a long time to check if customers were happy that I got my dish replaced after 15 mins of waiting. Desperately to get another coffee elsewhere, we had to wait longer for the receipt that customers next to our table left without ordering. It's right across from that Notting Hills bookstore where you will find all the tourists gathered there. Mike's Café is a great place for breakfast - I mean very traditional English breakfast... eggs, sausages/ham, bread (and more bread), maybe a little bit of tomato and mushroom. And that's about it. When I asked if I can have salads or green veggies, the waitress told me its salads and leaves are for decoration. But she was nice enough to bring me a small bowl of lettuce. I really appreciate that. London people may appear serious and sometime stiff, but they are actually very kind and thoughtful. read more

Great spot for a hearty breakfast on the weekend. We luckily snagged the last table and did not have to wait in line. They have a couple of tables outside so you can people watch and enjoy the weather...when it isn't raining. Staff is friendly and efficient. Portions were huge too. We tried the Special which included eggs, bacon, sausage, and toast as well as a ham, cheese, and mushroom omelette. We also ordered the hash browns and some fresh squeezed orange juice. A simple straightforward neighbourhood cafe/diner with very reasonable rates. Wish we had one of these closer to home. They serve breakfast through the day. But unfortunately the items with poached eggs are served only until noon. So we couldn't try the eggs Benedict or the very interesting combination of poached eggs and truffles. I had the liver and bacon with mash and gravy which was quite good. He had the 3 omelette egg with mushroom and blue cheese which was also good. The grilled halloumi skewers were a bit of a disappointment. They were so lightly grilled that the cheese was still cold and halloumi tastes best when its hot. The coffee was excellent, as was the service. I very happily toasted one of the free marshmallows on the low fire on my way out. Delicious! read more

An amazing spot for Sunday brunch! The English Breakfast included everything I wanted and there are fantastic vegetarian options as well. The service here was also amazing. We were quickly seated by the staff and were checked upon during our meal. Mr. Mike himself was at the restaurant greeting customers as well. I came here for brunch on a Sunday afternoon. It also crowded but I got seated immediately. I had the Big Boy breakfast combo. You get to pick six items off the breakfast menu, and it comes with an orange juice, coffee or tea for £9.95. I think it as incredibly reasonable for the neighborhood. The service was also good. It was a great place to be after spending the majority of the day shopping at Portobello Road market. I highly recommend this place for brunch. I stopped in here on a rainy afternoon as I hadn't eaten breakfast yet and found this place on yelp. I don't eat meat normally and the meat portion of an English breakfast will go to waste on me. However this place allows you to build your own breakfast from one item at £2.10 to six items at £7.70. The service was friendly, and quick. It was very cozy as there was a working fireplace in the dining room. It was decorated with exposed brick and toile wallpaper. I sat next to the window so that I could people watch. Anywhere that you can buy a burger the size of your head wins my vote! Mike's Cafe is one of my first choices to grab a bite to eat when I am wandering round Portobello Market. It is SO cheap and the portions are SO huge it would be a crime not to eat there!!! I love the burger (I think it's called the NY burger?) that has a burger pattie, cheese, bacon and fried egg in it and comes with a mountain of yummy chunky chips. Last time, as hard as I tried, I could only eat half of my burger because it was just too huge....in fact the first time I went there with a friend and we both ordered this gargantuan meal, the waiter raised his eyebrow and with a cheeky grin asked 'are you sure you can handle the NY burger??' We scoffed, knowing how much we love to eat and knowing how hungry we were....uh, not knowing the amount of food we were going to receive... :) Anyway, YUMMMMMMMY!!!! They also do delicious American diner style milkshakes here. Yipppeee! Oh, and the breakfasts are huuuuuuuuge too! You can choose something off the menu or you can create your own breakfast. There is plenty of choice for meat eaters' breakfasts + a monster breaky plate with everything. The jacket potatoes are super yum. The roast and the pasta portions are gigantic. The tea is delicious, the sammiches look scrumptious- havent tried them yet- waiting for next time. The interior is simple. Normally it's very busy so you have to wait till a table is free- it is incredibly popular. Mike's off Portobello road is horrid. On the surface, things seem... good: brilliant location, cute inside, little booths and classy menus. But it stops there, suddenly, abruptly. The service is bad. Just, BAD. Grumpy waitresses lurking around, unsmiling, unwelcoming, banging food on tables, rolling eyes. We felt afraid to ask for anything. The creepy cook comes out every now again, looking around, pacing, sitting. Back and forth - kitchen, outside, kitchen, outside, looking. Weird shit. And the food - here's the breakdown: I got the chicken salad sandwich - pieces of brown, veiny chicken meat thrown between two pieces of floppy white bread with chopped lettuce and some onion. That was... it. No mayonnaise. It was literally, a 'chicken salad sandwich.' Also the greek salad (which they forgot, after 20 minutes I had to remind one of the waitresses who replied "oh. It wasn't -ME- who took your order"): A plate with a blob of Tesco hummus, Tesco feta cheese bricks, Tesco pita bits and slices of tomato and cucumber that tasted like butane gas. My mom got the English breakfast. The bacon/ham-like meat was soaking in grease and salt. The egg floating in gelatinous rubber-like fluid. Cheep sausage, just the stuff you'd buy from the store in a box and fry up at home. Toast saturated in butter. Beans ok, coffee ok although not once was it topped up. Bland, uninspired vomit. And, would you know it? There's a Tesco across the street!!! It boggles the mind how people can make food like this, serve it, and take your money. We did it! We found the best brunch place!!! Even at the busiest hour in Saturday morning we were served RAPIDLY and when we were finished with our food the plates disappeared as quickly as they came. Our coffees were the best Ive had, strong and short. Food was huge and delicious. Brown sauce was not HP and was delicious. Freshly squeezed OJ. 3.5/5 - First visit: I went to Mike's for breakfast after wandering around the area for ages looking for somewhere that didn't have "Notting Hill" prices. Mike's still isn't greasy spoon cheap, but it's the most reasonable place in the area that was open that morning. I created my own vegetarian breakfast, with toast, beans, eggs and chips. It was all tasty and the portions were huge. My only complaint is I wish they had a veggie sausage, and a proper veggie breakfast (i.e. including mushrooms and hashbrowns and at a lower price than the build-your-own equivalent would be). There is plenty of choice for meat eaters' breakfasts, including a monstrous one that has everything on it. The service was great, the decor is decent, and the menu has tons of options for lunch if you want to go later in the day. read more

My omelet was tasty but a bit overcooked and the chips were meh. Stay away if you're on a diet, like normal portions, hate waiting in line, or tend to get claustrophobic. This is the place you go when you'd like a huge amount greasy food after a night out. It's a local favourite, cosy, and the food is decent. I've tried the benedict and florentine with poached eggs. The poached eggs are often a bit weird, the egg white too firm. I suspect that the poached eggs are made in some kind of apple slice pan. The chef tends to drown the bread in hollandaise sauce so I suggest asking him to go easy on the sauce. All in all, the place is ok and decent, but in no way extraordinary. It's more the place you visit to afterwards tell your local friends 'ya, I was at Mike's last weekend'. read more

I would try the Big Boy for a variety and option not to mention large quantity for first-timers! Try the black pudding, bacon, potato. Also, be careful the waiters can get your orders wrong if you have a large party. But I did not mind, so I did not bring it up.
