I was disappointed in my recent visit to Los Potrillos. This was one of my favorite spots to stop on road trips... but it's gone downhill and fast. For starters, the bathroom had 1.5/2 broken toilets and the floor was flooded with mystery liquid... I could barely make it to the sink without almost slipping. It also smelt horrible and the bathroom was legitimately falling apart. Now onto the service... it took them 30 minutes to take our order (and it wasn't that crowded). The server was not friendly either. However, since they were out of guac she did give us free queso which was very nice. The chips and salsa were excellent, as was the Mexican rice. My $15 grilled chicken quesadilla on the other hand... was sub par and small (see photos). The grilled chicken itself was somewhat stiff. Some pieces had only chicken... others only cheese. This was discomforting. Where is the fusion of flavors? Anyways, this is not the restaurant that I remember. read more

Went in for Sunday lunch and our party of 4 was seated right away. Hot chips and a spicy salsa was served and drinks were ordered and brought rather quickly along with our ordered cheese dip. We placed our lunch order and enjoyed our conversation until the meal arrived with drink refills and chips coming, the food was delicious! They did a great job getting the particulars of the orders correct (everyone had something special). We enjoyed the meal and stayed at our table for a while talking and never felt rushed. Great place to get a bite to eat. Really friendly and clean. Chips and salsa upon arrival which is always good. Salsa was much better than I expected. Really diverse menu so it took a moment to decide. Tried one of the combos. Overall the food is good just not as spicy as I'm expecting being from Texas. The red enchilada sauce was a bit odd tasting of cinnamon to me. Not over powering but more like a Christmasy flavor. Tacos were nice, surprising to see the use of white Mexican style cheese. Again I would have liked a bit more spicy goodness. Either way I did enjoy my meal. The service was excellent as well. read more

Absolute gem this place. They even offer flour or corn tortillas. Service was on point and always asked if I needed anything. During lunch, my food was prepared quickly and with care. I had tacos al pastor which came with two sauces--delicious. I took a giant chicken quesadilla home as well as a couple burritos. I would choose the quesadilla and tacos over the burritos in the future, but nothing was bad. Also, the homemade chips and salsa are a nice touch. I live 2.5 hours away in Lancaster, PA, but will absolutely be back here when I travel again for work. Will have to try some of their other dishes as I'm sure they will not disappoint. read more

We spent the night in Front Royal in preparation for a ride down the Skyline Drive. We had been on motorcycles for 11 hours so we were pretty hungry. Let me preface this by saying we are foodies. I mean, like it's in our genes. We also cook and experiment in the kitchen a lot. Most of the time dining out is a let down. This place had the best burrito (my huband got the burrito Portrillos) and absolutely the best choripollo I have ever eaten. They include grilled pineapple with the choripollo, which was a first for me, and I will never have it any other way. The chicken was perfect, the chorizo was incredibly savory with just a touch of sweet heat and the cheese was not overpowering. My husband makes (and I can) his own refried beans from scratch but the ones here make us want to go home and figure out what they did to make them magic. The food was sublime, our waitress was attentive and funny and took the time to talk food with us. The atmosphere is relaxing but festive and the restaurant immaculate. We live on the southern end of NC but would make a motorcycle trip up just to eat here. It would be worth it. read more

A very typical Tex-Mex restaurant with lots of menu options and huge portions. You get chips and drinks upon sitting down and the servers are quick with the orders. My boyfriend and I ordered the Mexican burrito which is actually two burritos (one with carnitas and one with carne asada) while I ordered the chicken and spinach enchiladas covered in their queso sauce. Everything tasted fine and I was super happy when they brought me some of their hotter hot sauce. P.S. The queso wasn't half bad! read more

I love this restaurant. They have a very large menu to choose from of just about any Mexican food you could want, and they give very large portion sizes. They also serve chips and salsa with every meal (including take out). I always order it as takeout, and they put the hot food in one container, and the cold toppings in another, so that the cold toppings like lettuce, tomato etc. don't wilt from being on top of the hot food too long on the way home. The hot food stays hot and the veggies stay cool and crisp which is what I really like. They use foil containers with paper lids rather than plastic, so they are environmentally conscious and you can recycle it. The price is also very reasonable too, especially considering the large portion size. A wonderful healthy meal for only a couple dollars more than a Big Mac combo! I loved the Enchiladas Verdes, which is 3 large enchiladas filled with shredded beef, tomatillo sauce, sliced avocados, and other veggie toppings. I loved the additional chopped tomatoes and what I think was pickled cabbage. Fantastic. Highly recommend! read more

Nice place. Warm atmosphere. Nice staff. A little loud. Food was delicious and in large portions. Chorizo queso was flavorful and the chorizo had the perfect amount of spice. Jalisco Burrito was huge, had plenty of leftovers. Burrito advertised as having steak, chicken, chorizo and shrimp. Two little yet important details kept from giving 5 stars. The steak was very tough in the burrito and I was inning alone so the servers were more attentive to the larger parties. Overall an excellent dining experience. Great atmosphere! Delicious food! Excellent service! We ordered the Enchiladas Suprema, a sampling of all four types of enchiladas they feature. They were all delicious-- the chicken and cheese were my favorites. We also got the table-side fresh guacamole -- it was one of the most delicious guacamoles I've ever had!! We ate our lunch inside the restaurant. The salsa had just enough kick for me. The corn chips are good. I had the lunch chicken fajitas ($9.00) with the normal sides. There was a generous portion of onions and peppers in with the tasty chicken. The side dish had a large amount of sour cream and guacamole. I had a very small amount of tomatoes in with my iceberg lettuce. The rice and refried beans were very good. I had two flour tortillas. I think there should have been more, but since my wife was served five corn tortillas with her order, I used a couple of hers. My wife had the lunch carnitas ($9.50) which she enjoyed because of the flavorful pork. Our waitress did an excellent job of keeping our glasses filled and checking with us. After we placed our order, it was soon served to us. This was a good experience for us. read more

Ordered a carne asada and was very disappointed to find the order did not include rice, had to pay separate for it. The steak was very small and chewy not tender and a little salty and greasy not juicy. The salad had some sort of pink onion that did not taste good at all either. Ordered a side of guacamole and it was watery, that is not how guacamole is supposed to taste like. Got the "Potrillo" dish and asked for the steak well done. I know that is sacrilege but I only order medium rare steaks at restaraunts that specialize in steaks. When I bit into the steak it was medium rare. The rice and beans that accompanied were lacking in flavor. Definitely not a good place for vegetarians unless I missed the proper vegetarian dish.
