Marshall's is one of those stores that you know you can go anytime and find something useful for your home or for yourself. They replenish inventory so frequently that many times, the offerings are a new experience with every shopping trip. I love walking around the home section and grab some nice deals to enhance the condo. Marshall's was founded in 1956 in Massachusetts and they have grown to be a large national chain of discount stores. By 1993, Marshalls had expanded throughout 42 states including Hawaii, and had opened several downtown locations. In 1995, Marshalls was purchased by TJX, the parent company of its main rival, TJ Maxx, for $550 million. Marshalls and T.J. Maxx operate as sister stores, and share a similar footprint throughout the country. While the two offer near-identical prices and have similar store layouts, Marshalls differentiates itself by featuring a larger emphasis on family footwear and larger men's and juniors departments. In 2019, Marshalls began operating a website for online shopping so you can shop from the comfort of your home...or....if there's no physical store close to you, you can still take advantage of the great deals.

The only person there who actually had a personality was the cool, tall guy sweeping the floors. I wanted a product with missing items and damaged packaging because it was the only one left. I asked the person at the register if there was any more, and they said no. They told me that they were probably going to end up throwing the damaged item away. I then asked if I could still have the item, as I really wanted it. They then asked another employee and she took around 8 minutes to put a pricetag on the item for $4 when the other worker had already stated that they were just going to end up throwing it away. AWFUL customer service, and only 2 out of 8 registers open. Would not come again.

I almost always leave this Marshall's with something in hand. Recently went for a yoga mat and found a really nice high quality one, very thick, comfortable, biodegradable, and free of questionable chemicals (always a plus!). I also got a face towel for yoga as well as a yoga mat back carrier which has a zippered pocket to put keys, cell phone, or something small in. I like to go here around Christmas time because I always find great, affordable stocking stuffers. I also like their beauty section because every once in a while I can find organic and chemical free skin products / make up / and/or hair care. I wish they had a better selection of purses like the ones that are in the Sudbury TJ Maxx. I know, 2 different stores, but they are both TJX companies along with Homegoods. Join the TJX rewards program and you accumulate points and are notified of special early bird events only if you are a member - it's free.

I know it's difficult to equate Ocean State with quality, but as far as Job Lots go, this one is…read morethe best one I've been to. It's big, but well organized and the employees are friendly. Does not feel like your uncle's basement. Stock is hit or miss. Sometimes they have awesome brand name items for super cheap, and really good quality pantry staples. Sometimes, they don't have what may seem like common sense things. I just noticed today that this location has cherry wood knitting needles, for $2 a set! Woah! I like coming here during the holidays, to fill gift baskets or get cheap decorations. They have online coupons and offers now, too. This location is the best if you want to try out a gluten-free product or fancy snack without paying a lot of money. Also, the best assortment of Bob's Red Mill products at great prices. Anything you might get at Walmart or Target for winter (shovels, snowmelt, scrapers) or spring (gardening, planters, bird feeders) you can get at Ocean State for much less. And it's the same stuff, so don't be a snob.

I got a few minor electronic items that are a great deal. Yes Dollar Tree is cheaper, but sometimes they don't have the name brands nor the selection that TJ Maxx would have. I also think the quality of these small electronic items is better here. The company roots date back to 1976, when Bernard (Ben) Cammarata, General Merchandising Manager of Marshalls at the time, was recruited by discount retailer, Zayre to develop and spearhead the launch of a new off-price chain selling family apparel and home fashions. Under Mr. Cammarata's leadership, T.J. Maxx was born, with its first stores opening in 1977. In the late 1980s, Zayre was restructured and spun off three of its brands -- T.J. Maxx, Hit or Miss, and Chadwick's of Boston -- which served as the initial retail banners of what would become The TJX Companies. TJX continued to grow steadily over the years, opening stores in new markets, countries, and continents, launching new chains, and acquiring other retailers, to bring its popular off-price model to an even wider network of customers who love the eclectic mix of quality, fashionable, brand name apparel and home fashions, all at amazing value. I am sold !!!!
