The entrance is a little hard to see from the street ...

This is one of those stores that you should only frequent if you have a healthy dose of patience. I know that bargain shopping is an art, and that you have to go far & wide to find the items you crave at rock-bottom prices. Marshalls is well-known for such deals, and yet ... A lot of the items are 1) broken, 2) disorganized, or 3) missing parts. The Clearance racks of each section are guaranteed to have at least 2 of these qualities. Housewares has some great colored bins & pillows to nicely decorate your home. They also have a random, yet extensive, selection of kitchen utensils, bowls, & decorative accents. And then there's the food. Honestly, do people buy the dry foods at Marshalls? They look so generic & dry goods don't even have expiration dates on them. To each his own, I guess. The clothing section is intimidating, even after it's separated into several categories. I've found that the clearance racks are more disorderly than the regular racks -- which I know isn't the store's fault so much as the customers'. The workout gear section is a great place to get discounted hand weights, yoga mats, & medicine balls. However, the packages are a little beat up. Some of the boxes are ripped, or open, or missing a weight, etc. It's a bit of work to find exactly what you want, especially if it comes in a pair. And the last time I shopped there, the men's underwear section had several boxes open. Two underwear 3-packs were missing one undie each. I mean, someone really took underwear out of a $12 package? Really?!?! That is sad and more than a little disturbing. The checkout situation isn't much better. Most of the employees seem joyless & preoccupied with counting the minutes until their shift is over. Ehh, it is what it is. I still do come here to shop sometimes, but I feel like I lose my patience after about 20 minutes. Maybe you'll have better luck ...

I had the most incredible experience at Wander Atelier--it was actually the very first place I went…read morewedding dress shopping, and it completely set the bar. I initially came in specifically to try on designs from Alena Leena, a designer I had fallen in love with online. During my first visit, I worked with Nicole, the owner, who was so kind, patient, and genuinely supportive. As someone who didn't fully know what I wanted yet, I never felt rushed or pressured--she made the entire experience feel exciting and comfortable. Nicole suggested I come back for an Alena Leena trunk show, and I'm so grateful I did. At my second appointment, Angelica helped me and was an amazing listener--she really understood my vision and helped guide me without ever pushing me in a direction that didn't feel like "me." That visit turned out to be everything. I found my dream dress from the trunk show collection, but I also couldn't stop thinking about another dress I had fallen in love with during my first visit (which happened to be on sale!). I had always dreamed of having two dresses--one for the ceremony and one for the reception--but didn't think it would actually be possible within my budget. Thanks to the Wander team, it was possible. I walked out of that appointment with both of my dream Alena Leena dresses and a veil--all within budget. I truly can't thank the team at Wander Atelier enough. They made what could have been an overwhelming process feel effortless, special, and so personal. If you're even considering going, do it--you'll be in the best hands.

As a Brooklyn bride…read morewith a heart for Jersey, I was excited to check out this highly recommended bridal shop by one of my bridesmaids - who also found her wedding dress here! Enter Angelica, the badass sister/friend you always wanted and stylist extraordinaire. She had such a genuine, honest demeanor that made me feel comfortable and confident. She listened intently to my vision for my wedding day and was able to read between the lines to understand what I truly wanted, even when I was trying to play it cool. Angelica's keen eye and industry expertise were a game-changer. Her ability to know the dress I was meant to love before I even realized it - simply by pointing out the one I couldn't stop staring at - was a testament to her skills. My experience at Wander Atelier was nothing short of unforgettable. I cannot recommend it enough to any bride-to-be in search of her dream gown. The level of care and attention Angelica gave me was unparalleled, and I know that she'll do the same for every bride she works with.

We go to the jewelry section, ask to see the rings. The elderly lady behind the counter was super nice and cooperative. Unbeknownst to us, she was not suppose to let us see the entire tray of rings at a time, which she did. Then comes Tatyana (Russian/Eastern European lady) being rude, condescending, and unprofessional (to the staff and us, the customers) as she raises her voice at the elderly lady saying loudly: "One ring at a time, one ring at a time!" I responded and said that no one told us that and continued shopping. She then keeps walking around the store looking at us in an unpleasant manner. Then we go to check out and another kind elderly lady was there to check us out, but then comes Tatyana again to 'help' as the elderly lady wasn't moving at a pace that's appropriate according to Tatyana. I spent a bit over $60 and my friend a bit over $200. When we were done checking out, Tatyana starts clapping her hands to dismiss/shoo us away (like animals) from the counter while saying: "Okay ladies, okay ladies!" I reiterate, I have been shopping here for 18 years, but am not sure I can/will return to this store, as I have never been as demeaned in my life. I know that the people running the store are volunteers, but it is still a business, and the volunteers should be trained accordingly.

For about a solid decade my significant other and I used to shop at Harmon at least once a month…read more It was always fun checking out the neat little things in the travel section, picking up some soap that other shops did not have and picking up cleaning/laundry supplies at respectable prices. Of course, the other big draw was the use of the infamous Bed, Bath & Beyond "20% off" (and later, $50 off $25 purchase) coupons. We saved tons of money here and enjoyed the experience as well. Unfortunately, when its parent company Bed, Bath & Beyond faced financial troubles, Harmon stores were shut down. By February 26, 2023 they were all shuttered. In time, a private investor named Jonah Raskas would purchase the Harmon brand and begin to reopen a limited number of stores. This location is roughly a year old (according to the cashier). I was eager to visit it as the one being worked on closer to me in Garwood seems like it is not opening any time soon. I have to admit, going into Harmon really felt like going back in time. There was a lot that was familiar including walking in to see rows of baskets with small travel sized items. This led to an aisle with *more* travel sized items like squeeze bottles, small packs of hand wipes, small bottles of shampoo and more. The other side had snacks, making this a great aisle for impulse buying or planning a trip. As I went from aisle to aisle, they all definitely had the "feel" of Harmon from years ago. This store was incredibly clean, well organized and the shelves were very well stocked. The lighting was bright and I found everything about the store setting welcoming. That said, as I walked through the store I realized that the variety of items were not as expansive as the original Harmon stores. For example, in the men's body wash and soap area they had brands like Dial and Irish Spring, but they no longer carry brands like Cremo. Once upon a time I went to Harmon to get Cremo but now you can get it at places like Target. My guess is that in order to survive these stores have to carry the brands that sell a good volume and more "special" brands wind up getting left by the wayside. Perhaps in time they will come back. As you check out, you go through a lane of impulse buy items, mostly snacks and that really brought back memories! Overall I really enjoyed going back in time and visiting Harmon again. Abit of the magic is gone, but if I lived nearby I'd be dropping by again.
