I was glad because there was a white dress I wanted to buy. I walked in, the saleslady who was sitting on the bench outside RAN after me. I looked around, saw a few pieces then I ask her for MY size. Her reply was: 1....thousand...2hundred... [ VERY SLOWLY] I wanted to introduce her face to my palm. But I contained myself. I'm NEVER going back there, I go downtown instead. The store confirmation had been sent to the wrong store, as if that were my fault. This woman continued to berate me, saying I should have waited until Tuesday for pickup, a day I cannot take off for shopping. She didn't apologize for her weird rudeness. I'm sadden by all the nasty reviews about the ladies working there. I guess you get what you deserve. Treat people with respect and honesty, and for the most part they will treat you well. I have seen nasty consignors and customers there.. asking for discounts (it's already a discount store... ), arguing about the store consignment policy and pricing, etc - so I can see why this can lead to trouble. On a personal level, I dealt with a few of their staffers, and they went over and beyond to find my unsold items after expiry date. There's a review about "the Asian girl" (as one of the reviewers calls her)... super nice, actually. She called me on my cell to let me know she found them and had them aside for me to pick up. As a consignor.. the usual policy is like everywhere else. 55-60% to the store is standard for the mid-range. You only get 50% for super high end items, usually priced over $500 or so in places like VSP, etc. Sure they have to be picky when selective their merchandise; their objective is to sell the stuff they take, not to clean up your closet of everything you bring. The stuff is ok; yes, some are overpriced and I wish they went on sale more often, but this is not staff's fault. It's also about what you see as value. If you expect a Value Village, this isn't it (thank goodness). I had times when I left with tons of scores, and times when I left empty handed. Frankly, few of us need anything for the most part so it's impulse shopping like any other clothing store... I wish the store looked a little more creative, but at the end of the day, Winners isn't any better. Again, be open minded and kind and you can have a great time scouring.. :)

Housed in a cute Victorian small-town cottage beside the Leslieville Pumps gas station/grub joint, the store is like a teleporter to that other side of Queen Street, that I wonder if I am even in my own neighbourhood anymore whenever I step inside. I guess it's a sign of the times in the east end, as much as it is an interesting addition to the Leslieville strip. I was forwarded a meme whilst contemplating this nonsense (because apparently no one else has yet, bloody hell), and on it, a satirical list of things purported to be signs your 'hood is gentrifying, including an "inexplicable general store." Inexplicable. General. Store. I guess that best explains Good Neighbour. True to form, the place is filled with all sorts of eclectic and stylish stuff of all random categories scattered everywhere, like greeting cards, clothes and outerwear, mugs, footwear, backpacks, cosmetics, stationery. It's sort of like a Drake General Store (or maybe even an Urban Outfitters), but with more emphasis on fashion and lifestyle goods... and less on random cheeky hipster gag gift kitsch. There's a small kids section tucked in the back by the fitting room stalls, with an assortment of dresses, toys, puzzles, and humourous books. The men's stuff upstairs kind of scares me with the quantity of soaps and toiletries for the discerning well-groomed hip man. The place itself is a marriage of curated hip(ster) tastes (oh wait, they even have a table of selected Drake General Store crap for sale), and Club Monaco chic. Thankfully like a good neighbour the folks here don't stink so much of that douchey we're-too-cool-for-thou attitude that many hipster businesses are known for--they instead stink of individual cheerful Queen West-esque personality and a level of helpfulness not normally seen in a more corporate fashion boutique. Pricey? Kinda expected that. What is not expected are the sale offers that do pop up time and time again. My sister claims she bought a pair of jeans here for less than what Hudson's Bay was charging for the same brand. But I usually end up with socks, or scarves, or cards.
