In the meantime, they instructed me to go to Urgent Care or the ER! Several other times, owing to minor issues such as ear infections and conjunctivitis, they insisted I do a Telehealth appointment or otherwise, go to Urgent Care or the ER. Further, annual physicals have not been comprehensive. Moreover, for my first physical with Barnard Medical, they assigned a medical student to conduct it, in its entirety (w/o any other doctors present). In addition, this was despite the fact that I had requested, in writing in my medical records, that I did not agree to be seen by medical students. It appears as if the doctors rarely even come into the office! The lovely Nurse Practitioner, Kristine, is the gem that seems to hold the office together! She shows both care and concern, and although there is a lag time to see her, too, at least you can get an appointment with her in person (eventually).

Today, I got the chance to experience what the nation's top medical research agency had to offer. First & foremost, if you do not have to drive, PLEASE take Metro...hindsight regarding parking is most absolutely 20/20. Plus a little exercise doesn't hurt anybody. I had an interview today, yet not before the 'screening for access' took place: Pull vehicle forward. Turn off engine. Leave door open. & then take all of your belongings, including every piece of computer & or electronic devices on your person. While the vehicle was getting screened, so was I. After a few minutes of having my ID scanned more ways than one, providing the small piece of paper from the initial license plate log in, I was giving a temporary visitor pass with a full headshot & my name displayed. I was then allowed to go on my way. A way that took 30 minutes of following the map to the dedicated building. Actually, locating the building only took 10 minutes with a couple of u-turns here & there, yet finding parking was the most time consumption. Kudos to the NIH police officer off the Old G-Town Road gateway entry for pointing me in the right direction to a MLP (Multi-Level Parking garage) that had spaces available. I'm sure if I passed him one more time, he would not have been as friendly. :-) Although I arrived 45 minutes early, I was now against the clock from finding the building & a parking space. & in clutch mode, the kind spirited parking attendant MLP-6 heard my internal plea & told me to leave my keys with her & to be on my way...THANK YOU Ms. T -working the AM shift! After a few more friendly fingers pointing me in the right direction, I arrived to the laboratory, one of many massive laboratories housed in one building. Well perhaps I knocked on the wrong door at first, yet the Lab Techs & eventually the Lab Manager were all very nice turning me around to the appropriate laboratory. Every facet of a person I crossed paths with today, whether maintenance, law enforcement-security check in, clinical, scientific, & even an Educator, was simply pleasant & helpful. I can only imagine the camaraderie amongst everyone within these 27 different institutes that makes up NIH. & their own personal stamp in discovering innovations to improve health & or save lives. What an amazing & well manicured campus of greenery, LEED buildings, handicap parking spaces, parking buildings (mostly for permit holders), LED crosswalks, & of course the never ending maze of getting around.

I wish this was the standard of care but I'm afraid the amount of time he spends with his patients is no longer supported by the American healthcare system. My children love their appointments and my five year old cried in the car recently because she couldn't go back for a year and she wanted more shots. That's not normal. It's just how good he is. I've seen people strapping kids down to administer even the oral vaccinations at a closer clinic where Dr. Darden plays with them and delivers it as close to no tears as you can get. Dr Ibe is a wonderful, smart and caring person. She both listens and observes; then offers solutions to fit your needs and wishes. For instance, I told her I did not like taking prescription drugs. Each time, she has printed out exercises for my particular needs. The neck and shoulder exercises along with just 5 pills worked like a charm. I am for certain that the exercises I received today will be helpful as well. The office is clean and staff members are efficient, polite, and respectful. The lady was so polite, let me hold her arm so I felt assured of my safety in getting to the correct door. What I could see the office set up was very nicely. The receptionist was so kind and welcoming and someone else guided me around to another waiting room!!. Nobody minded that I held onto them trying to navigate where I was going. I didn't sit for long at all so this place is decently quick but take their time with helping you with what you came in for I came in for chest pains. The Dr assistant was Anthony! he was nice, conversational and made sure I was okay or needed something simple as water while I waited. We talked about craving chicken wings and where to get them and the Easter holiday. The Dr Hadi he was very about my care and what was going on with me. Insightful all my test came out normal !!! My latest placement brought me to this facility. Like many of the doctors in the area, they don't have a lab in-office, but have the basics for getting an annual physical. As a new member, I had to fill out some forms, and then the medical assistant weighed me and measured my height. In the past, I've had to face the wall for those, and this time I faced away from the wall... that's new for me! And my blood pressure was taken with one of the small machines, not one of the big ones. Is that the new trend? I always considered the big machines the 'professional' ones for the office, and the small ones were for personal use. I'm willing to bet studies showed there's no significant difference between the two. And then my EKGs got taken... seamless process. I then had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Hassan. He was very professional, open to any questions or concerns, and overall a nice guy. He sent me off to get lab work done nearby, and then I returned to discuss those results. He kept it 100% and didn't immediately want to prescribe medicine for some high numbers I have... I appreciate his expertise. For anyone in the area, I can't find a reason to recommend someone besides Dr. Hassan.
