First visit to Marvino's didn't disappoint!! Nice atmosphere and our server Preston and his team did an excellent job. Our food was prepared to perfection and the portions are very generous. MUST READ REVIEW!!! My mom and I were craving Italian, so when this restaurant popped up on Yelp, I jumped on it! The reviews were either great or really bad, so I'm here to set the record straight! IT IS WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My mom and I ate a late breakfast, so we ended up eating a late lunch. We arrived around 3:00pm. The hostess was great and sat us right away. She brought us a high chair, but my (one year old) daughter wasn't feeling it so she sat with me! When we go out to eat we always share so we don't waste. We started with the Wedge Salad and told our waitress we were sharing. They brought it out on two separate plates for us! I love when restaurants do this! It was absolutely delicious! Covered with dressing, blue cheese crumbles, bacon, and cheese! My daughter loved it!!! And there was plenty for all of us even being split! I have never had veal, so I decided to try the Veal Scaloppini with the Romano Crusted option. This meant it came with mushrooms, artichokes, and capers in a beurre blanc sauce. It was served with mashed potatoes and green beans! EPIC!!!!!!!!!!!!! My mom and I shared again and they brought the dish out on separate plates again! The portions were huge! We both devoured our food!!!! Wouldn't change one thing!!!!! The veal was cooked perfectly!! It was crusted and pan seared! Oh my goodness! Do not pass on this dish!!!!! My first visit to Marvino's was on Mother's Day and it turned out to be more of a disaster than the nice family dinner I was expecting. We arrived at Noon for our reservations and the dining room was about ¼ occupied, which gave me bit of concern after reading the Yelp reviews and the restaurant only have three out of five stars. While it is over twenty miles from our home, I chose Marvino's mainly due to their location, which was convenient for the family that was meeting us. And it appeared to be the most upscale restaurant in an unfamiliar area. While Marvino's appears to have all the makings of the upscale restaurant I was hoping for, it fell short in so many areas it is hard to find where to start. The biggest disappointment was the service. After being seated we were greeted by a young lady who introduced herself and announced she would be serving us. After asking for a wine list, she came back quickly with a cocktail and wine list. I selected a red and a white for the table, which were presented quite sometime after ordering by young man who told us he and the young lady would be serving us today. He poured the wine and things were off to a good start! A few minutes later the young lady returned and took our orders, since it was a "Mother's Day" menu with limited offerings she wanted us to order the starter, main and dessert at the same time, which we obliged, and she departed. After about 10 minutes our wine glasses were close to empty, but there was no one around; finally, my wife finally flagged down the girl serving the bread baskets and asked for more wine. It was clear this young lady was unfamiliar with serving wine but did an admiral job, and we were thirsty. Throughout the meal both servers were MIA 99% of the time and only returned one when I got their attention from across the room or they were delivering the next course. Twice I could not find the servers and had to get up and refill our wine glasses; completely unacceptable in a restaurant that wants to be of the caliber they pose. In summary, their service staff were untrained and unprofessional. Bottomline is the service was horrible and unworthy of a return visit. With "special" menus for occasions, it is usually hit or miss with the quality of food being served; yesterday it was more of a miss than a hit. It felt like we were at a mediocre hotel banquet with prepared food being served in courses. When the lobster bisque was served it had cold "film" sitting atop the bowl which clearly indicate it had been "sitting" for some time after it was poured into the bowl. The flavor of the bisque was exceptionally good and there were nice little bits of lobster, but the lukewarm temperature took away from its quality. The salads were very nice and complemented by those having them. The Thin Sliced Tenderloin with Blue Cheese was a nice dish, but the tenderloin was sliced thinner than prosciutto and barely enough to provide the flavor needed for the dish. Plenty of blue cheese was atop the small slice of toast but was lacking the quantity of sauce needed to complete the dish. From around our table, we selected the Prime Rib and Filet Oscar as mains. My Filet was a beautiful piece of meat and cooked perfectly, unfortunately it had been sitting out too long and by the time it was served, the meat along with the balance of the plate was barely above room temperature. The same with the Prime Rib, it was a wonderful larger cut, but barely warm when served. Which indicated at the dishes were all prepared and sitting just waiting to be served, like you would find at large hotel banquet. The two stars are generous and driven by the lack of service and the improper temperatures of the dishes served. When spending almost $100 per person for food before drinks, I expect more out of a restaurant that Marvino's provided during our Mother's Day dinner yesterday. Marvino's website states, "The Best Restaurant in Cypress, TX". Which clearly can't be the case, or Cypress must really be in dire need of some good restaurants. read more

To experience my third Houston Restaurant Weeks dine for 2021, I met two friends for lunch at Marvino's last Friday. It was my first visit here in over 6 years due to my original Yelp review below which was a 2 star experience. We arrived at about noon and were seated in a booth with the HRW menu offering a 3 course lunch for $20. I chose the agnolotti pasta for the first with Marvino's pasta as the second with the mezzanotte chocolate cake to finish. A basket of complimentary bread and butter promptly arrived with our drinks. Perhaps 15 minutes later the first course arrived. My two ravioli pasta shells had braised short rib meat inside with a cream sauce drizzled over them. They were light in content but still good tasting. Within another 15 minutes or so my marvino's pasta showed up. It had crabmeat and ship with the pasta combined in a spicy red sauce. This portion had a generous amount of seafood in it and I thought the sauce was moderately spicy which is all I wanted flavor wise. I enjoyed the entree and would order it again. Finally, much later I ended with the cake that had added some strawberries and blueberries. It was rich and moist as it looked. This meal overall was a good one that I would rate a 3.5. What lowered the score tremendously was our table service. The restaurant was moderately full however for some reason we were constantly forgotten about. Very slow drink refills, plate clearing between courses and getting our checks. Now fortunately for us we weren't in a hurry because we were catching up with each other however all 3 of us noticed this lack of service. It was bad. I'm not sure why this happened because they weren't full but it happened. We stayed almost 2 hours and should have ended the meal at least 30-45 minutes sooner. I don't know why I have such bad luck with this restaurant but I guess it will be 6 more years before I return, if I ever do. I know several places to go for better Italian and better service. We have had 2 good experiences here, but it almost feels like there was a change in the kitchen. We gave so many chances to Marvino's but we will no longer return. Their prices are equal to or if not higer to some of the best fine dining restaurants in Houston but they have some of the worse quality in food. We ordered their jumbo shrimp cocktail appetizer hoping it would not be as bad as the time before. The shrimp were not "jumbo" and did not look freshly made in house but looked store bought from HEB or Costco. We all spit out the shrimp because they had turned spoiled. It was a bit shocking for us especially that it was a $22 appetizer. This was the second time this happened. The staff was kind and we enjoy the ambiance but the food quality and high prices would run anyone away visiting the area or living in Cypress. Sadly, this is probably why they are slow most days. read more

It was my moms birthday so I made a reservation well in advance and when we arrived to the restaurant we were told they didn't have a table available and we were on the wait list. I asked what the point of having a reservation was so they tried to quickly accommodate and we were sat within the next ten minutes or so but this was just the beginning. Our waiter was very kind and knowledgeable. However, when she took my order I realized she forgot to ask how I wanted it cooked. Due to being pregnant I have been getting my steak cooked medium well and asked that it was prepared that way. Which she responded, this specific dish is already prepared medium well so it worked out perfect. But when the food came out mine was no where to be found, which is fine, I have worked in the food industry and the person who brought out our food said it would be just a couple of minutes. Granted it was a busy night - it was almost 30 minutes until our server was able to come over and realized my order was no where to be found. After she made the realization (I'm almost positive she forgot to put it in and had blamed it on the kitchen) my order came out in maybe 5 minutes and was RAW. By this point the rest of my family had already finished up eating and we had let the waiter know I couldn't eat the meat prepared that way. Overall, not a great experience and when the manager came over he was very rude. They did end up taking the meal off the ticket and giving us like 3 free deserts but I didn't eat dinner and that manager is the reason the review is so low. So this was my first visit in years. We were regulars for a couple of years until their menu switched. Today reminded me why I haven t been and now won t EVER return. We had the tenderloins and 2 lemonades The food was horrible at best for the price very bland sauce was watered down. Next on the list is our useless server Jaxston who seemed to not want to be bothered. He lacked customer service skills Amazingly he laughed as he walked away after receiving no tip. I LOVE showing my gratitude for service rendered so if I result to a big fat zero that means you blew it big time. Do better! I will start off with the positive and that was the food. Went for Thursday steak night and my group really enjoyed the ribeyes. Lamb chops were excellent also. I arrived early for a reservation and was promptly seated which is a plus. Started off with one server who took our drink orders and that was the last we saw of him. I asked the new waiter 20 minutes later where our drinks were and he said he would check the time and tells me we ordered them less than five minutes ago. So to be called a liar, was not a good experience. And he had attitude like I was just making up how long our beverages were taking. First round took at least 25 minutes. While I'm not too much of a fan for Italian cuisine, I surprisingly found Marvino's food to be pretty good. I had met another Yelp friend and her family here for dinner recently. We were seated in one of those circular booths. After looking thru the menu thoroughly, I decided to go with a chicken Parmesan dish. It was a hefty piece of chicken breast topped with cheese and tomato sauce and served over linguine. The chicken was very juicy and the tomato sauce had nice flava with a bursting aroma of garlic, which I love. My friend and her BF had also ordered salads with their dishes, and once the salads came out, they looking so pretty and nicely presented. As a result, I ended up ordering myself a house salad also. It was good. I enjoyed it. Our service was up to par. Covid restrictions were in place. Staff was covered in masks. I plan on visiting them again.... soon! read more

Came in from out of town and thought we'd try some good Italian food. Based on the prices, we thought it would be above average. Boy, were we wrong. Servers didn't seem to know who was helping us. They took our order tag-team, and several choices had to be repeated so one could write it, and the other could put it into his tablet. One of our guests ordered the lasagna, and the server told her to get something else, because that was a basic dish. Another guest got the Thursday steak special (T-bone), and when it was delivered, I noticed a weird smell (almost like bad seafood). I wasn't sure where it was coming from, but when our guest took 2 bites, he quickly realized it was his steak. We smelled it again, and it was like the meat had gone bad. Very overwhelming smell. The rest of the food was just ok, but nothing amazing. Our server took the steak, smelled it, and tried to hide his epression before explaining that it might smell a little weird, like maybe it wasn't fresh enough. He did offer to take it off our check. After the meal, we asked for the check and explained that we'd like separate bills. He said ok and walked away. 20 minutes later, as he walked by, I again asked for the checks, and he said he thought another server already had us pay. We should have just walked out at that point. He then brought the check (not separated, and with the steak still on there) and asked if it was right. I again explained that we wanted separate checks, and he said he'd have to get some help. Another server came over 10 minutes later and explained that it was hard to separate the checks. We asked about the steak being removed, and he said he didn't know anything about that and he should get a manager. (yeah, you should, and the manager should have come over immediately when the steak was sent back due to being spoiled). The manager came over finally and listened to us explain it again and agreed to remove the steak and chastised us for not saying we wanted separate checks earlier. Then another waiter came over and finally checked us out and stood over our shoulder to ensure we each left a tip on the portable machine. read more

Omg we found a new spot. We had Salmon and it was cooked to perfection!!! So Fresh!!! For all Salmon lovers it's a MUST!!! Thursday night is Steak night and I order the Ribeye came with Baked potatoes and house salad. NO WORDS. It was AMAZING TENDER JUICY. I'll be here every Thursday and must I said they closed at 9pm and we got there at 8:45 pm was a little scared it may not be good but I was WRONG!!! Went here for Valentine's Day. Second time here, first I think for $109 the portions were extremely small. For the first course I ordered the "crab cakes" I recieved a singular crab cake. Not crab cakes. If it is only one I don't think it should be advertised as more than. Second, I ordered my meat medium well, and my significant other ordered medium rare. They gave me mine cooked medium rare and his medium well. (We ordered two different dishes). Mashed potatoes were cold on half and the other half was luke warm. Then, even the dessert was even very small portion size. Chocolate covered strawberries? Got 3 and the chocolate was melting off it. Lastly, no where anywhere on the menu did it specify 20% gratuity is included. This caught as surprise as 20% gratuity is way more than what service and hospitality we recieved. Vast menu of chicken, steak, seafood & pasta. GULF SNAPPER - The pan snapper was a bit soft, but the large amount of lump crab meat on top, tender & smother in great white wine sauce made up for that. GRILLED CHICKEN & SHRIMP - Thick, super tender, grilled to perfection, nice portion chicken breast with large juicy shrimp & excellent sauce. VEGETABLES - The veggies with all dishes were fresh, crispy, sautéed with butter, garlic & seasonings, not plain with no flavor. The service was excellent even though they were super slammed, very attentive with a smile. PRALINE PECAN CHEESECAKE - Excellent, LARGE slice of cheesecake, plated on top of caramel drizzle. I enjoyed the Salmon Oscar style (grilled perfectly done but not overcooked in the slightest, topped with a creamy bearnaise sauce and jumbo lump crab meat). Our small table of three, on a Wednesday night, had two waiters. It was very odd and a little awkward in my opinion. There was a large group so perhaps an extra waiter was added to ensure they had enough hands - I would understand for the large group but for three people, there was no point. Other than having both try to make small talk (not needed) and ask if the other guy already did x, y, z. The food was good but the atmosphere has a chain vibe to it. I hate to say it but I did not enjoy this restaurant at all. To start out we were given cold and hard bread with a cold honey butter. It just didn't mesh well together. Then for an appetizer I ordered the spinach and artichoke dip.. it was very bland, and had the consistency of a thick gravy like soup. Then I ordered the caesar salad, it wasn't a traditional caesar dressing which is probably why I didn't like it. Lastly I ordered the chicken parmesan with alfredo. I can say the chicken was crispy with a nice, big helping but the marinara sauce was soooo sweet, almost like ketchup. Then for the pasta, it's advertised as homemade pasta but it did not taste that way what so ever and the sauce had no flavor. So in conclusion, I would not recommend this restaurant at all, hopefully they evolve overtime though! read more

First and last time ever coming to this place. I came for the happy hour from 3 to 6 and sat at the bar. Service was poor. A person I'm assuming is the manager greeted me kindly when I first walked in, but once I sat at the bar, I was barely acknowledged. I was given water but no verbal greeting. He gave me a happy hour and drink menu. I had to request a food menu and get his attention again when I was ready to order. I had the oysters Rockefeller which the flavor was ok but I was spitting bites of shell out with every bite. I had one Tito's martini ($17) , over priced in my opinion...especially after the bartender asked how I was doing and I pointed out my view. (Pictures added) fruit flies COVERING the bar tools. No discount or anything as offered. It was a Sunday afternoon and we went with friends for brunch. The initial impression was that of a nice Italian restaurant with high end decor. The server greeted us all and our orders were taken. Me and another friend got the chicken and waffles while one ordered an eggs Benedict while my wife got a chicken fried chicken. It was not long before the orders came out but my order appeared to have a bite taken out of the fried chicken breast. I asked the server about it which she explained that it was probably the area where the thongs picked up the chicken from the fryer. I was still concerned about it and one of my friends asked her to get me another one but the server started saying oh really which was disheartening but the manager came over and made everything much better. Went for HRW lunch, wasn't crowded but it seemed slightly under staffed. Even so, service was nice. Dining room is kind of dark. When seated they took our drink order and brought us some soft sliced bread and seasoned butter. I ordered the calamari (nice light crisp and tender), Marvino's Pasta (sauce was tasty but the shrimp was a little over cooked) and Chocolate cake (moist and delicious). The food here is very good. I actually think they serve some of the best prepared steak I've had. We recommend the Crab Cake appetizer, which is usually my entree' if I don't get the Marvino's Filet. All of of family live the atmosphere and food. read more

I decided to step in one evening & there was live music as well as a great ambience. If you're one to be concerned about the wait staff wearing mask just a heads up they weren't on that evening. The restaurant was clean & the staff was amazing. Attentive, quick & great communication. The food was outstanding. The Ribeye steak was tender & made to perfection at medium. We had a great experience. This is a more upscale experience than it is casual. The prices are a little higher but reflect the type of food in the menu. The main dishes are steaks, shrimp, lobster, chicken parmesan. The tables are set formally, white linen and separate forks for salad and main dish. The staff were attentive and gracious. The food was delicious. They offered some food options for diabetics. This is always a challenge when eating out but we keep prepared for these events. My husband and I visited for my birthday dinner. We wanted a romantic atmosphere and Marvino's was good for that. The food was really good although quite pricy, which I was prepared for. What I didn't expect was our server did not seem to think we were worthy of being there. I had a glass of wine and my husband had a cocktail with dinner. We were never offered a second drink. I definitely wanted another glass of wine, but our server was MIA. So we gave up and asked to order dessert. We used the Yelp check in free dessert offer. Be prepared if you use this offer to be sneered at. I was really surprised at his attitude. All of the other servers who came by were so gracious and nice but our server was so cold and unfriendly.
