Dr. Balfour is a careful, practiced pediatrician with years of experience and the old-school style that goes along with it. Dr. Balfour may be considered too cautious by some, and make no mistakes, he will order tests for just about everything, but he is genuinely concerned about the health and well being of his patients. His cautiousness most likely stems from the fact that he got his MD in 1950s Argentina where he had much more to worry about than sniffles and strep throat. Dr. Balfour runs a very efficient office, and I have never had to wait longer than a few minutes. He also has separate waiting rooms for contaigious patients and patients that are just there for a checkup or diagnostic, which is such a good idea that it makes me wonder why it is not standard practice in every doctor's office. My only bad experience with him involved him refusing to sign a permission slip to participate in a scuba diving class at Montgomery College when he asked if I enjoyed a certain plant of dubious legal standing, but like I said, he is old school.

They have a primary care physician assigned - Dr. Sexter - but they have at some point or another been seen by all of their physicians. Every one of them are great: kind, compassionate, attentive, and responsive. You will feel heard and they will address your concerns. Their knowledge and expertise is extraordinary. The office - staff and doctors - are also super responsive. If you have a pressing question, someone will get back to you that day. If it's an after hours emergency, there is always a doctor on call and they will respond within 30 minutes. The doctors hold daily office hours but it can be tricky to get a hold of them if they're experiencing a volume of calls. An extra perk I like is that they keep appointments available daily for those common but unplanned for illnesses, and they have a separate waiting room for sick vs not sick. It just runs so well you wonder why more doctors' offices don't do the same. Now of course, the one downside is they are out of network. It's not cheap. I think it's worth it if you can, but financially it can hurt if your kids have a lot of illnesses or shots in a limited period of time. They do at least submit the insurance forms for you, and that helps some. I wholeheartedly recommend this practice and all the doctors in it, and have a deep appreciation for how Dr. Sexter and Nurse Jennifer have taken care of our girls.

Best decision ever. We now have two kids in Dr. Ariza's care and have been with them for 2 years. The office is more of a boutique than a sad or scary doctor's office. Decorated perfect for kids and very inviting. We have never had to wait long and both the ladies at the front desk and the Nurse Kadera (so sorry if I misspelled her name!) are great. Kadera is friendly, gentle and was able to draw blood from my 2 year old with no issues! She's seriously the best. She calls the kids friends and that in itself is such a gift. Dr Ariza is literally an angel. Very supportive of me as a mom and my kids adore her - enough that we play "Dr Ariza" every day. EVERY.DAY. She is a dream come true pediatrician and we feel so lucky to have her. She's brilliant, kind, helpful and supportive. And obsessed with her cool shoes. My 2 year old is highly afraid of Shots AND doctors, but Dr. Lamson was able to entertain the little guy enough where he allowed him to pull his pant leg up so that he could administer the vaccine on his thigh, he cried a bit, but after that, he wanted Dr. Lamson to play with him. My 4 year old, on the other hand, loved how Dr. Lamson installed a video game system in the waiting lobby and he also enjoyed the decorations that were put up in the patient room. He asked me if he could come here for his future wellness visits and we just might schedule both of their wellness visits here and just leave emergency and sick visits for our local pediatrics!

The physical site is gorgeous, parking is nearby (not free though) and it's metro accessible. It's clean, the staff are friendly and professional and they have an in-house lab which saves a trip to Lab Corp. Additionally, they now offer mental health services which is a nice bonus. If you need a prescription called in to your local pharmacy, you can request via their app or website. If you have a non-urgent issue and need advice, you can message a nurse or doctor for help. If you have an urgent (non-emergency) issue, you can usually get an appointment relatively quickly; scheduling through the app is very easy. The user interface is easy to navigate. Also, the staff don't try to "upsell" you in any way or pressure you to get an unnecessary vaccine or test. In closing, I highly recommend OneMedical. It's worth the annual fee (which isn't that pricey IMHO). There are locations throughout the country - and the network of providers at every location is superb.
