What a wonderful place! Looking for a cup of coffee and breakfast, we stopped at El Agave in the late morning. Our plates of huevos, veggies, and refried beans were delicious, generous, and fresh; ditto for the complimentary chips and salsa. Our server was responsive and helpful. This Texas girlie was highly impressed by this restaurant. I walked in and felt right at home... the colors, sounds and smells were everything I'm used to seeing at traditional Mexican restaurants and given that DC has been quite disappointing with foreign food, my heart was quite happy to be here. First of all, this was the first place I noticed with refried beans on the menu since I got here a month ago. Secondly, the sauces on the windows just about warmed my ice cold heart. Thirdly, the food was seasoned well, cooked to perfection and had quite big portions. My friend and I kept eating way past when we should have. We meant to take leftovers home but had nothing left to take home and had to roll ourselves out of the restaurant. I got the Huevos Con Chorizo which had two scrambled eggs with Mexican sausage, Spanish rice, refried beans and tortillas - it was delightful! He got the El Agave Special with had One tamale, two taquitos mexicanos (chicken and beef), one nacho chip with beans, one with chicken, one with rice and one with beef, with cheese on all four. Served with lettuce, sour cream, guacamole and tomatoes - all for only $17.29. We started with a free chips and salsa (which was also yum) and washed it down with a potent margarita. This was such good food and very reminiscent of home. I would go there again in a heartbeat and highly, highly recommend it. Staff were also super friendly. read more

This is our family's go-to neighborhood restaurant in Marshall for special and casual occasions. The salsa is the best I have had and I have traveled throughout South and Central America and the Southwest of the US, yet is so unpretentiously served in a mini-carafe with warm chips. The rice and refried beans are incredibly tasty as are most things I have ordered, especially the veggie quesadilla. Stopped by based on the positive reviews. I got the chimichangas beef and chicken. Both were very flavorful, with a generous amount of guacamole and sour cream to to them off. I have been driving by this place for quite some time and decided to stop because I love Mexican food and I was very hungry. I will probably be planning my service visits to Middleburg as to stop here every time from now on. Yes, it is that good. I'm a BIG fan of guacamole and these guys make some of the best I've ever had. The Relleno was spot on too. Even the complimentary salsa was muy delicioso! This is an OK Mexican Restaurant for Warrenton. You can go to Gainesville if you really want to eat at a nice Mexican Restaurant. At El Agave I usually have the chicken fajitas which have a good taste with the peppers, onions, and cheese. I also like the rice and refried beans. For the last several months their credit card machine has not been working so they only take cash or a check. That problem may have been corrected and then it may not have been corrected and it has a tendency to reoccur after it has been fixed. Their food is tasty and service is excellent. read more

summary: likely the best restaurant in The Plains. Service: We came here around 3pm on a weekend for a late lunch. I assumed that the place would be close to empty, but boy was I wrong. We grabbed one of the few empty tables. A few minutes later, all other tables and the bar seating filled up. There was only one man serving everyone and it was clear that he was busy. But he stayed cool and polite throughout our time. We ordered and expected the kitchen to be behind, but our dishes came out surprisingly quickly. Food: Outstanding. The pulled chicken in the burritos was my favorite and the red sauce (enchilada-style sauce?) on and around the dishes was excellent. Everyone at my table was very pleased with their food.
