I wanted to update this after having such great success working with Amanda over the past few…read moremonths. After struggling with eczema for YEARS and being told by several doctors that all you can do is treat with a steroid cream, I decided to buckle down and get to the bottom of things. In reality, it took a serious outbreak of hives and painful eczema patches that followed for me to accept that there was more I could be doing. Enter Amanda.... she did a thorough assessment of my various symptoms (like more thorough than any doctor has ever done) and turns out there was more than just the eczema hinting to some food problems. She suggested a food sensitivity testing. The results were so surprising... at least to me. Turns out I'm reactive to a few VERY COMMON foods! Wheat, dairy, pork, turkey, and corn to name a few (even sweet potatoes and cauliflower?!). Needless to say it suddenly made a lot of sense why I used to feel so horrible after holiday meals. Amanda was really helpful in meal planning to get around these sensitivities and I'm happy to report for the first winter in many years I've had 0 eczema outbreaks! When I stick with my "green" foods I have no bloating, brain fog, nausea or heartburn and I just generally feel soooo much better. I'd highly suggest working with her if you've been struggling with these issues. She responded quickly, was really supportive in this process, and is very food positive (ie. she prioritizes building on foods that work with your body that you actually like!). Can't recommend her enough!

With Amanda's help we were able to find out which foods were causing the eczema break outs. Once my daughter and I (since I was breastfeeding) went on a modified LEAP diet recommended by Amanda, my daughter cleared up within five days. Amanda was also a great resource to us with meal planning. Without her, I probably would not have been able to sustain our new diet. She was very reassuring and professional throughout the entire process and made things seamless rather than daunting. I have recommended Amanda to all of my friends who have eczema or children with eczema. I highly recommend taking the MRT test under Amanda's guidance if you are struggling with any autoimmune diseases.

Kelly helped us to gather and purchase three things: small dried chinese ginseng root ($9), Herbal Tea Blend ($6) to hopefully remediate canker sore symptoms, and a custom made herbal oil ($20) for natural pain management. She spent quite a bit of time with us, since the last two things needed the backroom to custom formulate. Square is their payment processor, with credit cards and Venmo being accepted. Types of product: -- a large collection of herbs, available as single ($10 per oz) or combined ($15 per oz). -- donated herbs and dry goods section: visitors can place or take shelf-stable products. Would have thought -- collective: various donation based sponsored clinics/classes. one example is 'Intro to Herbalism', taught once a month (first Saturday of every month). -- chocolates from Endorfin foods -- custom made essential oils, with testers -- incense sticks and sets -- loose teas at $3 - $4 per oz -- books and literature -- apothecary supplies -- gemstones and tarot cards The inside is super organized, promoting a sense of calm to explore. Kinda reminded me of some of the shops in Sedona, AZ. Their website is also very good, neatly organized to help you find what you need. Parking is limited (one driveway spot for customers), but street parking in the area during the day is not so bad. I think the best description about their business is what they wrote about themselves: "Green Wisdom provides highest quality bulk herbs, ethically sourced, and apothecary ingredients and supplies. We have a skilled herbalist on staff at all times to answer questions, create personalized formulas, and offer assistance. We are also one of the most respected herb schools in California, offering apprenticeships, workshops, and individual classes. In 2020 we will be providing donation-based herb clinics staffed by our advanced apprentices and overseen by trained herbalists."

This is the only herbal apothecary in the area that I'm aware of and it's also one of the few affordable apothecaries in Long Beach. You can tell their mission is really to make herbal remedies and medicine from the earth accessible to everyone. All of the women I've encountered who work at and run this door are deeply knowledgeable. My favorite activity is to go here with some type of issue or ailment and to ask them to make me a custom tea blend to help support my body's healing capacity. But this place is so much more than tea and herbs! It's a lovely little marketplace which features crystals locally made honey and handmade trinkets of all kinds! Every visit feels like a unique, tiny adventure and I look forward to coming every single time.

I was sitting at my desk one morning, pants unbuckled and thought yeeeaaa I need to figure this out lol. I knew I needed some guidance when it came to working out otherwise I would be too overwhelmed to figure it out alone. Luckily, I came across this yelp page and messaged Miros on instagram. She let me bring my best friend and we've been seeing her 2-3 times a week for the last 3 months. It took a while for me to see or feel any progress especially after the holidays and my PCOS but Miros was always so encouraging. She would check in with us regarding our meal plans without ever making us feel judged. She pushed us to do more every session and on days when our bodies just weren't feeling it she would modify the workout so we were able to get through it. Finally, 3 months later I've lost almost 10 pounds and feel sooo much better. Im excited to continue this fitness journey and I couldn't recommend Miros enough!

I hang out with her a lot, but it wasn't until this past Saturday when I've actually worked out with her at one of her Saturday morning boot camp sessions by the beach. We've been saying we should work out together forEVER but it was usually a scheduling thing that prevented me from doing anything regular with her. Besides, I was always training for one marathon or another and when you're doing that there's very little time for other kinds of physical training (well, for me, anyway :P). Since my next half marathon training won't be starting up for a few months, I thought it'd be a great chance to check out one of her boot camp sessions. It was a great cross-training opportunity for me, since I run mostly and even when I do weights at the gym I don't really push myself all that much. Plus, it's not as expensive when you do a group class. Spring is here and it's really nice to be exercising outdoors anyway. I must say, my first workout was pretty intense--I ended up doing all the stuff I usually avoid, like lunges, push ups, running up and down stairs, etc etc. It was very challenging, which was great, but if some of the stuff gets to be too much you can totally modify to suit your fitness level. Jesika never yells or screams at you (unless you want her to) but she'll work you hard. Even though I whined and complained and got really sore from taxing some unused muscles, I'll be going back for more next week.
