Dr. Wells is just the most fabulous orthodontist in all the land... well worthy of 6 stars if I…read morecould give them! He's genuine, thorough, and truly goes the extra mile to take care of his patients. I had braces for 3.5 years when I was in high school, and my previous orthodontist didn't take near the care that Dr. Wells provides, and his staff are equally as perfect as he is! Their office is conveniently located off Six Forks near 440 and is open Mon-Thurs 8-5 (though Dr. Wells is on-call all the time for emergencies). The office is new, modern, and very clean- they provide Keurig coffee & fruit infused water in the waiting area. They have a 3D panoramic x-ray in office so you don't have to get that done elsewhere. My favorite part about the office is the amazingly beautiful saltwater tank in the middle of the treatment area! I started receiving treatment in October 2014, and the workup was more thorough than I could have ever imagined! Dr. Wells focuses on aligning your jaw to fix your teeth, not just fixing gaps in your teeth. It's made such a difference in my bite, which I didn't even realize I had an issue with. Though I still have braces, I get them off in a few months.. and I must admit I'm really looking forward to the song they all sing when their patients get their braces off :) All in all, I couldn't say enough positive things about Dr. Wells and his staff... when it comes to patient care, they go above and beyond. Truly impressive!

My teen is being treated here. As far as the dental work, all seems good. However in terms of the…read morepractice, it is not an easy place to work with. Our initial experience wasn't great, getting the first visit scheduled took forever. That should have been my clue. Every appointment since has been very difficult to schedule. When my child is due to be seen, they have one appointment to offer. If that doesn't work, they will suggest something two weeks later. Well that adds two weeks to the treatment time - nobody wants that! Their appointments are only available between 8:20 and 3:20 (and I don't believe they are open on Fridays), so your child will always miss school for this (and you will miss work). Maybe this is a small sacrifice to make, but I wish I had known before we started here or I would likely have gone elsewhere.

I have two boys in braces with two totally different treatment plans and I can honestly say that I learned more in our consult in one afternoon I expected. I am now at ease and have faith in the whole proses and honestly don't have many questions at our follow ups because his education was so thorough pre treatment. An added bonus is the staff is exceptional and it is always a treat to see which theme the office is dressing up for!!!!

And while Dr. McNutt upfront offers a lot of fancy, digital software and tools, his actual technique for braces seemed surprisingly not much different than what was being done 20 years ago. Just to be clear, braces have a lot of purposes, some health-related, but most of it has to do with a person's "look." That's why your insurance company usually won't pay for most of it. So you can imagine that's why a dentist (like Dr. McNutt) might be very rigid in his approach to what he believes should be your ideal "look" or standard. When we spoke with Dr. McNutt about our child's services, he seemed to not have much time to talk about how we wanted to approach our child's individual care, and at one point, seemed to become very impatient- almost childish- in tone with us. Toward the end of a meeting, he essentially praised our daughter for being seen and not heard, which should be a red flag for anyone taking a child in for services. Do your own homework, but compared with equally (if not more experienced) dentists, Dr. McNutt was much more expensive. They're YOUR teeth and YOUR finished look (or your child's), so you should have some input in the approach to care, and shouldn't feel talked-down to or bullied for having an opinion about that. I would highly recommend shopping around before settling on this practice.
