I really like visiting Marshall's to get my fix of cheap brand name clothing (even if it is mostly a scam - check out Adam Ruins Everything to learn more about Fast Fashion, but I digress). The tradeoff at Marshalls is that the selection is narrower, and the sizes aren't always consistent. To give an example, I recently found a pair of pants in a style I liked, but the closest sizes to my 36 that they had were 34 and 38. I bought those other sizes, but one was too small, the other too big, no sweet spot. Another pair in 34 fit me perfectly, and it's 36 was too big. So your mileage may vary, but when you're talking about pants for $20 I can't really complain.
I'm lucky to be able to find most of my work and casual clothes here, and often I don't even have to get things hemmed or tailored, which I can't always say for pants from places like H&M. They also have a pretty great selection of shoes, socks, underwear, and outerwear.
The returns policy is also really great across the whole TJX line of stores (Marshall's, Winners, HomeSense). You can get a full refund with receipt within 10 days (30 days if you're a member of the loyalty program), and anything beyond that time or without a receipt you can also get a full refund on a gift card that never expires. One thing to note is that this isn't exactly in perpetuity. They do prorate prices after a certain amount of time (like one year), so if you do come back without a bill after that long, you might not get the full value back, but if you do still have the bill, you're golden.
This Marshall's is pretty well sized, occupies two floors of the Rio Can building on the corner of John and Richmond, and has an elevator that you can use to get your shopping cart up and down. No shopping carts on the escalators please.
If you need a bigger store, there's the Winners on Portland and Queen, and the Marshall's at College Park. read more
