Frozen Margarita
Jackelyn M.

Went to El Tio's over the weekend and it did not disappoint. The restaurant is very spacious & the serve was great. She kept coming to ask us if we were doing okay & every time we requested something she would bring it immediately. The food was so delicious. We tried the Mexican parrillada and it was SO GOOD. I think it definitely feeds 3 very hungry people. The cheese dip with chorizo y queso blanco was very delicious. I was very impressed & would love to come back

Combo steak and chicken fajitas

Great food and service for a fair price. This is definitely a 4 star restaurant or better. Most reviews are 4 or 5 stars. The poor reviews complained about prices or cold food when the people got home. The prices are not a bargain, but they are fair compared to other good Mexican restaurants. The interior is nice and clean and pretty typically for a Mexican restaurant.

If you want to participate in HH you have to sit outside or at the bar. The prices were 50% off classic or frozen margs. Overall the service was quick and the food was good. I enjoyed our time here.

Shredded Beef Chimichanga

Great food, great service! The chimichanga was delicious and I really liked their maduros. If you're craving Mexican, I'd come here any day over uncle Julio's. The margaritas were good, but I'd maybe get a nicer tequila next time to make them even better. They were also kind enough to hold onto my credit card for a few days because I accidentally left it behind. Great people.

Lomo Saltado

I have dined in El Tio multiple times over the last 15 years and have always enjoyed the food and ambiance of the restaurant. The restaurant is clean, well lit, brightly colored especially the bar area. A quick glance at the bar and I saw some high end tequilas and bourbons so if that is something you look for they have them. Today I ordered the Lomo Saltado for lunch, it came out in a large plate with the rice and beans on the side. The meal was good but unfortunately it didn't live up to my expectations. The fries are a bit thin for it so they soaked up the sauce quickly so I dumped the rice in and mixed it up to help. The steak was cooked as I asked but the sauce is where the meal fell flat, it wasn't spicy enough for me when it comes to Lomo Saltado but I understand not everyone is looking for a spicy meal and I am not saying it needs to be so spicy your mouth is on fire but I do like a little heat in my Lomo Saltado. The beans were good as always with the seasonings and the chips and salsa were great, I do love restaurants that have a thinner chip to serve with their salsa. I also took a carryout order for one of my guys on a project and he got the Pollo Saltado and really liked it as it was the same lunch I brought him the week before, so I take that as a solid meal review from him. The service was great also, my waitress was attentive, respectful, engaging, and chatty. She gave me some recommendations and went from there, she would check in from to time to time also to make sure everything is fine. I would definitely recommend eating at El Tio and will return even though my meal didn't live up to my expectations on this visit but it was still a good dining experience and I have had other meals that were great!

Hands-down, the best Tex-Mex in Northern Virginia! We ordered chicken fajitas, which were absolute perfection.

The tacos al carbón are the best tacos I've had in Virginia, and the horchata is amazing too. This place is very authentic.

Top notch service & she was so considerate of my little ones. She kept the fresh chips & salsa rolling for our table. Hubby had a cocktail & I ordered a mocktail & Hailey generously gave me a sample of their frozen margarita (dangerously good!). Drinks were on the sweeter side. We ordered... -Costal shrimp ceviche: so so good & fresh! Tender shrimp that was perfectly balanced with spicy jalapeno & a citrus-y sauce. Highly recommend! -Cochinita tacos: the pork was phenomenal & loved the seasonings! Portion was big enough for my hubby & I to share. Came with flour tortillas that, I believe, are made fresh there. They were amazing. The only downside...pork was very salty. Still loved it & would order again. -GREAT kids menu options! My 3 kids loved each of their dishes. They got quesadilla, bean & cheese burrito, & chicken tenders. Each came with 2 pick-your-own sides. Overall, huge hit with the family! I'm surprised by the low ratings here but we genuinely had a great time. We will most definitely be back for the chocolate pinata!

But a few things held this visit back from being a great experience. The biggest issue, and the one that cost the most stars: the noise. There's essentially no acoustic treatment in the dining room, and even at maybe 25% capacity, the sound is overwhelming. We couldn't hold a conversation without leaning in and repeating ourselves constantly. That's a real problem. It also had a direct impact on our order -- our server couldn't hear us clearly either, so a simple substitution (no beans, double rice) came out as no beans and no rice. Small thing, but avoidable. On the menu side, the descriptions need work. The patron salad lists "house dressing" with no further detail -- turns out it's quite sweet, which felt out of place on that dish. That's emblematic of the menu overall: the flavor combinations lean creative, sometimes mixing profiles that don't really belong together in a Tex Mex context. It's not bad, just occasionally confusing, and more transparency in the descriptions would help guests set expectations. Bottom line: solid kitchen, good staff, but fix the acoustics and tighten up the menu copy and this place has real potential.

But after our first visit, we were impressed enough with the food that we came back soon after to try more of the menu! On our first visit, we ordered the lomo saltado, and it was really flavorful and delicious. We also tried the carne asada, which came covered in a brown gravy--not exactly what we expected to see on our steak! We were hesitant at first, but once we took a bite, we realized it was actually very tasty. Definitely not what we expected based on how it looked. The margarita was okay. On our return visit, we ordered the steak and shrimp, and wow--the flavor was absolutely delicious! The steak had an amazing flavor. We also tried the steak with onions, which comes topped with plenty of sautéed onions. It was very good, but the skirt steak with shrimp is still our favorite. We came back again for brunch and tried the steak and eggs, which was pretty tasty and served on a sizzling platter. They also have a $30 brunch option where you can choose three menu items, get brunch drinks at a substantially reduced price, and receive a dessert. That's a pretty good deal! The restaurant also has a large menu with plenty of choices, so there is still a lot for us to try. The customer service has been consistently good, and we really enjoy their fresh, tasty chips and salsa. The chips are crisp and flavorful, and the salsa is delicious. We've now been back several times and will definitely return to try more menu items. There are some surprisingly delicious dishes here!

Wow. I had a fever for nachos today. Normally I like shredded cheese on nachos but it seems no one…read moredoes that anymore, so I came to Moe's knowing it'd probably be queso and it was. This was my first time at a Moe's. I liked having a menu board to read while standing in line. I felt like I wasn't holding the line deciding. I ordered the veggie nachos. I was happy to see they had veggie everything options. On my nachos I had queso, black beans, pico de gallo corn/tomatoes, lettuce shredded cheese, sour cream, and jalapenos. Also I ordered an ice tea. The employees working the line were so friendly to me and others before and after me. The establishment was very clean and I didn't see any food bits dropped in other foods. In fact the hot foods had steam rising and the cold foods looked very fresh. Quite appealing, and the portions were generous. The sweet tea was sweet. I'd say it was at the top of sweet, sweet tea. Next time I might try non sweet. Also at the tea and drink counter is a salsa bar. Nice. Though everything was clean I'd like to see the plastic utensils not have plastic wrap sleeves on them. Each individual utensil and straw had plastic wrap. While it keeps germs away, that's a lot of extra trash. But again the place was very clean. I'd like to come back and try their veggie bowls too. Cost was about $10 but at Chili's or Glory Days , you have to tip whether your service and meal were good or bad. Here I didn't have to tip and I had control over what and how much I wanted. I saw my food as I was ordering. Not after. I cannot comment on the meats as I don't eat chickens, pigs or cows..

The environment used to be so unique and fun, the menu was fun, now it's so commercialized and cheap. Nothing tastes fresh anymore. This is a company wide issue not just this location. Sad to say I'm done going to any Moe's ever again. The cheese was horrible, no more cucumbers, limited toppings, and the meats are so low quality now compared to early days of Moe's. The chips even were bland and paper wafer tasting. The salsa bar is terrible, no more Kaiser salsa? That was a signature of Moe's. Also for this location specifically, learn how to wrap a burrito. Dude, for a Tex mex place, that's pretty sad. It was a mess.
