This local gem absolutely delivers on flavor and value. The salsa alone is worth the visit--fresh, vibrant, and just the right kick to keep you reaching for more chips. Pair that with their margaritas (perfectly balanced, not overly sweet), and you're already off to a great start. I stopped in for the chicken chimichanga lunch special, and it was such a win--crispy on the outside, flavorful and tender on the inside, and generously portioned without breaking the bank. It's rare to find a spot that nails both quality and affordability this well. Friendly service, great atmosphere, and consistently delicious food--definitely a place I'll keep coming back to. read more

First time fantastico! Great service and wonderful food. We enjoy authentic Mexican cuisine and this hit the spot! The burrito had a nice cheese topping with amazing pico. I loved it. My wife had some of the best mole chicken she has ever had. My daughters loved their shrimp fajitas and enchiladas verdes! But the chips and salsa had me at the first! Nice slight heat with very delicious chips. Can't wait to come back, but sadly from out of town. Friendly and fun colorful ambiance. read more

The ambiance to start, is so great! Colorful and had painted chairs. Colorful flags and paintings. The staff are sweet & knowledgable about their menu. I did take out and asked for jalapeños. I was asked if I wanted fresh or pico. Hello! Fresh! Yes baby! Refried beans were so good. Nice texture and a real homemade not canned flavor. Rice fresh and color of saffron. Here it comes.... enchiladas with mole sauce fantastic!!! The mole sauce was a little sweet, but what flavor. Terrific all around experience. I found two Senorial sangria sodas. I love them slightly frozen. Chips are warm and light crunch. Not a heavy oily chip. Now, to eat my flan dessert read more

Always great service and great food. Dropped in last minute as a change in dinner plans, made my order at the bar to go and 10 minutes later my order came out hot and correct. read more

I'm sorry but I have to be honest. First of all, I placed a pick up order for 6 people for lunch. I had to wait a little longer, which is not ideal when you are ordering during your limited lunch break at work. I understand it might be a larger order but I'm pretty sure a restaurant that big can handle 6 lunch specials. When I entered, there was no clear sign where to go, I had to grab the bartender's attention. I was told to sign the receipt. The place was pretty packed with a lot of seniors. The lunch portions were so small! I'm a tiny person and I didn't feel full at all. The food was cold by the time I got back to work which is like a 2 min drive. The nachos were soggy and wasn't great. Felt like really cheap food. I don't understand how people eat this food! Also, get a lot of customers! The coke fountain in the bartender area looked dirty. There was no place for me to sit and wait for the food. So I was awkwardly standing in the entryway looking around waiting. read more

We have eaten here a few times in the past and decided to give it another try. When we walked in the sign said wait to be seated. We stood there for a few minutes before someone came over to seat us. We were taken to our table and rather quickly chips and salsa were brought to the table. It took awhile for someone to come and take our drink orders and even longer to take our food orders. Probably ten minutes or so after we placed our food order the waiter came back to ask what I had ordered since he couldn't remember. After waiting some more we contemplated telling them to make our order to go. Finally our food showed up. I have to admit that I was not impressed with the quality of the food especially the beans. Overall it's an average Mexican restaurant, the decor is nice but the quality of the food and the service are not there. There are better options in the area. read more

Food is amazing, good customer service ..very nice and clean restaurant ..very authentic mexican restautant .

Consistently good food & service. Love the chicken chimichangas but add the extra side of rice!

We've been going to El Agave in Warrenton for over 20 years, and we have eaten there, literally, hundreds of times during that stretch. Food is consistently good, and it is a very friendly place. Notably, the same two guys have been managing the place as long as I've been going there, and that says a lot about the consistency. Definitely recommended for an informal Mexican meal. read more

Stopped in on our way elsewhere. Glad we did! We were greeted and seated quickly at around 2:30 on a Friday afternoon. Cristobal was very nice and on point. Orders taken quickly and food delivered fast and hot. Her chicken soup was hot and delicious with what appeared to be a whole chicken breast in it. My Speedy Gonzalez was very good as well. Crispy beef taco, fluffy yellow rice and a chicken enchilada with mole sauce. This place has the good stuff. Quaint atmosphere reminiscent of some Mexican restaurants. We would likely drive 30 minutes out of our way to return. (Dang it, I was so excited by my food I again forgot to take a pic!) read more

Tried for the first time, and it was average. I had fajitas, and they looked and smelled pretty good, but not a lot of flavor. Tortillas, rice and beans were sorta 'grocery store'. Same deal with the chips, kind of a plain taste, salsa was fresh but no strong flavors or spice. The food quality is ok, it was cooked right and not stale or anything. It just doesn't have a ton of seasoning. It's better than what most people can make at home, but not as good as some of the chains I've tried like El Tio or Guapo's. Service was good and friendly, no long wait. Decor is cute, and booth seating is ok. But the lights are all too low and bright, with cold white light that feels very sterile. It doesn't feel comfortable or welcoming. They would really improve the vibe of this place by just using dimmer, more warm lights that aren't right in your face, maybe some of those little fake candles on the table. read more

I ate here at noon on a Monday with nine of my friends for lunch. We were all seated at a long table in the back room. When our waiter appeared in sight we knew it was for us. I had the lunch chicken fajitas with the regular lunch sides. The lunch portions were very warm and tasty. The sides of refried beans and rice were also were flavorful. Our service was very good and fast. read more

Best cheese sauce ever!!! Great service and great food. Very kind and welcoming staff. Awesome vibe.

Tienes Sopa De Pollo. That was the highlight of this lunch outing. It was barely warm but at least they had it, next time I might recommend leaving it in the Micro for another 30 seconds. I like that you get the chips and salsa right away. Both were fresh and flavorful. I had one of the lunch specials which included a taco. Very disappointing that you can only have a hard shell taco. Their sign says 'authentic', well...compared to T Bell, maybe. read more

Came in here for late lunch last Sunday around 2:00 pm-ish. Upon being seated, I was greeted with a basket of chips, a small container of salsa, and a request to take my drink order - went simple and healthy - water with a lime wedge. Ordered the "Grill Nachos Texanos" - their variation of Nachos with grilled steak, chicken, shrimp, grilled onions and peppers, and a con queso cheese sauce. I also ordered a side of con queso cheese sauce and Guacamole to go with my basket of chips. Salsa: Has a nice spicy bite to it - but not overly hot. Guacamole: Bland, no feel flavor Con Queso Cheese Sauce: Was to thin and runny, and to salty Grill Nachos Texanos: This was a tasty dish - and it's a lot of food. I could not finish it and took the rest to go. Service was good. I'd come back and try some of the other menu items. Would like to try their Burritos and their Fajitas! read more

Went to El Agave for lunch by myself today. Have been coming here for years for great Mexican comfort food. The Enchiladas Supremas tastes pretty good and always hits the spot. The portions are fairly large in here and reasonably priced. Also, the server was very friendly and respectful, albeit pretty slow in between visits to the table. The negative. As soon as you walk in, the restaurant has an odor to it that smells like kitchen drain... one of my largest issues with restaurants... that is my least favorite thing. In addition, the place could use an updating, facelift, or remodel. Some of that might help with the smell too. Otherwise, its a great local hangout for dinners out with family or friends. We have been coming here for years, I just wish they would update and clean. :-) Gracias! read more

Our food at this location has been consistently very good. Our only complaint is that the salsa is hit or miss. Sometimes it's too spicy for us to eat. The tamales have less meat than you would expect. I get the enchiladas Rancheras and it's always packed with chicken. read more

Great food & atmosphere. This place always delivers with high quality food at a very reasonable price. It's my go to place for Mexican food anytime I'm in the area. Highly recommend. A++++++ read more

This place used to be so good. Everytime i try again the service is so slow. They don't check in enough. Yesterday the queso took forever to be delivered and when it was it was cold. No longer good here. The chips are always so overcooked they're awful. read more

The food was good, but the service not so much. We were here for an hour and a half and only checked on a total of 4 times and one of those times was to take the check. We didn't get refills until we were more than halfway done with our food either. Other than that, everyone is friendly and the restaurant itself is nice. read more

Absolute worse service ever. Three melonated women were sat after a caucasian couple and they received service before us. We ordered quesadillas, beef tacos and lunch carnitas and it took 40 minutes for us to receive our food. Since we received our food 40 minutes into our lunch break we were forced to stuff 5 bites into our mouths before we had to return to our destination. While the food tasted ok, the carnitas and the tacos made us sick to the point of vomiting in the evening. We did not feel better until noon the following day. read more

El Agave is supposed to be authentic. I don't know where they got that from. Their food gave me food poisoning after only one bite of it. The service was horrible. One of their hosts spilled juice that we didn't even order. The atmosphere is horrible. I can barely breathe in that place. read more

We went there in a group of 10. The servers were all nice and friendly, and everything we had was delicious. We especially liked ceviche and guacamole! Will definitely go back for a casual Mexican dinner. read more

I came in for some basic bean and cheese nachos. I was greeted less than a minute after arriving and shown to a booth. At a glance things seemed clean but looking around you see the ripped booth seats and dirty window/wall that I can dismiss enough to eat but when looking at the colorful pictures hung I see a lot of dust. Not dust from the previous week but dust that has been there for a lengthy amount of time. I ran my finger along the chair rail and that was the same. There's no reason why someone can't take a Lysol wipe to the furniture before closing each night. I can't imagine what else isn't cleaned in there. - On to the food. I started with a cup of coffee. I received a tasty cup of coffee at 2pm on a Saturday at a Mexican restuarant. I was surprised. I ordered a plate of bean and cheese nachos. They were good and nicely topped off. The beans and cheese were portioned nicely with the chips. I decided to order the vegetarian fajitas. Comes with rice, beans and tortillas. There was no flavor on either the plate of fajitas or the rice. The guac on the side also no flavor. What happened? I would expect spices and smells of hot sauces or at least some simple salt flavor. Nothing. Speaking of hot sauces, there were 4 bottles of store bought sauces to choose from on the table. Isn't there any in-house sauce or even salsa to offer? I was sadly disappointed. My server was so nice and I was happy with coffee and my bean cheese nachos but those are items I can make the same at home. I'd come back for a quick fix of nachos but nothing else. If it wasn't good the first time, it'd be a waste the second time as well most likely. read more

Great Birria tacos. Never had a bad meal - every dish is hot and tasty. Really good margaritas too

Food was decent, service not so much. Additionally the batroom was trashed. I was actually afraid to wash my hands.

Very good and fresh food . Service was fast and atmosphere was awesome. Will be back soon

Came for lunch. They have great prices for lunch- $5-7 bucks! Ordered cheese enchilada combo- which came with refried beans and rice. Food was pretty good. The enchilada was good- tasty as always- not too much cheese. A lot of places tend to overstuff cheese enchiladas, so glad this one wasn't. The beans were quite tasty- almost liquidy-like, and not overly salty. The rice was tender, and cooked perfectly. I would defiantly come back again. read more

El Agave - Cheese enchilada lunch combo - Mexican Near Me - Warrenton, Virginia

We have always loved eating here but hadn't been for about a year. The salsa had no flavor - was just like liquid tomato sauce - no spice or chunks of tomatoes or onions. The enchiladas poblanos were dry with no mole sauce inside and only a small drizzle over the top that became baked onto the hot plate. It was such a disappointing dinner. The waitress never came over after our food arrived to see how everything was or to ask if we needed anything. It wasn't busy in the restaurant so that couldn't have been the excuse. Won't be going back there -- so sad! Will try the location in Marshall to see how it is at some point. read more

We went here for mothers day dinner. The place was packed and there was a line about 10 people deep. The lined moved pretty quick considering how packed they were. we are a family of four and we were served pretty quick. Food was hot and flavorful. The waitress was very helpful and on top of things considering how busy she was. The place was clean Brite and cheerful. The menu selection is huge. I had the pork burrito my wife had the grand sampler, my boys had the chimichenga and the steak. Awesome!!!! Can't say enough about the service and atmosphere. Parking is easy. Great place and reasonabley priced. We will be back. read more

You know what's weird? The menu at El Agave is almost exactly the same as the menu at the Los Toltecos chain...right down to names like the "Speedy Gonzales" on the lunch menu. I figure they must be connected, but there's no indication of that fact other than the the menu is exactly the same. Los Toltecos reviews: http://www.yelp.com/biz/los-toltecos-alexandria Oh, and the food itself is obviously similar. It's really decent at El Agave. I like the cheese enchiladas and the bean chalupas. They use chihuahua cheese, the really melty white kind, which I love. The refried beans are nice and tasty, but as others have mentioned, QUITE liquidy. The rice is too dry. Service here is good and fast, and the prices are very, very reasonable. The decor and ambiance leave something to be desired, however. Pretty run-of-the-mill. But if you're looking for decent Mexican food on the cheap, El Agave will deliver on both counts. read more

Food was sub par Mexican at best, just didn't taste right. Margarita was good, very heavy handed with the tequila. Service was ok.

Pretty not that great.... Like to the point, as an adult, I ordered chocolate milk to drink (hey, don't judge...) and they brought it in a child's cup complete with a plastic top and straw... Come on, bro... I'm in my late 20s. Chile relleno is terrible. Cheese is NOT consistent. One time I got it the cheese was decent but there was a ton of batter on the chile. The second time the cheese was, and I'm NOT kidding, American cheese. Service is generally not that great and the servers only surface when you've had an empty cup for about 20 minutes. If you can't get a relleno right, can you call yourself a Mexican restaurant? Make the drive to the several Pancho Villas restaurants in Fredericksburg, Stafford or Culpeper if you can. read more

Went in for dinner and we waited in line to be seated. The line went fast and we enjoyed talking to others waiting for a seat too. However, once we were seated no one brought chips and salsa or bothered to take our order after 10 minutes.
