I was just in this shop…read morethis afternoon, after running errands in a lovely Brooklyn neighborhood with generally great service. I decided to walk in this place because it's new, to me at least, and something sparkly in the window caught my eye. BIG mistake. Although I was the only customer in the store, the two shopgirls (yes, I deliberately use "girls" because no sensible adult would act so unprofessionally) not only refused to say "hi" or welcome me, as I walked past them and smiled, they simply glared at me with utmost disdain. Don't know whether that's because, being a Saturday, I was dressed casually, or whether it's because I am a woman of color, not a size zero, or *gasp* in my 40s. Whatever the reason for their horrible attitude, it's unacceptable for any business. Their loss, though. I've spent a lot of my money over the year at nearby boutiques, one particularly because of their lovely salespeople. If this place keeps up with the unwelcoming attitude, I can't imagine it being successful, especially considering that the quality of the merchandise is relatively subpar and unremarkable.

When I first walked in, I went to the side of the store that has shoes and miscellaneous items. The floor in that section was noticeably dirty, and there was a damp smell in the air, which made me uncomfortable enough to move on quickly. The other side of the store was much better and had most of the clothing. They have a men's section and a women's section, along with racks labeled for certain brands. Some racks weren't labeled at all, so you really have to take your time and look through everything individually to find pieces that stand out to you. Toward the back of the women's side, there's a shoe area, plus a children's section, lingerie, and hosiery. There's definitely a lot to browse through if you're in the mood to hunt for deals. I ended up finding a T‑shirt, a top, some trouser socks, and a couple of men's ties. I didn't see a large amount that I personally wanted to purchase, but there were a few decent finds. The store attendant -- possibly the manager -- was extremely pleasant and gracious. They offered me 10% off my total since it was my first visit, which I really appreciated. Would I return? Possibly, but more for a few small pieces rather than a full shopping trip. It's the kind of store where you might find a gem if you're willing to sort through a lot of inventory.

I believe cheap Maggie's is a store where they purchase overstock products and sell them in their store for a discounted price. For example they had UGG shoes on sale for $59.99. I purchased a timberland belt for $17.99. My mother brought a three items and she was given a $10 discount on each item and she paid a total of $114.97 for three items. Overall, I'm assuming the prices are fair because they are cheaper than what you would purchase them for at the actual store that they come from. I saw items from stores like Lululemon, American Eagle, UGG, and Bloomingdale's. I feel like you could find some cute items here you just have to take the time to actually look through the racks. As for the sizing I felt like I saw a lot of smaller sizes. I saw some large sizes but not many XL. Also, I don't recall seeing any plus sizes.

The decor and layout really help to set the vibe and atmosphere. Second, the shop's playlist was one point -- the kind of music you listen to if you're ever home trying on clothes or when you're getting ready for a night out. Their selection is cool, trendy and fit better than I expected. I'm switching up my style this year so I tried on a few things I wouldn't normally try on and I loved seeing myself in something sexy and different and a little risqué even (not pictured ;)). The shop attendant made me feel welcome and comfortable and not pressured while shopping (which I really appreciate). I got a few trinkets for myself and will be back for more. Before talking about the shop itself, I will say that during my recent visit the staff was very nice (this included two young women and one older one - possibly the owner?). I overheard them having several conversations with customers and they all seemed very familiar and friendly. Of course, this is just my experience, so take that as you will. No. 165 (so named for the building number) is an absolutely adorable, comfortable and whimsical shop in Maplewood. They sell all sorts of items ranging from novelty items, candy, clothes, stationary, dish towels, purses, soaps and more. Everything in the shop is either meant to be charming, beautiful or tongue-in-cheek and I love that combination. Interestingly, I saw a note on the counter that indicated at some point last year this shop was going to close, but a strong reaction from the neighborhood helped the owner to change their mind and keep the shop open. What that meant on a practical level is that during my visit a lot of the shelves were definitely more bare than I think they would normally be. This decision is recent, so I am hoping that means in the next couple months the store will restock and have more to offer than it already has. I…read moream sorry to say that I had the most unpleasant bra fitting of my life in this shop and I left in tears. Literally when I left and said, I hope you have a nice day, the saleswoman said "I hope you don't!" We were alone in the shop. Who talks like this? Anyway, whatever is in her heart, that's on her. The only reason I can think of her being that angry was my breasts were too big to fit into any bras or swimsuits in her shop. When I'd called the day before to say I needed a fitting, the person I spoke with was so pleasant and cheerful and I could tell she knew her way atriums a tape measure. Sadly that lady was not on duty when I came in the next day! So for those who do not know, the way to fit someone in a bra is NOT to have them try on bras with far-too-small cup sizes in increasing sizes. If you are holding a tape measure please measure my chest as well as my rib cage. And if doing that makes you uncomfortable, please get out of the bra-fitting business.
