    Eggs Royale, Cafe Continente stylee

Cafe Continente is a restaurant and all day breakfast place with 4 star potential but currently settling on 3 stars. Housed within a pleasant airy space and fronted by an inviting green facade, amid Victorian terraces, Cafe Continente offers a familiar range of all day breakfasts and other mains. I was here for brunch, so plumped for an English breakfast and a milkshake. My girlfriend opted for Eggs Benedict and a smoothie. The service was confused and rather less flexible than I would have liked. I asked if I could have two slices of French toast with my breakfast rather than the four slices a standalone French toast serving came with. Not possible, which given how accommodating many brunch places are becoming (Balans in particular), annoyed me. My breakfast was pretty average, with the sausage noticeably lower quality than the competition in this price range (£7). Not too bad, but not great. The milkshake was also average, with little flavour making up for the lack of ice cream. My girlfriend's Eggs Benedict however was considerably better. The atmosphere is pretty chilled out, with a world music (think Enigma) soundtrack. We stayed for a while after finishing - despite its occasional culinary imperfections this is one of the more welcoming places in the area. Overall - the atmosphere and some of the food (Eggs Benedict in particular) hint towards a possible 4 star world for Cafe Continente. For now though, it's 3 stars - A-OK.

Great breakfast close to the underground station & good prices. The owner or manager wasn't too friendly with his staff or welcoming. Our waiter was really good & we ordered the transitional English breakfast.

I had a full vegetarian breakfast and flat white. Delicious! I think this will last me the whole day. (:

Quality of food was not too bad, but the quantity of salmon that I would expect from paying £6.95 for the Eggs Royale (basically eggs Benedict with smoked salmon) was pathetic. Just a slim slice. Disappointing, considering what I was expecting. Otherwise, good tea selection.

No nonsense, cheap breakfast and the occasional good chorizo soup. A mainstay for us locals. Busy, yet relaxed.

So when we visited in 2024, the parental units said "We found our fave F&C place, Balans." So me & the boy went one night for dinner. About have full and we were seated right away & a server was with us in a few minutes, his name was David. Wow, what a fantastic person! He was charming, around when needed and I feel I cannot say enough good things about him. Onto the meal, I had the F&C (ofc) and the boy had the roast chicken. The PU's were not wrong, literally the best F&C I have had in a very long time! The alcohol prices were better than the local pubs & the ambiance here is out of this world, just beautiful! Do yourself a favor & eat here.

Battered like it owed someone money. Crisp on the outside, flaky in the middle, seasoned right. Chips were chunky, like they should be, not those little frozen fries that taste like sadness. Mushy peas weren't shy either. Tartar sauce had enough punch to remind you you're in Britain, not on a cruise ship. My bruv was with me, the one who's always got it all figured out. While I was neck-deep in cod and joy, he's sat there with a pot of tea and a steak omelette like some kind of Soho aristocrat. Didn't say a word, just nodded at the first bite. Man knows what he's doing. Service was sharp. Our waitress had that no-nonsense, bit-of-a-tease energy. Proper London. Never hovered, didn't push us out, and no fuss about the tip. Let us eat, drink, breathe, and get our bearings. We sat outside, under the red umbrella. Sun peeking through the trees. Locals walking their dogs, tourists trying to look like they belong. Great crowd. Better view. Felt like I was back, in all the best ways.
