We ordered the bratwurst, German soup, and escargot (from France) to start. All of them were fabulous but the escargot was especially fabulous. This restaurant was recommended to us by our hotel concierge. It was absolutely amazing. We had the lamb chops and the sea scallops florentine to start. For our meal we had the filet mignon and the ribeye along with the asparagus and mashed potatoes. The steaks were cooked to perfection. This was absolutely one of the best meals we've ever had. I have been coming to Martins for years as a local who likes good food and nice wine. Have been a loyal customer even during the hard times. As I told all my friends- "the best happy hour in town." Good food and good drinks 50% off tapas menu. I have had birthday parties there, brought guests and family and met up with friends many times there. It has always been a nice stop before evening festivities until tonight. I will not go back. I will NEVER go back. They have recently had a huge staff upheaval and have been left with the worst servers. Got there at 4;00 on the dot. Waited in line for the doors to open..but did not get our main food until 5;45.!!! It was a huge clustermess. Then when the check cane finally it was $100 more than it should've been. I was already agitated bc we had wanted to be out of there at 5;30 and it was 45 minutes later. When I told the waiter exactly what was wrong with our menu he said that our check must have been merged with the table next to us. After a few minutes I went to the terminal go make sure he knew what we had ordered and he snipped at me "I would do this much faster if you didn't hover!!". With a nasty snarl. Loved the ambience, food, and service! We had reservations, but arrived early. They sat us right away at a nice table on the patio. Our server was helpful in explaining the happy hour. Hubby and I each had a martini (very well made!) for $4.75! What a deal! Looking at Yelp, we ordered the brie to share. I ordered bread too, which helped to eat the brie. It was a good choice. There were so many other great options, I wish I could have tried more... but I wanted to save room for dinner. Hubby had wienerschnitzel for dinner. I had Yellowtail with a bearnaise sauce. Suggesting the most expensive meal on the menu, then when we ordered Aps he tried to get us to order two shrimps opposed to one. Where is for bad was my boyfriend asked for a GLASS of wine. The waiter then brings our wine glasses back as if he was bringing a bottle. Well sure enough he brings out a bottle and opens it. We said we just ordered a glass. He stands in his tracks and goes "oh". Runs away. Then the manager comes out. All accusatory and says. You guys just ordered a bottle of wine which was 500 dollars. At first you tried to order one that was 1,000! Excuse me? He ordered a glass! A 15 dollar glass... I then got upset and asked to speak to the manager outside. Where do I start! We called the restaurant prior to our arrival, questioning their corkage fee. After a discussion of the corkage fee price the manager who was extremely rude and hung up on me. We arrived early (5:30pm) to enjoy the happy hour which runs from 4pm to 6pm (as stated on their website). We stated we had reservations at 6:30 however, would like to enjoy the hour hour, the hostess proceeded to sit us at our table. Once situated and all seated we wanted to order drinks at the happy hour prices. To our surprise the hostess told us happy hour ended early and could not honor the prices! . We ordered drinks and appetizers anyway. After the apps and drinks arrived the waitress did not follow up with us until we had to call her over. We finally ordered dinner, during this time no one came to clear the table of dirty plates and finished drinks. A busboy appeared and only cleared half the table. However, the topper was the entire time we were seated flies were swarming around us. Landing on the food and buzzing around our heads. We informed the waitress without any recourse. On a positive note the food was good. We approached the manager to introduce ourselves and explained how inappropriate he handled our earlier conversation regarding their corkage fee. He stated it was bad timing and should not have handled the conversation the way he did (passive aggressive personality) and said he would give our table complimentary chocolate and a glass of champagne each. We all appreciated his effort however did not improve our dining experience at Martin's. In a nutshell, service was horrible especially at the prices they are asking. We would have cancelled our reservation after our initial phone call with the manger however their policy states that your credit card would be charged $25 per person if the reservation is cancelled less then 24 hours. Beware of this place! The management of this restaurant needs a lot of improvements and should focus on customer service! read more

We just dined at Martin's in Key west ... for our Valentines dinner. We had reservations for 8:30pm arrived on time.. but were not sitted till quite late.. There were two other couples with us.. we were told there was a party just finishing off!! We waited patiently for another 20 mins. Couldn't wait any longer so One of the member from our party made it known that this was not right and complained. I guess the manager got to hear our complaint and offered us a round of drinks which we accepted ...this was very nice off them.. we continued to wait outside as the restaurant was very busy.. finally we were seated and Tipp took care off us. Tipp apologized repeatedly.. finally took our order. The food arrived and we were pleasantly surprised it was amazing!! from start to finish despite the long wait. I had the steak this dish was excellent too including sides. Key lime brûlée Dessert was wow!! Overall the long wait was a bit too much for us!! We weren't looking for any free food but the restaurant comped us the drinks and all the coffee a good gesture indeed!! But Martins is a good place to dine. Our server was great, she was ready to serve us more whenever our glasses got low, bless her. If you like sweeter martinis, they have a terrific selection of those. I prefer not sweet ones, but I still worked it out with no problem. We sat in the darling back patio, but next time, we will sit at the bar so that people who want to eat can have those better tables. Just had a wonderful dinner here. I'm originally from Germany so I was apprehensive but it didn't disappoint. The fish meunière was stellar. The jaegerschnitzel was phenomenal, the spaetzle was delicious with a hint of nutmeg which I thought was a great twist. The Waldorf salad was so fresh and had a great citrus kick complementing the creamy mushroom sauce that came with the schnitzel. What a find! On our last night in Key West, (3/2/22), we were driving around looking for a good early dinner/happy hour spot. Going past Martins, (which we knew nothing about), we saw a good line of 20 or 30 people waiting for them to open the door at 4:00. We knew it had to be good so we turned the car around and got inline. It was better than good. Martin's is a great little "hole in the wall" place. Cool comfy bar area, nice outdoor Bistro seating in the back, and several good upfront tables for open-air people watching. Martins has the best Happy Hour for food and drink in Key West that we could find. They have a really good Tapas Menu, and all of them, plus well drinks are 50% off during happy hour. Our group of four must have had more than a dozen tapas. Every one was sensational and even a bit unique in their preparation. Our group wasn't "lamb chop" people, but after one order of them we ordered two more sets! The best I've ever had. They also have very unique drinks, and the best Olde Fashions we've had anywhere. Over the course of two hours more all those Tapas and many drinks were brought to us by one of the best waiters I've experienced in a very long time. His name is Jovan, ("yo-van"). Jovan's service was timely, polite, and engaging; He was extremely knowledgeable about each of the dishes and their preparation, and he had a great knowledge of the different bourbons available for the olde fashions. His personal presentation and attitude was warm and professional. I keep harping on how good he was, because, come to find out, it was Jovan's first day. We were all blown away by hearing this. Martin's provided the perfect venue for our July 4th dinner plans after spending a few days vacationing in southern Florida and knowing what a few more days vacationing in the Keys would bring. Key West is not known as the fine dining destination of the south although with a little planning there are a few hidden gems amongst the bars and touristy attractions that can provide a more normal dining experience and Martin's is certainly one of those places. We arrived a little before 9 PM and found the restaurant mostly filled, but we were able to get seated without a wait. We were greeted by Patrick our server who provided outstanding service from start to finish which can sometimes be a little rare in this land of total relaxation. We were in the mood for a more upscale dining experience but didn't want to dress for one being the temperatures here this time of the year tend to stay in the mid to upper nineties with matching humidity so flip flops and island wear is normal and acceptable. After drinking our share of frozen concoctions all day while enjoying the best of Key West we both decided to hydrate during dinner and resume the alcoholic options after dinner so the freshly brewed unsweetened iced tea provided both of us one of life's essentials. I was craving beef so the temptation of a medium rare dry aged ribeye made the choice easy for me, not only was it a flavorful tender cut of well marbled beef it was perfectly cooked, the sides are usually never a big part of a memorable dinner for me but the potato / carrot purée was ok and the steamed broccoli was actually something I enjoyed as well. Since we always intentionally order different entrées so we can both experience a variety of what any restaurant features I was very happy to see the nice portion of fresh caught grilled grouper seating directly across the table from me - this local catch was topped with a very well done fresh crab imperial sitting on a tender serving of sautéed asparagus with a potato puff, this combined with the ribeye provided exactly what we were craving, a perfect surf and turf experience in a dimly lit classic restaurant. We stood in line prior to the restaurant's opening at 4pm - a good indication that there is something special about the restaurant. The potato soup had an excellent texture, but there was no flavor. The Jäger schnitzel was excellently prepared with great breading and it was very tender. Again, the flavor was non-existent. We went back again for happy hour the following night... maybe different cook, better flavor? We ordered potato soup, tropical Waldorf salad and schnitzel strips. Our waiter was nice, but seemed to have some weird OCD thing about where things were on the table - he even picked up my cell phone and moved it; rearranged my bread and water glass every time he came to the table. Potato soup still lacked flavor. No salt or pepper on the table to augment. Waldorf salad was well-prepared, as was the schnitzel. The remoulade for the schnitzel was excellent. The thing that spoiled the whole experience came when the waiter told us we could not get a to-go box for the leftover schnitzel that we didn't finish. We paid for the food, but couldn't take the two strips left, because the manager got pissed off and bitched out the server for allowing guests to take to-go boxes for happy hour. If you don't want people to take away happy hour food, post it - or don't even offer it. We would have gone back - and probably even have paid the outrageous à la carte prices, but no. Never again. I don't need to be treated like I'm trash because I happened to take advantage of happy hour pricing. read more
