men's shoes

This is an interesting addition to the luxury end of the market. With CAD tanking and foreign transaction fees and duties while buying abroad one ought to be to shop locally. There are some great deals to be had on some of the items in store as some items (mainly leather goods) were a whopping 30% lower than buying them online in Canada without even a promo! I would suggest a comparison shopping strategy as opposed to impulse buys. I focused on the men's clothing and shoes area. Not much new in the clothing area if you are familiar with the old setup of the Bay store. There is an addition of higher end shoes which is great. However the selection is very limited (not surprising as if you want selection you should look online or shop abroad) The women's footwear selection looked extensive and was slammed. I guess time will tell whether this addition is welcome or not in Canada.

I visited on Saks' second day open to the public, on the Friday of their opening weekend in Toronto. I was so excited for this opening, and couldn't wait to stop by. On the product level, this place wins. Wonderful perfume brands I've only seen in Paris and very rarely in Canada, high ceilings, plush couches to try on luxury footwear, super clean, presentation and layout of product is very organized and appealing. I loved the look. On the service and staff level, they have a few things they need to work out. Staff are very green, very fresh, and many know very little about their products they're selling. Every single staff member had to go "check with the manager" each time we asked even the simplest of questions about the products. Even when asking about the price of certain items, staff had to go scurry off "to check with the manager" or to rustle through a pile of papers to check the price. Also, we went through the process of signing up for the Saks credit card, and the process took longer than 40 minutes because of the "volume their system was experiencing." Really inconvenient, and not impressive. Also, the checkout process when buying a pair of shoes was very constricting and disorganized. We were taken to a narrow back room/hallway of the shoe department to pay for a pair of shoes (I think it led into their storage room). There was very little space to stand around while you waited to pay for your product, very dim lighting, bags and ribbon were thrown about everywhere - I'm assuming the checkout space is temporary, because it was a really narrow, awkward space, it felt like we were paying for shoes at a flea market than a high-end department store. The kinks are understandable, but it almost seemed like they opened without getting the logistics down pat, or getting the staff trained to a T before opening. But, opening pains are normal. I'll certainly be back, and overall, I love the space, the look, and the products. If they can get a bit more organized, get their logistics figured out and staff trained, I think they'll do really well. Good luck to them!

The set-up of our brand new Saks actually reminded me of the Holts in Vancouver. The layout is nice and open with smaller, separate "boutiques" flanking either sides of the store, re: a Céline, Givenchy, YSL, section. Very surprised that I didn't see a Chanel or Louboutin section. Either I missed it, they're "Coming Soon", or they're just not coming period. I was in the area doing some showings and had some time to kill so I decided to check out the new store. From what I observed, Saks is definitely waaay better than Holt Renfrew because: 1. Their focus seems to be Customer Service. As opposed to the nose turned-up, "Do you need any help?" approach. I spent quite a lot of time in the fragrances department and 2 out of the 3 people I spoke to seemed to really know about that specific line that they were representing. I found them to be very friendly and knowledgeable. 2. Selection. Aside from the blatant lack of Chanel/Louboutin, the selection was much varied than Holts, even the Bloor location. No Michael Kors or other lower "mall brands" in sight! They even carried Proenza Schouler which I went into Holts looking for, only to discover that no one in Toronto has it. They also have NY fragrance line, La Labo which I haven't seen and many other fragrances that I haven't seen at Holts or elsewhere. I did a quick walk by men's shoe selection and brand and size-wise, I felt sorry for them. Women's shoe selection is much, much larger! 3. Loyalty program. Sounded good. Something about double the points on certain days, 10% off your first purchase, & points = Saks gift cards. Based on my experience, I was happy that Holts has some competition...as I think they were getting too complacent!

Awful customer service. Employees only want to sell in the area that they're stationed in. Very rude staff!

The other side of the wall had streetwear. There were a few stakeboards near the front but I wasn't sure if they were for sale. It turns out the target audience is mainly teenagers. Well this store is not for me. Out I go! But not before I get some info and photos for a review. I am a reviewer after all and I can't waste a store visit! The staff member was courteous and helpful. Prices are reasonable. There are so very many sneakers on display! There is even a game machine similar to those where you try to grab a plushie with a claw. In this version, you try to move a big key into a keyhole to receive a sneaker as a prize! This location opened on 2022-10-15. They have a second location in Vaughan. Review 2023-076

Despite the items being way more fashionable than at the outlets, they still had good sales mixed in with the new arrivals. They make you go looking for it though. They have a whole area where you can digitally customize t-shirts, sweatshirts, and hats with special Adidas designs, some unique to Toronto! Think raccoons and Canadian geese but in a more tasteful manner. There were digital kiosks where you can come up with the design. They can then press those designs onto your chosen items. They also have iron on badges if you want that look instead of the prints. I love that they had the Toronto exclusives. On my travels to Tokyo and Seoul, Adidas there had exclusives for those cities, so happy to see them for T.O.!

Aside from the aesthetic, here are three things I especially love about Anthropologie: 1) They are dog-friendly! Even if you order something online and you completely forget about it for a year, you can return it as long as you have the order number-- I don't even know if there's a deadline for you to bring it back!

The beautiful architecture marries with the Anthro aesthetic perfectly. Lovely selection, particularly the housewares department. Was just a bit disappointed in the clothing department. I guess for such a large, lovely space I was expecting a bit more stock. It's not lacking by any stretch, but I've seen other stores pack in more in a smaller footprint, like shoes and such. But it's still an exceptionally beautiful store that was a pleasure to stroll and browse in. Oh, I was also able to find a replacement mug identical to my favorite mug that was chipped in a vigorous washing session by my husband. And for that, I am forever grateful.
