I would not recommend Mary's Center for dental services, specifically due to the inefficiency and disorganization of their office and scheduling agents. Over a three-week period, from November 13th until today, December 4th (the day of my appointment), I made several attempts--over three separate phone calls--to confirm whether I'd be receiving a cleaning and whether my insurance was accepted. Shockingly, their staff was unable to provide clear answers or even demonstrate a basic understanding of the services their office provides. On the day of my appointment, I had no choice but to cancel due to their continued incompetence. The front desk and administrative team at Mary's Center created unnecessary stress and frustration, failing to perform what should be standard, straightforward tasks in a professional medical office. This experience reflects a clear lack of communication and organizational efficiency. I've since scheduled an appointment with a dentist whose administrative team knows how to do their job without hindering patient care, or delaying it. She explained the type of treatment, explained the care I needed at home and the importance of taking care of my oral health. She was polite, gently and excelent in the care she provided. From the moment i stepped into this place the girls (because they are not ladies) at the front desk were unwelcoming and robotic giving orders instead of talking to patients. I had an appt at 1230 pm today, which I confirmed twice, and when i got there they decided to push it to 230 and tried to gaslight me about it. She had a "take it or leave it" attitude, so naturally I cancelled on the spot. Not even an im sorry for the misunderstanding. No attempt to reschedule. Nothing. I have never seen anyone so bad at their job. Both of them treat patients like they are cattle. They do not care at all about patients, you are just a number here. My advise: Listen to the reviews of everyone else, do not give them a chance, and do not endorse this place. read more

I have been a patient here for years. For the last 2, the experience has been nothing but hell. I had an appointment scheduled today for a follow up after surgery and being placed on a medication that drastically changes my body.... The appointment was at 10:45 am... it's now almost 2:45 pm and still not a call.. it was a telehealth appointment. I'm so disappointed atp but it's so hard to find a good office in the area. Please do better.. for your patients sake. Update, i spoke with the complaints line who really helped. All i can say is I really hope our Doctors are ok. The past few months I have been going here to receive dental care. My experience has been excellent and I am so grateful that Mary's center accepts my dental insurance! I am not sure why there is no many negative reviews about this branch. I have been using this branch since July after the big move from west coast. So far, all staff are so nice. What I really love is that everyone is very helpful and amicable. I took my old mother in this center and the doctor took great care of her. I had to take my newborn several times at this location for emergency. Doctor Paul J. Doherty, MD, FAAP was great! He is so patient and attentive to each patient despite of his busy schedules. This place is a joke. Check this out. Trying to talk to someone you go through three different stops. Then... "You are caller number ZERO. Your expected wait time is less than two minutes". Why can't we give 0 stars? I just recently switched Primary Care Physicians. A friend of mine recommended Mary's Center so I decided to give them a try. I wish that I hadn't. Dr. Mueller is the absolute bleeding worst. Rude, condescending, rushing through the initial eval process, she didn't get my medical records from the previous doctor, they didn't complete my document for me to get my handicap placard although they called to tell me that they had & that they emailed it to me, & so much more. There was even a fire alarm that went off in the middle of the eval. We all had to leave the building in the cold. This is after 1 dang visit!!!! I'm not going back to this. I just cannot. I won't do it. I cannot do unorganized doctor's offices, chaos, & crowds. Especially in a pandemic when we're not supposed to be in large crowds still. This building has a school as well as a doctor's office. It is chaotic. Children with the extra loud shrills while screaming & crying, crowds not social distancing because there are just way too many people inside, the nurses do not deduct -5 lbs. for clothing & shoe weight for accuracy, I had to ask them if they needed a specimen because I needed to urinate & I didn't want to waste the sample, the phlebotomy lab didn't wipe off the chair before I had to sit down (because I carry my own sanitizing stuff, I did it myself), the doctor's never washed their hands they only use hand sanitizer, the stethoscope wasn't sanitized either, the doctor tried to tell me that I didn't need an allergy test after I requested it, & so much, much, much, much more. I could write a freaking book on the things I noticed wrong with this place. The best thing I can say is, "If You Read the Reviews, Use Your Own Good Judgement. Don't Go Here." But if you're dumb enough to go anyway, "Use This Place at Your Own Caution." YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!!! read more

I thought the front desk staff was very helpful and so were all the nurses that assisted us. We saw Dr. Rollins today and I thought she was highly professional and patient. She gave us a lot of face time and didn't rush us at all. We had an appointment and we were very early. I recommend being early. When we got there, there weren't very many people waiting with us. The front desk people did intake and got all our info. Then we were even seen 20 minutes before our scheduled appointment with the doctor. When we left the appointment, the waiting room was packed so be early! Free two hour parking on the surrounding streets. It's in a safe area of NW. Your GPS will get you to Ontario but the entrance is on the corner of Kalorama. Also in reference to other reviews: I don't speak a lick of Spanish and I still felt comfortable with every staff person I met. I think those reviews are really racist. read more

Mary's Center us a doctor office yet they do not want to give advice to patients. I was told in person they did not have to be to meet with me to determine if I should get a 2nd covid booster. They literally said it wasn't their job to council and consult with patients. I'm sorry but that is exactly what your job is. I offered to pay a visit fee and was again told no. Five stars for the medical providers, 0 for the bureaucracy - averages out to 2. I've been told to come pick up a referral which was "printed and ready" only to be made to stand in a corner till I was handed referrals for past appointments which I did not need. The referral department had no idea who called me, and they were too busy to deal with me. Left 40 minutes later, frustrated and empty-handed. In an other instance, I trusted the website information regarding the pharmacy hours ... Showed up, but no. The website information was wrong. The medical providers themselves are generally kind and caring. Good luck dealing with those "running" the offices though. read more

I share my experience at this clinic which is in stark contrast to the review that "if you don't have a medicaid card and speak spanish, the staff doesn't know how to help you." I am a patient at Mary's Center and I am a white, middle class woman who is not pregnant and not on Medicaid. I found the care I received there to be some of the best I have ever had, even compared to the private facilities I have visited. The nurse practitioner I saw was caring and competent. She called me at home to follow up after my visit and I was able to get in easily for follow up appointments. I now visit the dental clinic where there is incredibly up-to-date equipment and care. Yes, there were a number of Latino families in the waiting room during my initial visit, but it is all a matter of perspective - I found it comforting to be surrounded by families and a sense of community. In addition, while this clinic opened to serve the Latino community in Columbia Heights, it's mission has expanded and grown over the years and serves people of all races and backgrounds - including me. read more

I visited this office as it was on my health insurance and close to my house... I had 2 visits - an annual OBGYN exam and another visit for a cough. I was not impressed with the front desk staff, and this is clearly a clinic for pregnant women (lots of noise, confusion, and waiting and waiting and waiting.) The doctors weren't very helpful in diagnosing, but they were very generous in writing prescriptions and making referrals (their staff will help you make the appointment, if you want.) Overall I was not impressed and will not go back, but if you are low-income I think they may be able to help. read more

At first I was so excited to become a patient that is fully insured in such a way that the clinic could benefit from my receiving services and paying regular price. I am familiar with its charitable work so I was excited to support this. Unfortunately the kind of response that I have received as a patient has been a little disappointing. Refills usually take about 4 days to get approved which is sometimes too long if you are rushed and need your medicine right away. They don't fulfill them unless I elevate the request through repeated requests or even near threats to leave the clinic. I really wish it was better than this because I love their mission but every patient is important, those who pay less and those who pay more. For this reason I cannot recommend this clinic to those who may have full insurance and can pick from other places. read more

Our family have had mixed, mostly positive experiences here. We probably had high expectations after five+ years of amazing care from NYC's Institute for Family Health, a similar mixed-income community clinic model. The bar is not quite so high at Mary's Center, in our experience mostly due to issues of access, not care. The clinic is frequently very busy. The front desk staff are helpful and seem to process walk-ins into the waiting room queue in a timely fashion, but then it can be a slog. Part of the issue might be that appointment holders who are prompt (or early!) still feel like they're being being processed the same as the walk-ins. It can take a long time to get through to someone on the phone. Even mundanities like canceling appointments or requesting records (and why exactly can't children have a portal login so we don't have to waste the time of staff to get their records?) result in EPIC wait times. IF you can get someone on the phone. I've had appointment calls drop me into voicemail, with NO other choice. Big thumbs down. Our general adult care has been good so far although we've just had routine check-ups. My wife wasn't wowed by the nurse practitioner she was assigned for her intake visit. Ironically, for a clinic that promotes maternal health, she will probably look elsewhere for OB-GYN care. When I tried to get a daily prescription refilled, the drug store said they received no response to several days of faxes and phone calls. As it turned out, my assigned primary care doctor quit (within my first three months going there!) and that left my Rx in limbo. No one decided to lift a finger to do anything about it, not even a courtesy refill. (We're talking about a thyroid pill I've been taking daily for a decade, not some controlled substance.) Perhaps that's the lack of attention to detail some of the other reviewers are referring to. Our son's first well-baby visit went well; we didn't feel rushed at all -- his pediatrician was sharp and had great kid communication skills. (I sure hope she's still there next year.) Sidebar: I am disappointed that Yelp has now apparently censored Heather M.'s review. It's bull**** that a 23-review Yelper observing the socioeconomic makeup of a healthcare clinic somehow violates TOS. I would much prefer to be able to read what she said and then agree or disagree. After going to the Mary's Center on Ontario, which was closed, I came here at 6:20. I was informed they were "closed." That's some great service to the community, 6:30pm operating hours my ***. I was then told to go to MedStar for Urgent Care; thanks, I will write my council member letting him know you also feel MedStar is better. Hopefully it'll take away your city funding! read more

1st thing is first I got called up to the reception area promptly after my arrival just to be asked by the gentleman to give him a moment because he wasn't ready for me at the moment. Ok fine. He asked me for my information and verified my emergency contact which I needed to update he said ok but had me sitting there waiting to give him the information just for him to tell me ok go have a seat you'll be called back shortly. Got triaged by Iris (who is great and placed me in a room all in timely manner. PA Rocha came in introduced herself and went straight to the issue. Had an MA (Ana) come in to give me a treatment. The MA didn't introduce herself, didn't explain the procedure being done, didn't tell me the medication I was receiving, didn't come back to see if I finished the treatment 30 minutes passed and no one came back in my room. I waited patiently. as a healthcare professional there are too many simple errors to this visit. I understand when busy happens, but not checking into your patients room to let them know Hey, we're busy but we haven't forgot about you once in a blue moon is very well appreciated. I have been a patient too long. And I can say I have only have one great visit during my 27 years here. Update: I spent 1 week without my inhaler due to the fact Advair is expensive and I needed a cheaper one I called left 2 messages and no response. Called again exactly 1 week from my visit to find out a new prescription was sent over the weekend without notifying me. Talk about lack of communication smh. I CAN SAY AS A COMMUNITY CLINIC ITS TRASH. I hate this clinic terrible patient experience each time. Staff in person and over the phone are very nice, but I wish they were better communicators about how their medical services are set up. You can't book an appointment until about two months out (any earlier and their appointment books aren't open), which meant I called multiple times about having my annual obgyn appointment before I was finally able to book an appointment. However, they neglected to tell me until then that I would have to first have a general annual check up to get into their system before I could come in for an office visit for an illness or for my annual pap. Would've been really helpful to know this in advance since I'd already had my regular annual for the year. Oh well. They provide medical, dental, and mental health services. They take insurance, but for those without they operate on a sliding scale for fees based on income. I do really like their yoga classes, free on Mondays at 6:15 in the teen program room. You have to get buzzed in but they're really fast about it. The yoga classes are small so it's great for getting individual attention and hands on adjustments. They provide mats if you don't have your own. read more

I went to the dental center there and the dentist told me I had EIGHT cavities. This was my first time at Mary's Center because I just lost health insurance after turning 26. Before letting that crackpot dentist drill into eight of my teeth, I decided to just bite the bullet and get a second opinion. Went to my old dentist and paid out of pocket to find out that I had ONE cavity. F*cking ONE. Never again in my life will enter that godforsaken building unless it's to tell the dentists there they should be sued for malpractice. I'll be eating ramen for the next month after paying for my old dentist but it was goddamn worth it. Mary's Center could've seriously damaged my teeth. Bloody awful place. read more

I tried to schedule an appointment here I really needed and they couldn't have me see someone for two weeks. Okay fine. I get there and they see me and tell me the doctor will be out soon. An hour later I ask them where the doctor is, they send me upstairs to talk to their admin who tells me that the doctor that THEY scheduled an appointment with me somehow no longer works there and hasn't for months. How in the world they managed this and somehow didn't know this doctor didn't work there I have no idea. So beyond disorganized and unprofessional. read more

The staff is truly nice. My issue is communication. It's hard to get someone on the phone and when you do they can help you but so far. I've called on several occasions for two different things. The first was to set up an appointment with a nutritionist that's listed in their staff but when I would enter the first three letters of their first name, they weren't found. Did that several times, with no chance. There was no option for me to speak with anyone at reception to redirect me to the nutritionist, so every time I had to either try a few times or call again the number in the hopes of speaking with an actual person. I finally had to do a personal search of that nutritionist, found their number, called them, left a voicemail... They got to me MONTHS later when all I needed was to set an appointment as soon as possible. The second thing I've called them for is to see what I would pay through insurance and the receptionist I spoke to (finally got someone on the phone) redirected me to our insurance to find out exactly what we would pay them with that insurance. I called another dentist's office earlier who called the insurance for me and provided me with the exact information I needed. Not very satisfied with Mary's Center. read more

I don't love the crowded waiting room experience but I do really like the doctors we've seen there, Drs. I use the Mary's Center dentist after being referred by a friend who had recommended it based on its non-profit mission and dedicated leadership. I was impressed with the brand new equipment, friendly and helpful staff, and convenience to the Metro. Their technician also finally convinced me to change the way I brush: dentists have been trying to presuade me for years that I am over-brushing, but this technician finally suceeded by pointed out areas where my gums were receeding because of the over-brushing, and even correctly pointed out that I start brushing in the same place every day after noticing that my gums had receeded the most in that area. Many technicians would not take that much time to connect with a patient. I was also pleased to hear later that Mary's Center is able to pay for 2 uninsured patients for every ensured patient who visits, so when I go I feel like I am helping the community too. read more

This place is full of rude people. One nurse who takes blood is nice and Dr. Schroeder as well as Dr. Saavedra were good, but you have to go through all the rude people to get to them. And when you're sick you can't see your normal doctor - very hard to get anyone on the phone - even with the hotline they have for after hours, it was nearly impossible to get anyone to answer. I went there about four or five times total and the wait time is ridiculous. The first time I was was there, myself and a another patient were asking strongly to the front desk people why they require us to be there early or we get charged but they don't mind keeping us waiting wayyy longer than that. I was just there and it will be the last time for me and my daughter there. I am sick with a lung issue and wanted to be seen but I have PTSD about doctors ever since my bad experience giving birth overseas. They forced me to do procedures and asked me when my last menstruation was and I said that's not necessary to know in order to treat my illness today and they told me I had no choice. I started having a panic attack. The doctor told me I needed to wait and that I am overreacting and I just left. read more

I went to Mary's Center for some dental work, and I found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. My dentist was very knowledgeable, and even helped me learn some new tips on flossing techniques! I found the dental office to be very clean and the technology up-to-date, and it never once felt like it was a low-income facility (even though they do a lot of low-income assistance). The first time I went I only waited three minutes before being seen, and the second time I waited 20 minutes, so not bad either way. The only issue was that there was a long wait-list for fillings, but they were good about offering me a referral. And yes, there are a lot of Hispanic folk that go there, but if you're not a racist douchebag, it's not a problem. I highly recommend them. read more

About a year ago I lost my job and became insured under Obama Care. Initially I was thrilled to be with an patient centered provider, often leaving the office feeling listened too and on a path to find solutions to a few health problems. However after going to Mary's Center for the past year, I have grown more and more inpatient with their tactics to generate more money from my situation by requiring me to come in for unnecessary appointments and unnecessary blood work. For example I am required to come in for refill prescriptions when the prescription was only issued for 6 months rather than the norm, a year. Additionally, each of my appointments take about 2 hours to get through; the time does not fly by while waiting in the reception area, hallways, and the appointment rooms. Lastly, I have had the worst interaction with a doctor when he persisted I consider I consider pregnancy with in the next year. I look forward to the day I am able to return to a provider who does not put me through the ringer simply because I am covered under medicaid. read more

Excellent! The clinic has just been renovated and is beautiful. I take my daughters to the pediatricians there (they have 3). I was impressed with the wait time (less than 20 minutes) and with the front desk staff. I really liked the pediatrician that I saw and found them to be knowledgeable and attentive. I have private insurance but go there because it is close to our house. I would reccomend the clinic to anyone with children! read more

This review is specifically about their new double booking appointments that they've been doing as of late. We found Mary's Center last year and the first few times I was blown away by how quickly they saw us (aka at the time of the appointment), how quickly we were out of the waiting room with a newborn baby, and super impressed with the doctors. Well let me state that I'm still super impressed with the pediatric doctors (it's all I've seen). We've seen several and I think they're great. But the last three times I've been there, with appointments, I've waited over an hour in the waiting room and then waited once in the back. Today I waited an hour and 45 minutes past my appointment time. Also I love how they tell you to show up 30 minutes early, they have to be crazy if they want me to wait with my one year old child over two hours to even get into the back area during flu season. Don't make my appointment if you can't keep it! I get things can run late, but that's unacceptable. Get your act together and stop double booking. It isn't the fault of the doctors or the front staff but they have to deal with angry patients. And there were many today. read more

I would never go there again! I went to the Flower Ave location 2 weeks ago because I am here visiting from out of the Country, and a friend recommended that I go to them because it would be cheaper than trying to go to a regular doctor being that I don't have insurance. I went and explained the situation and they asked me to bring in paperwork and fill out some of theirs took a picture asked questions. Then I was told I had to go to Washington because they had no more space to see me (I wanted a checkup because I am pregnant and a sono to make sure all is okay, while I am here on visit). Went to DC today for my scheduled appt. I get there and start paperwork process all over... As if I had never done that. I was told btw in Flower Avenue that my cost would be $20. The receptionist in DC reviewed my paperwork based on pay stub (I got a job while I am here for two months to pay my stay and not be a burden) gross is $800 and this weeks will be gross about $300. So the receptionist first tells me my cost will be $45 then says no $95 then says wait and talks to her coworker they come up with $70 based on the fact that I make $1,600 gross which is not the case at all!! Clearly have no clue how to calculate. But I say fine . It was a long drive from Gaithersburg and I don't expect it to be free, I know they are a non profit and its a donation type clinic. So I pay it. Someone comes out calls me to come in asks me all these questions about my pregnancy asks me to give her two urine samples at this point who knows for what since no results were given to me for that. Then told me to sit outside again. The nurse/assistant was rude and cold. 5 minutes later the doc/midwife comes out very nice. Takes me to her office asks about questions or concerns which I had one and she answers it. Tells me to she will measure me and hear a heartbeat. Measures me with her hand not a tape measure like lost prenatal offices do and says well it seems that you are measuring about right! Right at what??? Then she takes out an old doppler tries to find a heartbeat but baby moved to much and she looks annoyed. She says well baby moves too much baby is fine and puts her doppler away and says ok then if you have any questions come to see us! (And I'm thinking and pay $70 again) then says if you want a sono I will send you to referrals so they can do it now. Takes me To referrals and I sit there for a few minutes and then another person there says you want to come tomorrow and I said no, not back to Dc can't you do it today and she says no they are gone? What the heck?? Isn't this what my appt was about when they called me to schedule they put there (supposedly) I wanted a sono so why schedule me for 4pm when they leave at 3:30?? Makes no sense!!!! So I get a referral for Silver Spring and told to go and then bring back the report so they can read it!!! you gotta be kidding me. I am to miss another day of work pay parking maybe pay $60 again to have someone analyze a sono. No I am not going to do that at all. I might as well wait until I leave the Country and go to my doctor. Rip off!!! I feel like I just took $70 out and threw them in the trash !!! 7 minute visit $70!!! The worst service ever! This clinic is fabulous. I go to the Georgia Ave clinic which is 1 block north of the Georgia Ave metro. I'm recommending this clinic because not only do the providers (I saw a fantastic MD) give attentive care that made me feel heard (I was not just rushed out the door which so often happens in other clinics), but the facilities are clean, welcoming, and did I mention that the care is excellent? I recommend this clinic to anyone (by no means is this clinic just for the underserved) and I venture to say that the medical care is better than most "for profit" private practices (at least in my experience)! read more

I needed his shot records for daycare, "oh they haven't been scanned yet" so after providing them to this location I still had to get them from his old doctor again. Today, my son has a high fever so I called (5 times) to speak to an on-call doctor or nurse. Despite having the names of several of the doctors that I've seen there directly from the text they sent to confirm the appointment, they claim that they don't have doctors there by those names and (that apparently I am not a CUSTOMER). And 1 hr later they haven't called back...we are already waiting in an ER. I guess they can't bill medicaid for phone calls. If all you need is an impersonal shot clinic then by all means Mary's Center. But if you have real insurance use it and go to a better place where you can have 1 doctor who will return calls when you have an emergency. read more
