On a weekday at lunch, getting there at 10:45, only 15 minutes before opening, gets you front of the line. Once they opened, you get the familiar Japanese welcome then they quickly get you seated either at the counter or in a booth. Facilities are clean, neat, and still very new. It is a nice and bright dining area with a clear view of the open kitchen. The decor is Demon Slayer vibe with a Pokémon video playing on the video monitor. The workers are all neatly dressed and polite as far as I observed. Once seated, the 2 that were dedicated to waiting the tables were very attentive to the guests. The host and beverage preparer seamlessly added coverage as needed to expedite service. I was the first to order at 11:03, getting the large Hamburg with normal fixings, but opted for the demi glacé at an additional $1. Worth it! The pace of preparation is probably normally going to be 25 to 30 minutes from order to getting your order. Drinks come very quickly after ordering though. They also give a small cup of onion soup which was delicious. I tried the Hamburg Steak plain initially. It was delicious without the sauce. I quickly tried with the sauce and it was even more delicious. I spooned sauce on each individually cut piece of the Hamburg Steak, and there was enough sauce for each bite. Nothing worse than not enough sauce. I ordered the large serving and it was enough to feel like a large, but I'm sure local braddahs might say it could be bigger. The vegetables that were included were sautéed cabbage and sprouts, and the pasta was lightly tomato sauced pasta noodles. Both were in quantities of about a healthy twirl of a spaghetti on a fork, definitely meant to be more of a visual garnish than a serving, but enough to vary the flavors in your mouth. The plateful of white rice was typical good quality rice that is perfect with the Hamburg Steak sauce. I probably should have added the sunny side egg option for under $2. The runny yolk would have made for a thicker mouthfeel. Just the demi glacé was ok, not runny, but not substantial like gravy. I personally like thicker sauces, so that is completely my preference. This was a fine meal that is worthy of being served in Japan. I will definitely come back perhaps monthly, which is a frequency reserved for good grub. This is not cheap though, yet I think it is worth it. If I were in a group of 4, I'd grab a booth table, and have everyone get a different sauce so we could all share and taste them all. read more

Do not like cold food. The hambug came out on a sizzling platter(so that was hot) but the sauce was refrigerator cold. The rice served on a plate was not steaming hot...looks like it was plated and just sitting. The hamburger mixed with pork was okay. Service was friendly and accommodating. Came with the family and to kill time, we played on the classic pac-man machine while waiting for our table. What fun memories of pac-man I had, sharing my advice to my son. In any event, our table was ready before we could finish the game, oh well! The service staff was friendly, it reminded us as if we were in Japan. Very polite and helpful. The prices were a little high, however, I'm thinking that they are keeping up with all the increased food costs and started this high so they wouldn't have to increase the prices slowly, we will keep our fingers crossed. Although, each order is custom made, you will need to be patient as it does take time for your hamburg to come out. Nice, delicious ground beef patty that had a mixture of spaghetti noodles, small round potatoes, small carrot, hamburg patty and a nice rich gravy/demi glaze, depending on what you order. White rice is served on the side. You also get a small cup of beef soup with your meal. The fries were nice and crispy, however, the price did seem high for the portion. parking - plenty of lots nearby! lot directly connected to it is metered, so standard metering rules would be free after 6pm + sundays & holidays. we couldn't find a parking sign that said it but that's what we assumed. there's also a parking lot across the road where happy days/magoos is, i believe it's .75 per hour over there! atmosphere - very cute inside! lots of anime posters and had pokemon playing on the tv, as well as a lot of anime intros playing on the speakers. smaller space with tables that seat 4, could potentially booth seat 6 if you squeeze, or 8 if tables got pushed together. also had bar seating as well staff - staff were very attentive and kind! and willing to explain the menu/ordering process. they had great service and checked in very regularly order - my boyfriend and i shared the nori cheese fries, which was super good! all entree orders come with protein, sauce, add ons (for extra $), veggies, red pasta, onion soup, and rice. i got the hamburger with gorgonzola sauce, adding an egg, and subbed the veggies for extra rice serving size - pretty sizable! i wasn't able to finish my food although i usually only finish 75% of meals. this time i'd say i only got through 60% of it, and my boyfriend was pretty stuffed by the end. we wanted to get some soft serve but we couldn't stomach it quality - i thought the food was pretty good! i'd be willing to come here again, but i wouldn't be the one to suggest it. this is a personal preference! please note that i have the palette of a child who only likes salt. i think it's worth a try for anyone who hasn't gone~ cost - each entree was $20-30 depending on what protein you pick for your meal. i don't remember the price of appetizer, sorry! overall a good experience! unfortunately had to dock a star because at the end of our meal i found a baby roach in my onion soup i don't remember seeing it during the meal so i'm hoping it fell or crawled in, but obviously was quite upsetting and yucked me out.... hopefully was a one time occurrence! read more

I've tried Marajuu on two separate occasions & both times were pleasant experiences. Both times I went with a friend when they opened at 11 so we were seated right away. The staff is very friendly & helpful if you have any questions about their menu items. I tried the regular hamburger steak with the demi glaze sauce (costs an added $1), their most popular sauce & the second time around the grated daikon ponzu sauce (no extra charge)...both were delicious!!! The meal also comes with an onion soup appetizer which was ono & the hamburger itself comes with pasta & veggies. You can also add on extras to the burger like sunny side up egg, bacon, grilled onion & others for an extra charge. Both times I added the sunny side up egg & on one visit the grilled onion as well. Next time I think I will try the grilled bacon. The meals were delicious & filling...the order comes out pretty quickly. The atmosphere is very laid back & the staff as previously mentioned is friendly & helpful. Parking is in the metered parking lot in the back so depending on when you go parking can be a challenge. If you fill out a review by using a qr code, you get free soft serve as your thank you. I was also told on my last visit that if you bring your receipt back the next time you go, you can play the claw machine to try to win a prize. I like the onion sauce. It's tasty and pairs really well with the meat. Without it, the meat doesn't have much flavor on its own. The portions are small, and the veggies and pasta are even smaller. I get that smaller portions can be Japanese style, but the prices are definitely Hawaiian level. The rice portion is generous, however, it wasn't cooked well, some of it was soggy and overly sticky. Be prepared to wait, as it took about 20 minutes for the food to come out. Service was okay. I'm not sure if I'll return, as the portion isn't enough even for someone with a small appetite like me. read more

I almost feel like I need to rate them twice, for the food a solid 5 out of 5, we got the karage appetizer with their signature onion sauce, a Hamburg with the daikon ponzu sauce, and the wagyu steak with wasabi shoyu. Everything was fantastic, very happy. As far as service and vibe? As a Gen x nerd, also 5 out of 5. The staff was super friendly and attentive, the wall decor is very popular anime themed, the tables and booths were very nice. As I was looking at the menu I heard the familiar "Banbarabanbanban Banbarabanbanban" of the old Gorenger theme song start playing and my head whipped up so fast, the server came over to see if anything was wrong. We got here with kids...come here early with kids cuz their hours be lying closing an hour early don't be fooled by their Pac-Man game and ice cream. We went when they opened at 11am, we were about the 4th party in line. We were seated, our server was amazing. He went over the menu, and gave us his recommendations. We were walking to another restaurant for our anniversary and we found this place. This place turned out to be a perfect place for a nice family dinner. The booth was great for my young boys. We loved all the anime posters and made a game out of figuring out the anime songs on their playlist. The servers were all so friendly, and food came out quickly and cooked to perfection. Japanese style hamburger, and steak came with your choice of wonderful sauces. We went with the classic demi glaze and an onion sauce. Everything from the fries, side veggies, side pasta, and meats were all so delicious. To end the meal they have soft serve ice cream. Lately we have been trying restaurants on the island that we have not tried. Recently, we headed out to Kaimuki to check out Marujuu as I was craving hamburger steak for a late lunch. We arrived and were greeted with friendly faces then promptly seated at a table. Our server was very nice and provided some of her own personal recommendations as this was our first time there. I ordered a large Hamburg with Signature Onion Sauce, over easy egg, with pasta, side of rice, and had to also try the Nori fries. Our server placed the order and notified us that the food is made to order so there would be a little wait. In the meantime, she made sure we had drinks and brought out the nori fries and small cup of soup to start. We enjoyed the fries as they were crispy, skinnier cut, and the nori sauce was savory. The wait for the Hamburg was short and we dived into the plate. The meat was moist, egg was cooked medium as the yolk was firm with a little bit of run, onion sauce was tasty, and pasta was a good carb to accompany the protein. We enjoyed the meal and especially appreciated the attentive, polite, and friendly table side service we received. The service was a team effort encompassing the kitchen/chefs/back of the house and the point of contact front which included servers/order management/cashier. The establishment definitely exuded a Japanese vibe with the bright yellow painted exterior, comfortable booths, tables, counter seating, cleanliness, anime themed/tv, bilingual staff, high level of hospitality, and decor.
