When they sent me with my newborn to perform an unnecessary scan for a misdiagnosis, I did not say anything. When they sent me the school forms with the personal identifying details of a different child instead of my son, I did not say anything. When their office insisted to call me constantly on a wrong number that was not on file, I did not say anything. Now it's time to say something.
I have been "un-honorably" discharged from CMG with a letter sent to my home. They wanted to make sure that the impact is strong and well felt and as such they all signed this letter unanimously. More than a dozen signatures of doctors, whom most of I don't know and who do not know me, all assembled to send me a letter according to which, I am a rude person, who treated their staff with disrespect and as such they decided to terminate my kids from their office. The only two doctors who know me in this practice, and if required to testify under oath, will probably tell you that I was one of the most gentle mothers in their office.
But this story is bigger than me. This is a story of how the US became the country with the highest health expenditure per capita in the world, and how private doctors are extracting money from the government for procedures and care that were not provided.
In 2021 all my household members asked to be tested for Covid. CMG was closed and my Telehealth connection with CMG was never established. A simple phone call with the office to book the "Drive-Through" PCR test in their parking lot ended up with an extraordinary, unsolicited bill for me and my health insurance (in addition to the kids) described as a "Physical Exam" with a comprehensive description of my "general appearance" including eye exam, ear exam, nose and lungs exam. The Covid test charge was accompanied by a large bill for my "physical exam" that never took place from a doctor whom I have never heard his name before.
In 2022, when I got Covid, I called CMG to ask if my kids could go to school, I was afraid that they would be potentially contagious to other kids. I never called for myself, I have my own PCP office who is not connected by any shape or mean to CMG. Again, this did not prevent from CMG to send a huge bill to me and my health insurance, according to which, this time I am an "established patient". Again, CMG does not have the slightest clue about my medical background. And while to my health insurance they described me as an "established patient", CMG wrote in my instant imaginary "medical file" -- "This member could not be found in the payer's files. Please verify coverage and all member demographic information." - is this how an established patient medical file look like at CMG?
When I received the bill this time, I refused to pay it and of course reported it to my health insurance. The billing office had the Dr. herself call me. I did confront the practice, the falsified charges and the unethical reporting.
Soon after, the letter of discharge arrived from the office, according to which I am a rude and disrespectful person. In this same letter they wrote that they will do everything they can to transfer my kids' medical records smoothly to a new office.
Smoothly? They could not have been more vindictive. They made sure to incorporate the letter of discharge, a copy for each kid sealed in a CD and a PDF format for the new doctor's office. They insisted that they wanted to send the file from their office straight to the new doctor. Of course, I knew better than this. We called the office and one of the staff said "they would delete the letters from the CD for a charge," so I bought my own PDF editor. In my "medical file", however, the half nonsense page describing me as an "established patient" they "forgot" to include the discharge letter, didn't they think that my own Physician would need this fictitious file? read more
