I hate it when I see someone else wearing "my" clothes, which often happens when I shop in a mall. They have a good selection of clothes that you aren't going to find everywhere and lots of great dresses. Although by no means inexpensive, the prices are what you would expect to pay for quality clothes. The sale rack can be a source of some serious finds! read more

I hate to slam a local business, believe me. But the owner of this business couldn't have been ruder to me. Or maybe she could have, but I'm not returning to find out. I followed all the strict rules at check out. I paid in cash for the sale item. I paid in cash for the item that wasn't on sale that was under $30. But the attitude emanating from behind the counter was worse than any I have ever encountered. Sure, the store's got a lovely stock of fun clothes and accessories, albeit all super overpriced. Equally lovely staff (who seemed a bit scared to work there in all honesty). But as far as the lady who barked rules at me while talking on the phone? Yeah, her I could do without. Even when I thanked her and wished her a good day, she just turned her back to me and continued to talk on the phone. Unreal. Please learn customer appreciation. Otherwise, we'll see your spot overtaken by another ho-hum chain like The Gap. Or better yet, maybe by a boutique that shows customers, CASH paying customers, some love. I've shopped here a couple times for my mom and have always been pleased with the options. Yes it's probably overpriced as others have said but I am comfortable paying more for something that seems far more unique than what you usually see today in the big box stores with zero personality. And I'm happy to support a local business. It's a bit disconcerting to read that others have felt the owner was rude but I don't believe I encountered her during either of my visits. Went shopping to Barbara Eclectic during the annual side walk sale in Montclair. By the cash register there was a sign that restricted credit card amount purchases to $30 or more. I asked if I could charge my purchase (it was for $25) , $5 less than the imposed minimum since I did not want to visit an ATM and pay a fee. The owner responded VERY LOUDLY that she has to pay a fee for credit card sales, therefore I should go and pay a fee to use an ATM. Her tone was rude and loud! Also, as a credit card merchant the minimum you can set is $10 not $30! Barbara - please check your credit card agreement! The Durbin Amendment to the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, the Federal Reserve now has the power to regulate the maximum/minimum purchase amount for credit card purchases. This limit is currently set at $10 or less. Merchants may require minimum purchase amounts on credit card transactions. The minimum purchase amount must not exceed $10 (or other amount as set by law), does not apply to transactions made with debit cards, and cannot differentiate on the basis of the issuer or payment card network." - Visa "MasterCard permits any U.S. merchant to set a minimum transaction amount (not to exceed USD 10 or any higher amount established by the Federal Reserve by regulation) to accept MasterCard cards that access a credit account. She finds things that look great, but also tells you not to buy if it doesn't work. I have been coming here for years. My first experience in this shop was great! They have a diverse selection of dresses and tops at a very reasonable price point. I was particularly drawn to their jewelry and bought a rally pretty pair of earrings which the sales girl helped me with. She was attentive but not overbearing. The selection of jewelry was beautiful with dressier crystal encrusted earrings and necklaces to more simple studs. They also carry shoes and bags.
