I know they don't take reservations but had called the afternoon before to give them a heads up that we'd have a party of 9 on Saturday- that persons really didn't care. We arrived at 5:15. Not many ppl there in the restaurant . They sat us at the smallest grouping of tables they had. Several 2 toppers put together. It was uncomfortably crowded and we were up close against the wall. We waited a bit for a server- when he did come he didn't know the answers to a couple of questions (kinds of scotch, beer on tap) and wasn't interested in finding out for us. So 2 of our folks went to the bar to find out - no luck. After a couple of minutes- they came back to the table without any more info. The bartender never acknowledged them. Got a 16 inch pizza, it was $44. The most expensive mediocre pizza I've ever received. On half the pizza we got four ingredients or so on the other half was extra cheese and pepperoni, not impressed with the extra cheese, or the taste of the pizza. One of the better Italian spots in Kzoo that I somehow had never been to until this week. We sat out on the patio, which was a lovely experience although it can be a little loud being right off westnedge. The service is a little different; they seat you like a normal restaurant but then tell you to order from the bar. Then they bring the food and drinks out that you ordered. We got the house salad, the garlic bread, and a pizza. Everything was delicious. The crust is my favorite part, so I can't wait to go back and try the focaccia. We aren't going to return. After being seated at 4:30 pm in a practically empty restaurant, we decided to ask the bearded bartender some questions about beer selection because every time we visit, the servers are clueless about beer. We were told to "sit down at your table. Your server can help you with that". Yeah right. Sorry to bother you with so much work in an empty restaurant. The server had to go to the bar after each question about every beer question. We started to laugh. What a joke. I would say the food always made up for the rude bartender, but the Italian beef I ordered was the smallest Italian beef I've ever bought in my life. My wife ordered a focaccia. Love that my friend Jose introduced this place to me, it has what looks to be a well-stocked bar and a lovely cafe feel with inside and outside seating. Have you ever had a dinner so delicious that you wonder if you imagined the entire experience? I was visiting Kalamazoo and I wanted a nice meal from a non-chain restaurant and decided to stop by. The Google reviews were better than here but I could tell by the photos of this place that it had a lot of charm. I was sold. I sat at the bar and EVERY single one of the ladies greeted me, waited on me, and honestly took the best care of me. What I also noticed, were key personnel in the restaurant, even when they step behind the bar to grab something, if they made eye contact with me, they smiled, nodded their head and spoke. I decided on the lasagna and salad. I had the bartender pick up Cabernet for me. My lasagna came I was starved, and when I took my first bite into it, I paused; I stared at the bartender who was awaiting my response and I asked her one question"is this real?" the wine she paired my meal with complemented the lasagna perfectly. Their food was so damn delicious,It didn't even make sense. The garlic bread was infused with garlic beyond what I'm used to. What I mean to say is that I can cook with copious amounts of garlic so for me to think that something is garlicky, takes a lot. They did it, but it was absolutely delicious. The lasagna in addition to being delicious is put on a plate and has sauce all around it and is the most spectacular thing. The only thing that could've made that meal better is if there weren't other people around to watch me obliterate my meal. I was so impressed that I got an order to go . I added the minestrone soup instead of salad this time because I had a sneaking suspicion that it was probably as delicious as everything else I ate. I'm home now, and I just ate that soup, and put a little bit of fresh Parmesan cheese on top of it, and heated the garlic bread in the oven, and I am completely blown away. my lasagna is in the freezer and I'm going to have it next weekend as beef short ribs are on the menu for tonight and since I want to still be able to fit my clothes, I had to decide which I was going to eat. I don't live in the area, but I will be more than happy to drive to this restaurant from the metro Detroit area after having fasted all day so that I can enjoy every single bite of that lasagna. I wasn't a big fan of the pizza, which I tried before I left, yes, I was being greedy. But I'm guessing the rest of the food if it stacks up to the lasagna is the best you'll ever have. Arrived around 5:00 and requested seating for 8 for a birthday dinner. The "hostess" was rude and told us the best she could do was using one round table and a square 4 top, implying that we could slide them together. It wasn't what we wanted but we would make it work. We began to slide the tables together for our group and the hostess told us we were "absolutely not allowed to move the tables" though there were other tables pushed together with seated guests. Very noisy environment, and you had to wait in line to order food and again to order drinks. Business model definitely not focused on customer service. Limited beer options - my first two selections were not available though they were listed on the menu. No waitstaff on hand, you have to place drink orders with the bartender and order food at the kitchen window. Servers then deliver food/drink to your table. The meatballs and garlic bread appetizers were delicious. Our pizzas were steaming hot and just as we ordered. Food was very good. Sadly we likely won't be returning. I called on Monday to make a reservation for a high school tennis team ahead of the state competition. This is a team bonding and celebration meal. I spoke to Lee and he was fantastic. When I said the coach wanted a more private space, as boys tend to get loud, he said we could be upstairs. Great! I immediately confirmed details with the coach. I just got off the phone with Rich, who was confirming the reservation details and said we were in the main dining room. When I relayed that Lee said we could be upstairs - something I wouldn't have thought of because I'm not that familiar with the place - Rich said "Lee has been here for ten years and would never open up the upstairs for 14 people". When I said "but he did", Rich said "have a nice day" and hung up on me. No one swore and yelled. Why be so rude to a customer? Our high school will never recommend that any of our teams try to book there again. As for me and my family, I will never consider Martini's based on how I was treated. On this visit I met a friend and we had drinks / we did not really look at the menu. There are many beers on tap and the staff are friendly and helpful. The patrons were sorta fancy for being so downtown. It was a good vibe. They have a parking lot off Westnedge but it's small so be prepared to find street parking unless you beat the after work rush. (I totally did and got a spot!) My friend paid the tab so I can't even speak to pricing but I assume it's similar to other bar prices in the area. They have amazing gardens and a walled off outdoor patio area. The neighborhood is Vine and it's nostalgic for me - I hope you enjoy your visit too. This is my brother's neighborhood hotspot and go to for large pizzas for the family. We always have to start off with their cheese bread. They love a good pepperoni pizza with the large house salad, we pass around the salad for some balance for the gluten, cheese and pepperoni. Took order from the backseat of our of car and almost immediately the bottom of bag ripped open and all the food was ruined. They only have the scan for the menu by using your phone. The bartender (Who took our order)informed us that we are not allowed to do that. No dressing on the side no specialty items on the side. I try not to complain or say anything else but it was disappointing, since my husband hates pineapple. We do not mind paying extra for any of this. I also asked for a side of extra dressing for my salad and they said they are not allowed to do that As we got our salad it came with a little bit of bread. I asked if there was any butter. The waitresses they are not allowed to serve butter with the bread Actually we weren't sure if she was a waitress. There is only two girls on the floor. Just cleaning tables. When I asked the girl how they make garlic butter toast she said they use butter. I asked her again if I could I have a little side of butter. She said there is no way impossible that she's able to give it to us because there's nothing they can put it in. After waiting nearly 45 minutes for the pizza. We decided to just take it home Cremated and additional 10 minutes more and finally have pizza came out A nice gentleman Handed us our pizza He repeated everything that was on the order. And I said yes everything besides my pineapples I really wanted it. He then said let me get those for you. He gave me a side of pineapples which made me extremely happy with no charge. I felt like you had to be your own waitstaff when you are there. The decor was very confusing The Stainglass windows are extremely beautiful. I've ordered the chicken salad takeout for years. Best salad anywhere. They use freshly cooked chicken breast, asiago cheese, garlic, roasted tomatoes & a bunch of other stuff topped with their special Italian dressing. It's enough for 2-3 people.
