If you DREAD going to the dentist... keep reading. This review is for you!!…read more This review is long overdue. I rarely leave reviews, but my experience with Cary Family Dental, especially Dr. Wooten, has stayed on my mind, and I felt like I needed to share it. I switched from my previous dentist over 3 years ago. While the dental work was good, the experience had started to feel transactional, more focused on what else needed to be done and the cost rather than care and compassion. Every visit made me anxious. I always felt like I was getting a report card and somehow never getting an "A." Eventually, I just stopped going. And if you know me, that is SO unlike me. I'm a "get it done" kind of girl and pretty tough, but when it came to the dentist, I was over it. My husband and son had been going to Cary Family Dental for years and kept encouraging me to go. I finally made the call, and from that first appointment, it felt different. My hygienist, Melanie (I hope I got her name right! ), was amazing. She was thorough, caring, compassionate, and immediately put me at ease. She's also been with the practice for many years, which tells you something. Then I met Dr. Wooten, and I truly cannot say enough about him. Right before the 4th of July weekend, I needed a crown on a tricky back molar. After the office had closed for the holiday, my temporary crown came off. I called the emergency number expecting I'd probably have to deal with it until after the holiday. Dr. Wooten called me right back. He was literally about to leave town for his own holiday weekend, yet he came back to the office to redo my temporary crown because he didn't want it coming off again and ruining my weekend. I felt terrible that I was delaying his travel plans. He was only concerned about making sure I was okay. That is the difference between simply receiving dental care and feeling genuinely cared for. The following week, he placed my permanent crown with the same kindness and attention to detail. Do I suddenly LOVE going to the dentist? Let's not get carried away. I still have anxiety. But I know I'm walking into an office where I'm going to be treated with kindness, compassion, and respect. After putting off the dentist for far too long, I finally feel like I've found "my people." Cary Family Dental is where my family goes, and now, very happily, it's where I go too. Dr. Wooten, thank you for going above and beyond when you absolutely didn't have to. It meant more than you probably realized.

However, from the moment I stepped into this office until my appointment ended, I was welcomed by caring, compassionate & highly-skilled medical professionals. Liz, my Dental Hygienist, & my dentist, Doctor Madden, kept me informed through each step of the process putting my mind at ease. As for attention to detail, even a long-neglected stain on a tooth was quickly removed. I left with a happy heart & a smile on my face. I highly recommend them!

I have been to Royal Oak Dental for many years. Lynn the Dental Hygienist is wonderful,…read moreprofessional, always a good experience she is true to her calling. There are some good office staff also. I went to Royal Oak Dental yesterday to have a temporary crown removed and a new crown put in place. The person that was to remove the temp crown started working on me but it was painful and I didn't know what to expect . This person was tugging at pullng the temp crown off pulled back with the instrument she was using and cut my lip she was not aware she did that until she saw the blood. I didn't have trust in her after that. Treat a patient like a person not a machine. I eventually had a numbing agent . Dr Smith is very clever and I believe he is good at what he does. He finally came along and gave me a perfunctory one liner that could infer I was responsible for this injury. He did what he had to do with the crown and stated he would come back when I had numerous xrays. Dr Smith never came back he must have got too busy.

Highly recommend, first dentist that believed and validated my pain when getting dental work done…read more I started visiting him 10 years ago when he was recommended for my son's tongue tie revision. We spoke briefly how i had a traumatic past with dentists and no one being able to keep me numb while getting work done. He asked if i had the red head gene (im naturally blonde but was born with red hair) I said yes and he said that's why. Today was a perfect example of him helping fix an old crown that needed replacing from a prior dentist. I was able to stay numb the ENTIRE time. the Crown was made in house so i didn't have to come back again. I was able to watch a movie during the process too. friendly staff and highly recommend if you have had pain at other places let him know and he will make sure to keep you comfortable.

Sorry, this is long but I felt the need to be thorough…read more During my first appointment with Dr. Jones, I was told I had 6 cavities that immediately needed to be filled. Given I had never in my life had a cavity, I decided to get a second opinion. I actually got 3 second opinions (I don't play when it comes to my health!!). All three dentists said that I did not in fact have cavities. The markings on my X-ray were all independently diagnosed by three different dentists as incipient lesions (pre-cavities or even pre-cavities that have been remineralized). Many old school dentists like to drill away at these before they get a chance to spread. The latest research supports watching these incipient lesions and attempting to remineralize the enamel to stop the spread of the decay. This can be done by means of good dental hygiene including regular flossing, fluoride treatments & prescription toothpastes. Of course, it's not guaranteed. Drilling and filling should be a last resort if the lesion begins to spread as revealed by serial X-rays over the course of multiple visits to the dentist. A good dentist compares X-rays to see if these cavities show any changes. I'm not a dentist nor am I attempting to give advice but I thought this was interesting. None of this was explained to me while I was getting my exam. All of this I learned from other dentists. I was just told by this office that I had 6 cavities and needed them filled as soon as possible. (Also, this may have been an honest mistake but I was told in the office that I had 6 cavities but later received an email estimate for only 5 cavities.) I wholeheartedly believe Dr. Jones has his patients' best interests at heart. He is very kind and immediately makes you feel comfortable. However, I believe his approach is a bit aggressive and maybe even a bit antiquated. As a nurse myself, I look for health professionals who use an approach that presents the least risks to the patient when possible while also implementing the most recent, up to date clinical research. TLDR: Very kind dentist but if you sit down in that chair and are suddenly prescribed a lot of work (especially if you have no significant dental history), definitely get a second opinion!!

We were charged $293 for a consultation that lasted under five minutes. The doctor didn't even examine her mouth--no physical check, nothing. They took one panoramic X‑ray (not a CT scan) and billed $167 just for that. I asked the front desk to apply our Aetna dental discount plan, and the staff had no idea what I was talking about. They simply repeated that the full amount was required. I called multiple oral surgeons in Cary/Raleigh afterward, and every single one quoted around $130 for the entire consultation, including X‑rays. I think this place is Overpriced, and charge way too much and no transparency in pricing. I think their charging/billing practices should be reviewed. This office's pricing is far outside the local norm, and the lack of transparency is unacceptable. I would strongly recommend asking for a full cost breakdown before agreeing to anything here.
