This is a small town diner, and is exactly what you'd hope: inexpensive breakfast fare in a laid-back spot. My uncle and I stopped by on the way to Tennessee and were glad we chose this rather than fast food or something. I had scrambled eggs over sausage gravy and biscuits, which was massive and tasty, and my uncle had a combo with eggs, sausage, toast and so on. The coffee was tasty and the nice waitress kept it coming. The place is small but surprisingly spacious -- as we were there, it was just us and a couple who seemed like regulars came in and one of the staff chatted with them, but then a bunch of college kids came in and there was room for them in the back. Stopped in by chance off the interstate. Generic diner menu, but the food was all exceptional. Best biscuits I've had in a while. My steak omelet was the best I've ever had. As I pulled each bite away with my fork, a perfectly layered omelet remained in tact. My wife found the French toast equally exceptional. Stopped for a bite after spending the afternoon on the Skyline trail. It's small and unassuming but gives you fresh good home cooking. I had a chili cheese dog and onion rings. Hubby had grilled cheese w bacon. My chili was housemade and awesome. Onion ring batter was a tad heavy. Hub said his sw was just ok. Decor is old and faded but the bathroom is newly renovated. This dinner is so comfortable and quaint you feel like your at home in your kitchen. You must stop by if your in the area either picking fruit at nearby orchards or visiting wineries. Everyone local knows it and that's your first hint that if you need comfort food after a long day and are dreaming of kicking back with home iced tea, this is the spot! I had two chili dogs and onion rings and they were great. The chili actually had visible ground beef and large kidney beans, they were really good. The onion rings were crispy and the iced tea was so good I was looking for my grandmother to come out of the kitchen! Overall it was a great meal with a couple of suggestions for the future. The food was mostly amazing the fried catfish and cheesesteak were awesome. The grits where nicley flavored and had a nice consistency. What I would like to go more into depth about is the catfish!!! It was the best catfish I ever had. It was very fresh and lightly breaded and I would definetly recommend it. We had to wait a while for our food but it was a holiday and busy staff was hard working and friendly. America's Favorite Diner! That is what it says in the menu. I had to chuckle. Has all of America voted this their favorite diner? We were driving through Marshall and decided to stop for a late breakfast. What a treat! We couldn't decide what we wanted so we tried a number of things. Waffles, eggs, cream chipped beef were ordered. All were great. And the service was fantastic. The place was busy on a Sunday morning but we got all sorts of great attention from the staff. We told our waiter it was our first visit and he went out of his way to make suggestions for us. He even brought us some samples to make sure we came back to try their other foods. Our visit to Marshall Diner included a pleasant atmosphere, delicious food and great service by a staff that knows how to take good care of their customers. I went to the Marshall Diner once, about 3 months ago, so this review may be affected by what I recall (or don't recall). I had a ham and cheese omelet with home fries and wheat toast -- my normal diner breakfast. It was about a three egg omelet, somewhat generously filled, and had nice texture. The cheese -- which I believe is the make-or-break component -- was a mild cheddar; it wasn't anything special, but was more flavorful than ordinary tangy American. The ham (diced) was fairly ordinary, but it thankfully wasn't too salty. The home fries were adequate, but could have been crispier. The toast was your basic grocery store wheat bread. 7/14/2019 We have eaten at Marshall since the first week it opened. We are frequent customers. We ate tonight and will most likely be our last visit. The food was good and the service fine, but the kicker is the charge for a 1/4 cup serving of ice cream with a small amount of chocolate syrup was $4.99 which we have had on many previous visits for $1.99. The food was good, people were super nice, and it was the perfect quick stop on our drive through Virginia. We had a toddler along who enjoyed coloring, talking to our fantastic waitress, Kim, and they offer about 10 kids meal options that cover breakfast and lunch/dinner. This is a small-town diner. If you go into it with that expectation, you will have a good meal. It is a little dirty. You will leave smelling like the kitchen. Overall disappointing. We stopped in on the way back from Linden and it showed 4 stars at this diner. Lots of cars were here but not that many inside. Seat your self. Asking for a high chair felt like I was putting the girl out. We ordered and the food took quite a while. About 20 minutes. For late breakfast that's a little slower than we were used to but, ok. Anyway the parents food came out but that's when they 'realized' they did not have any Mac and cheese. The only food we ordered for my younger who at this point was melting from hunger. So it took 20 minutes for them to realize they could not make the food ordered?? Ok. So for my food: The omelette was pretty good and hot. The bacon inside though was very tough and chewy. The hash browns were cold. Clearly they made the omelette recently but not the hash browns. My wife ordered a coffee and never once did they offer her another cup or offer me another ice tea. When the kids food finally came the waffle was really good. When we were about to pay we realized they also made a mistake on the bill. They charged us for a side of bacon that never arrived. This is by far the worst restaurant I've ever been to. The service was atrocious. There was one waitress when the place was full of people and she said it's always like this. There were three people in my party and we ordered an appetizer,which was the chili cheese fries, this got to us pretty fast but it was obviously straight out of the microwave. Hi we were passing through and stopped here a cpl of days after the 2016 snow storm. The pkg lot was plowed nicely so my 80yo mom could walk easily... When we entered we were the only ppl there, except staff. It was warm the two gentlemen were welcoming!! It IS a diner... Do NOT expect ihop, applebees or bww!!! Bc its older a lot of their decorations are faded and the lighting isnt LED... Im not sure what the other reviewers saw... But i thought the place was clean, just older. The bathrooms were clean... The menu was all over the place... I liked that bc i could have breakfast lunch or dinner plus a few things i would have never thought of in a diner!! It was a great surprise!! Ok food... Mom had a burger, hubby had the buffalo chicken sandwich and i had the cajun chicken... Destroyed!!! All of them were great!!! Even mom took what she could eat home... And ate the leftovers later on!!! The service was great he had his head on a swivel and constantly asked us how were doing. When other ppl started to flood in he still kept asking!! I was not impressed, biscuits and gravy were cold and extremely bland, sandwiches were made on very thin cheap tasting bread, with artificial tasting cheese. The restaurant itself is very small and dirty. Their bathrooms were clean, which was shocking based on the cleanliness level of the rest of the place.
