    hamburg and oyster
    Joana S.

Walked in and staff was friendly and the place had a fun theme! The booth we had was nice and spacious. Lunch food was solid. My favorites were actually the ribeye and fried oysters. im not a fan of hamburger but the patty was pretty good haha. Best part was free soup and rice with unlimited refills! It's a solid restaurant choice!

Located in Kaimuki, this is a casual quick-service type restaurant. The menu has lots to choose from so variety for everyone. There are even options for the kids. I like how the food came out on a sizzling platter! The hamburger patty was quite soft so I wasn't used to the texture. There is also a self-serve soft serve machine in the front of the restaurant as you enter. Overall, my family and I had a nice meal with good service. We will be back again! Happy Eating!

A happy place. Definitely a happy place. The service was awesome and the food was great. Lunch was limited to a short list but add a few options to customize your meal. There's lots of drink options including alcoholic drinks. All you can eat rice and onion soup. A very comfortable place to eat.

I wanted to check out this new Japanese hamburger place that replaced a previous hamburger place (Chubbies). Totally different experience! This hamburger is thicker and juicier. It's served with a variety of sauces and rice, spaghetti, and cooked cabbage. You also get a cup of soup to start your meal. I liked the Japanese hamburger. It was very tasty with actual pieces of meat in the ground beef. You also don't really need sauce but its nice to have on the side. All in all a good meal, very good and satisfying. The service was excellent, very responsive and attentive. The environment is very casual and comfortable. There were a lot of families in here the night we had dinner. Lots of parking in the paid lot or on the street. The metered parking is free after 6 pm and its always nice to walk around Kaimuki.

Parking: Kaimuki Municipal lot. Location: Across Kumon. Ambiance: open concept trendy diner Service: Outstanding Japanese service. Grateful that they accommodated three of us at 2:05 pm near closing. Recommend they stay open at bit later (3:00) on Sundays, since many places nearby close at 2:00 as well. Food: Hamburg Japanese style! Love the homemade burgers. I highly recommend giving this place a try. We will be back for happy hour.

Finally went to check out Marujuu in Kaimuki. The meter lot that is closest to marujuu was filled so we ended up parking across the street in the pay lot. The hamburger was super juicy and moist, we tried two different sauces since it comes on the side and quite a bit you can share. We got the onion and the ponzu, really liked the onion one! Each set comes with hot onion soup which is light and delicious! The chicken was also really good. Each plate comes with some noodles and veggies and a side of rice, if you want to get a salad it's an upgrade fee. They also give you free soft serve for filling out a review. The best part was the service! Their servers are awesome at explaining the menu, serving the food and checking on how you're liking the meal. The hot plates are made fresh so they ask for patience but it didn't take long to come out:

Very friendly service!!! You have 3 choices: hamburger, chicken and wagyu steak . . You get toppings, veggies, pasta and rice

Feeling beefy... This is the place for that as not only they have hamburger steak but Wagyu Beef Steak as well, either way it's all create your own between six types of sauces and all comes with veggies, pasta and rice or salad but what you're able to do is bougie it up with additional toppings from sunny side egg, bacon to cheese. Walking in to the former Chubbie's location it's totally transformed with various anime posters covering the walls and a whole counter that takes majority the middle of the restaurant with booth surrounding it all is a unique layout. Dining with Nadine and Daniel as we walked in the staff all greeted us with "irasshai" and seated us was nice to see that they have pitchers of water and cups on each table just like in Japan is nice but after glancing at the menu we decided to get one of each different sauces to try (Signature Onion Sauce, Fresh Ginger Shoyu Garlic Glaze, Grated Daikon Ponzu). I expected to like the Grated Daikon Ponzu since that what I grew up which was still very good but liked the Signature on this visit but it's nice to have options and it all was good but my only disappointment is that it wasn't really hot and knew it all precooked and kept warm the veggies was cabbage and sprouts is a great combination was nice and filling, great presentation and loved the was you can make it your own. Thank you!

The Japanese-style hamburger steak was juicy and delicious, and the kids had so much fun making their own pineapple soft serve too!

Sizzling, hot, and very delightful. I was so lucky to have walked in without any wait! My boyfriend and I decided to get dinner in Kaimuki a few weeks ago and we had the opportunity to walk into Marujuu. We were serviced very quickly and sat at the counter. I had the classic sized hamburger steak with Gorgonzola cheese sauce and my boyfriend had the larger sized hamburger steak with the onion sauce. My boyfriend who is normally not a fan of blue cheese really enjoyed the Gorgonzola sauce on my portion. There was a bit of a wait as each portion is made to order, but it was well worth it. Each plate came out hot and sizzling. But if you're bored while waiting for your food, there are numerous TV screens and anime/manga paraphernalia that you can look at on the walls. The plates are a cross between the Japanese hamburger steak and American diner food style. The hamburger steaks come with a small portion of pasta, some hot veggies, and a side of white rice. I highly recommend upgrading to an additional sauce to change up the flavor profile of the hamburger steak. Overall, it was fantastic and I'm excited for the next time I can dine in again! Bonus, they have a self serve Soft Serve machine. Thought it was a bit pricey, but I assume if you can get the swirls right you can build yourself a fairly large cone.

Many people have been recommending this place so came to try their food! The sign says something like "please be patient, serving may take a little while due to all food are made to order" which we've experienced too. Wagyu steak was pretty good and onion sauce went well with steak!

Been on my radar for a while so finally tonight took my nephew for dinner . Parking is available at the municipal parking lot behind the restaurant metered parking . Or across the street you can pay at the kiosk card only . Hamburger steak Japanese style step 1 choose your size with small 7oz or large size 10oz. Luckily I ordered the small because it was just right . 2 step choose your flavor from Demi glaze , Daikon Ponzu, onion sauce , Ginger shoyu garlic , Gorgonzola cheese sauce and Bbq pineapple. 3 step choose your topping like onion, grilled bacon, fried egg, garlic chips. 4th step choose grilled vegetables, 5th step choose pasta size 6th step rice or salad Than time to grind remember they prepare every meal made to order so there's a signage saying please be patient it could take some time . Yes our order took at least 20mins but it's well worth it . Their hamburger patty is made from scratch and it was very soft and moist with lots of flavor. Next time I'll try their Chicken steak or their Wagyu beef something different. Support local

Had lunch at Marujuu in Kaimuki today. Loved all the anime posters on the walls. Service was really good. They give you a complimentary onion beef soup, which was lovely. Shared the nori something fries (was okay). Got the regular hamburg on sizzing platter with a ginger garlic shoyu sauce. I enjoyed it but hoping for more sizzle if I go back. We think our sizzling plates were not as hot as it should have been cos the sizzle totally fizzled out super fast. Other tables seemed to sizzle a lot longer. The hamburg didn't have a nice sear. Thick bacon was yum! The iced green tea was lovely. This is just being a little nitpicky, but I think I would've preferred the greens next to the Hamburg instead of the spaghetti. When I poured my sauce over the hamburg, it spilled over onto the spaghetti. The sauce I chose didn't work with the tomato flavor. It would've been really good with the veggies.

This very much pleases my pescatarian preferences. I can enjoy every bite of the bento without having to pass a piece of chicken or beef to the hubby. And, I enjoy every bite down to the last kernel of multigrain rice. So far (because we're still working our way through the menu), we've enjoyed the noriben bento and the butterfish bentos (more than once). Both are worthy of a dine-in restaurant. The high-quality rice (trust me, you can tell) is a perfectly-cooked pillow for the assortment of bento toppings. They offer both white and multigrain rice. Hubby likes white. I enjoy the pleasant nutty, sweetness of the multigrain. The noriben bento includes a piece of salmon, ahi katsu, and a tempura-furikake fish cake. A generous portion of shredded nori covers the rice and an assortment of pickled veggies compliments the sweet corn. Not only is this bento pretty, it is amazingly balanced in taste and texture. A feast for the eyes and the palate! But, the butterfish bento is the real showstopper. A very generous serving of carefully sliced, richly marinated butterfish tops your choice of rice. The hubby said it's probably the BEST butterfish he's ever had. And, I totally agree with him! Because of the way they slice the fish, the marinade saturates the filets and then it's grilled so the sauce caramelizes just enough to give a sweet and smoky flavor. SO ONO! Like I mentioned, the shop is small but if you get there early, it's full of bentos (fish, chicken, katsu pork, and hamburger steak), assorted musubis and inari, as well as sushi cups. They even offer desserts by Malu Honolulu. What a great collab! Every nook and cranny of this little shop is full of food prepared with thought and care. Only three people are allowed in the shop at a time, so there is sometimes a line outside. Don't worry! It goes fast, and it's SO WORTH the wait. Not surprisingly, they sell out. But if you don't think you're going to make it there early, you can call to order and schedule a pick up. Service is always very friendly and accommodating. Higoto is located on the first floor of Kaimuki Shopping Center on Waialae Avenue (by Times Supermarket next to Sacred Hearts). Parking is free and ample. Really, there is NO good reason to not give Higoto Japanese Eatery a try. You definitely won't be disappointed.

I parked in the residential area for free and walked a couple of blocks to the restaurant. Service was very polite and efficient. The interior was cozy and seemed authentic. Initially I intended to order to go, but after I paid (it's credit card only - no cash), she asked if this was takeout or eat-in. I changed my mind and said I would eat there. There were no other customers at the time, so I sat at one of the tables. Within what seemed like a couple of minutes, she brought over a glass of water and the food to my table. When I paid, I didn't factor in table service, so, feeling bad, I look through my wallet but only had two dollar bills and the rest were larger. I got a five out and asked the server if I could get change. She replied that she was sorry they didn't have change. My mistake, at that moment, I had forgotten about the no cash policy. Back to the meal, the hamburgers appeared to be two fair-sized meatballs. They had been stewed in their version of demi-glace sauce. There was a small portion of what looked like potato salad, some edamame, and a vegetable salad with a vinegary dressing. I couldn't easily make out the rest of the ingredients in the list. To my taste, the meal was fairly good. Before leaving, I cleared my table of the plastic fork and disposable chopsticks. No one was at the counter, so I placed the empty plate and glass of water near the counter with the small bills - my way of apologizing for my lack of change.

3/15/26 Got treated for my birthday today by my wife "Arigatou!"…read more This was our third time here the 1st being their grand opening day 3 years ago Definitely not our last visit Chef n server are from Japan I wish I could speak Japanese but we had a great time trying to converse in broken Japanese n English Besides, we were the only ones there for almost an hour, so we had all their attention That made for another great experience! The 19 course omakase featured so many fresh seafoods, tempura, miso soup, dessert... Way better than alot of other omakases in town For your last morsel you get to pick anything you ate earlier n have it again Could have gone w Fatty Otoro or Popping Fresh Ikura but chose Ama Ebi Why? Because it was so Juicy Sweet n only in season now!

Incredible experience celebrating my parent's 40th wedding anniversary…read more Call ahead to make reservations - we sat at the private table not at the chef counter. The space was clean and had a more upscale feel. Did the 19-course omakase and each bite was incredible. The fish is fresh from Japan, and you can see and feel the attention to detail. My parents do not like "fancy" experiences (they've dined at 3 Michelins but prefer a more laid back experience), and this place struck the right balance. It's upscale but also familiar. Favorite bite was the chutoro and second favorite was the chawanmushi :) That chilled clam soup was something else - I wish I could have a whole bowl of that! Definitely make an effort to check them out!

The sauce they use for the katsu is a familiar taste; they use bull-dog sauce. The dressing tastes like the dressing from Sams Club. I don't remember it being this way. Maybe they changed? I feel like Koromo and Tamafuji are better. I guess maybe this place is considered a take out spot? It's pretty much serve yourself water, bottle drinks only and order at the counter. The place is clean and wasn't busy. You're most likely going to have to get street parking or go to the paid parking area and walk around a little bit. If you want an OK katsu place, I guess this is the place.
