5 stars for the doctor, 1 (0 really) for MedStar…read more Our child is a patient of Dr. Serrano and I was very happy with our last appointment. Dr. Serrano is so sharp, empirical, and eager to find a diagnosis and solution. We've also had very good interactions with her NP and her staff. Would absolutely recommend her. However, MedStar keeps cannibalizing medical practices in the DMV and it's not been for the better. Scheduling is centralized and reaching someone to schedule a basic, reasonable appointment for an existing patient through central scheduling is mission impossible. It's awful. It's a testament to Dr. Serrano that we haven't sought out another practice because dealing with Medstar is the worst.

I've never had worse service at a doctor than I had here. Not only do all exams take twice as long…read moresince they have a learning doctor do it first before bringing in the real doctor. But, getting DC school forms, which should be straightforward took over 6 weeks, with 10 calls to confirm that it was done. Once I went to pick it up (after being told it was done), only one of my kids had it filled out. (I had confirmed on the phone the day before that both were filled out.) This is super concerning as it seems that they lost my kids medical records multiple times. They also did not test my daughter for Lyme when she was really sick even though I had asked her to. She ended up having to go to the emergency room a week later because her Lyme had gotten so bad that she couldn't walk. This could have been prevented if they had just run a simple.blood test that we requested 5 times. Please do not go here.

They have a primary care physician assigned - Dr. Sexter - but they have at some point or another been seen by all of their physicians. Every one of them are great: kind, compassionate, attentive, and responsive. You will feel heard and they will address your concerns. Their knowledge and expertise is extraordinary. The office - staff and doctors - are also super responsive. If you have a pressing question, someone will get back to you that day. If it's an after hours emergency, there is always a doctor on call and they will respond within 30 minutes. The doctors hold daily office hours but it can be tricky to get a hold of them if they're experiencing a volume of calls. An extra perk I like is that they keep appointments available daily for those common but unplanned for illnesses, and they have a separate waiting room for sick vs not sick. It just runs so well you wonder why more doctors' offices don't do the same. Now of course, the one downside is they are out of network. It's not cheap. I think it's worth it if you can, but financially it can hurt if your kids have a lot of illnesses or shots in a limited period of time. They do at least submit the insurance forms for you, and that helps some. I wholeheartedly recommend this practice and all the doctors in it, and have a deep appreciation for how Dr. Sexter and Nurse Jennifer have taken care of our girls.

She has been my 2 year olds doctor for the past 2 years and we are continually impressed. The office is fantastic , clean , inviting , separate infant space. The front desk staff always try to accommodate you same day and we've never had an issue getting an appointment. Dr Long is caring , warm , and so knowledgeable. She works with us to troubleshoot issues when/if they come up and is readily available. Thank you Spring Valley Peds and Dr Long for the fabulous care of our boys!!! K&M

If you have been a parent or child in Upper Northwest anytime in the past 30 years, you have…read moreprobably visited Dr. Balfour at least once. Dr. Balfour is a careful, practiced pediatrician with years of experience and the old-school style that goes along with it. Dr. Balfour may be considered too cautious by some, and make no mistakes, he will order tests for just about everything, but he is genuinely concerned about the health and well being of his patients. His cautiousness most likely stems from the fact that he got his MD in 1950s Argentina where he had much more to worry about than sniffles and strep throat. Dr. Balfour runs a very efficient office, and I have never had to wait longer than a few minutes. He also has separate waiting rooms for contaigious patients and patients that are just there for a checkup or diagnostic, which is such a good idea that it makes me wonder why it is not standard practice in every doctor's office. My only bad experience with him involved him refusing to sign a permission slip to participate in a scuba diving class at Montgomery College when he asked if I enjoyed a certain plant of dubious legal standing, but like I said, he is old school.

He wasn't as playful as…read moreother kids and was an extremely picky eater--only eating two foods and refusing to try anything new. This affected not only his development but also raised concerns about his weight. That's when Triumph Therapeutics and Ms. Karah stepped in. They created a personalized plan and provided tips on how to encourage him to try new foods. Ms. Karah was incredibly patient and introduced fun games to make mealtime enjoyable, helping him become more comfortable with trying different foods and using utensils--something he had really struggled with. She also guided us in establishing a pre-meal routine to get him excited about eating. (He now refuses to sit a table to eat without washing his hands) Over the summer, the transformation was remarkable. He went from eating very little to becoming an adventurous eater. He even started expressing when he was hungry and telling us what he wanted to eat, which he had never done before! His dad and I are self proclaimed foodies and we love that we can now bring him on our food adventures with much more confidence! Thanks to Ms. Karah and Triumph Therapeutics, we've seen such amazing progress. My son is now a part of all our family food adventures, and we couldn't be happier!

I'll start by saying Dr. Moore is great! I'd really love for my kids to keep seeing her…read more Unfortunately, their wait times are just too long. We've been over a dozen times, and all but one of those appointments we've had significant waits. On two occasions we waited for over an hour in the exam room after initially seeing the nurse. This would probably be doable if my kids were older but it does not work for toddlers/ babies. We walked out of the office earlier this week after waiting for over an hour for an appointment for our 1-month-old. Dr. Moore called that night and left a very nice message apologizing, so we decided to give them one more shot. I called 30 minutes before today's makeup appointment to confirm they were on time. After being put on hold, the receptionist said they were running behind. I asked if I should come in 30 minutes after the scheduled start, and she said they were "like really behind" and asked if I could come in this evening to see another doctor. As much as we love Dr. Moore, we're going to have to find another pediatrician for our kids. I really hope Children's National recognizes this issue with wait times/ overscheduling/ lack of communication with patients. I feel bad for Dr. Moore and their staff who deal with this daily. If Dr. Moore ends up leaving for another practice, I hope she reaches out! We'd love for our kids to continue seeing her.

TLDR: care is good, admin is not…read more We took our daughter to Friendship Pediatrics from birth to 18 months. We eventually left out of a combination of finding a more conveniently located practice and frustration with the administrative side of Friendship. Care: We were completely happy with the care we received from the various providers, particularly Dr. Moore (she's great!). Admin: 1) Even though we typically booked the very first appointment in the morning, we often had to wait to be seen and so 30-minute well visits often ran over an hour. 2) Getting the standard DC-required forms completed for day care enrollment took nearly 3 weeks and a few follow-up emails (it's a 5-minute form). 3) Friendship mis-coded an insurance claim and balance-billed us when the claim was rejected saying it was the insurance's fault. We paid $200 for preventative care that should have been covered by insurance because we didn't know better. Friendship has failed to correct the billing mistake and reimburse us despite us doing the work to look at multiple bills and figure out the coding mistake ourselves.

I called inquiring about the EEG results. what a surprise, she didn't have them and stated that I need to follow up again under vague pretenses. I was disgusted and told her that I do not feel comfortable going to her because of what happened. Her attitude changed. She seemed more defensive. She made everything seem as if it was all my fault and alludes to me lying and claiming that she never said what she said when she failed me, the patient during my follow up. Gaslighting.
