Visited Inspire Dental - Apex in August 2025. My family member does not speak English, so we had to accompany them for communication. The initial exam was extremely brief, with no clear explanation, no X-rays shown, and no introductions -- we didn't know who was the dentist or assistant. During the deep cleaning, a hygienist/assistant administered anesthesia and did the entire procedure without the dentist present or supervising. The dentist only appeared afterward, did not introduce herself, and gave no post-procedure guidance. I had to ask basic questions about care and eating afterward. Later, we were told additional fillings were required, which were never mentioned during the visit. Billing seemed excessive. When we raised concerns, the dentist adamantly insisted everything was done correctly, dismissed our questions, and offered no apology or acknowledgment. The receptionist was also unprofessional and dismissive when asked about billing. The clinic later refused to continue care rather than address the issues. Overall, this experience demonstrated arrogance, lack of transparency, and disregard for patient communication and rights. read more

Coming back to the triangle, I was looking for a new dentist. After extensive research I decided to give better dental a shot. I made the first appointment of the day and did not have to wait more than 5 minutes before being taken back. The dental hygienist (Shannon) was absolutely great. She did a phenomenal job cleaning my teeth and also great conversation as well. The atmosphere is great as well. They have a tv in the room I was in so probably great for children. Very clean and well staffed. On the way out they also offered me a cookie which I thought was nice (though kind of funny since it could be counterintuitive with a teeth cleaning). Overall, I loved this dentist office and will definitely be back for my follow up appointment. They take my dental insurance (Delta Dental) which was a great bonus as well. read more

I have been trying to get my info from my chart for a month now and I'm told by the staff that they GUESS my chart has been deleted because nothing pops up with my name on it Therefore I can't retrieve my x-rays or anything that was done to me in the office. Shady practices here - and some treatment plans for my family that didn't quite add up. In August 2018, my wife was told that she had a cracked filling, and that there was decay that was so deep that it needed a root canal. Weird thing was, you couldn't see that on the x-ray. The dentist says "sometimes you can't see everything on an x-ray"... then why take the x-ray??? Well she got two other opinions - and both of the other dentists suggested simply replacing the bad filling with a new one. This was logical since the filling was over 15 years old and nearing the end of its useful life. Certainly a root canal was NOT needed. Replacing the filling worked and now everything is fine. FYI- she had that done at another practice. I had a similar experience with my own treatment where they recommended a full crown when just a filling was needed!!! DON'T TRUST THESE PEOPLE- GET A SECOND OPINION... BETTER YET, GET ANOTHER DENTIST!!! Sad part is that they used to be so much more trustworthy and reliable when we first started seeing them in 2015-2016. Something happened to that respected dental practice and now they're just a "drill and fill" chop shop. Today was my first visit to Better Dental, and my first visit (yikes!) to the dentist since the pandemic started. I could not be happier with Better Dental. The office is bright and cheerful and modern, and the whole staff went out of their way to make me feel welcome and calm, right down to giving me a warm blanket while I was in the chair. We've been with Better Dental since practically the beginning. They had 5 stars at the time, so I was more than happy to check them out. We were very happy for a while. Over the years, there's been a decline in our treatment, and I felt it was finally time to cut ties and go elsewhere. Strike 1- the week of 2/20/16 my husband had a root canal and a tooth pulled. He was experiencing some pain for a few days later, and chalked it up to the procedure. Turns out, a fragment of his tooth was left in his gum, and they missed it. Luckily he didn't have an infection from this. Strike 2- I always roll my eyes when people say dentists look for things to charge you for. I'm a big fan of the dentist. I went for a cleaning, the hygienist said everything looked great, then a dentist (neither Dr. Draper or his brother) came in, chipped away at the back of my sealant and said 'oh, there's a cavity'. This team has always been very professional, but the look on the hygienists face said it all. Needless to say I got it filled because of course now there was a hole where my sealant used to be. Finally, Strike 3- I have a permanent retainer that goes along the back of my top teeth, I've had it forever. I also have a retainer I sleep with at night. About 6 weeks ago, both broke. I made an appointment for my impressions, got put on a payment plan, made a payment for $181. Three weeks go by. I call, and I'm informed that the first set of impressions were done incorrectly. They admit to their mistake, can I come back in? Sure. I come back in, and they do three more impressions. They tell me they're going to put a rush on it, and make a temporary external retainer so I at least have something at night until the permanent one comes in. Two weeks go by. I call and ask for an update. They tell me they can see me Saturday for the internal retainer but the external retainer (the one they said they would make a temporary one of, but never did) would require more impressions. I tell them I can only come in on Friday and I was told they were too busy then, and they could only do Saturday. Once Dr. Draper had heard of my frustrations he did offer to see me Wednesday but enough is enough. I've canceled my payment plan, and was informed I'm not getting my $181 back because the retainer was made (albeit 6 weeks late, their own fault and never placed in my mouth) Of course through the conversation with billing I discuss bringing them to small claims court, and they called my bluff. Fair enough, well done. They say money talks, I hope this Yelp review, and the fact they lost three valuable patients today, was worth the $181 to them. read more

I had to wait a long time to cool down to write this review. Back in June I drove out here from Durham to get my annual teeth cleaning. First off I hate going to dentist because I have a long history of dental trama... jaw surgery, teeth knocked out from sports...the works, so yes I am slightly traumatized but militant about keeping my teeth clean and healthy so I always go twice a year. ANYWAYS, I recently got married and switched all of my insurances over to my husbands AND we had just moved within the past year from out of state so I had missed my 6 month appointment and was desperate to just get in and get it done. 9:00AM: I check-in everything seems fine, I get the x-rays done on my teeth and wait in the chair for 30 min (I am patient because I get to chill and watch The Office). 9:30AM: I get out of my seat to find technician..is someone going to clean my teeth? I have to get back to work I have a meeting at 11am. "Oh yes sure. They are finishing up. We got the x-rays done quicker than usual so that's why you had to wait" I think OK that's kind of weird because x-rays have always taken less than 5 minutes in the 200 times I have had them done but OK. Then technician comes back .."actually we couldn't confirm your insurance".. I think to myself what the heck but I say you know what that's fine, I will figure that out later. How much is it to have my teeth cleaned without it? $85 (or so, I forget exact) I say oh, that's fine just go ahead and clean them and I will pay out of pocket. 9:45AM: I go see nice woman at front desk. The back room was empty no patients, no staff so I don't understand what is happening. She explains to me the x-ray thing too. I'm like, "actually there is no way you guys allow 45 minutes for x-rays. Is there a manager here? I don't work in a dental office but I have gone enough times to know that doesn't make sense." She says ok she will talk to someone and let me know. I remind her I know there was an issue with my insurance but I want to go ahead and pay out of pocket and she says that is no problem. I'm thinking girl just have someone clean my teeth so I can get out of here. 9:55AM: Obviously I have lost my patience, I go back to the front desk to find answers and the two front desk staff are in the office with the door shut talking. I knock on the door and ask what I'm supposed to do. She says they are calling the manager because they are out of town. HUH? Can someone just clean my teeth??? Obviously not, I say I just want to pay because I have to go back to work if no one is willing to clean my teeth. She doesn't charge me anything not even for x-rays which is shocking since they blocked off an entire hour for x-rays and didn't make any money off of it. Was it summertime and the boss was out of town and the staff was incapable of getting anything done?? Were they unwilling to clean my teeth because my insurance issue, even though I was willing to pay out of pocket? I am so confused. What a WASTE of so much time for everyone. Please communicate with your customers if there is an issue. Would I still be sitting in that chair if I didn't ask for updates?? This is the first time that we're doing a review for medical/dental services. Bar-none like any other dental experience you have had. We went in for our daughter's lingual frenuloplasty (remove the frenulum which restricts movement of the tongue...AKA tongue tie). Dr. Draper is one of only a handful in NC that utilizes a fiber-optic laser to cut. Offers more of a range and depth of the incision. We were speechless with how seamless the procedure was. The whole prep time was a few minutes. Actual procedure was maybe 10 seconds. Immediately after, they gave us privacy to nurse the baby right in the same room on a very comfortable rocker. Immediate and significant results to the way the baby was able to nurse. She was able to extend her tongue significantly farther to latch more efficiently and therefore draw more milk. I started going here based on a recommendation from a coworker. It was 10 minutes from my work office so it was easy to go to appointments and not miss a lot of work. The first time I went here Dr. David whipped out his guitar and sang to me! Hilarious. They also have TVs with Netflix for you to watch while you're at your appointment. I give the office staff 5 stars, although there are always different girls upfront. Cleaning and polishing are bare minimum. The hygienists were nice though. I did not have a problem with my tooth but the female "doctor" said there's a dark spot in there you need a crown and when we get in there you may need a root canal. As usual doctors are usually trusted. She cut off my tooth, glued another on, of a different color, that I did not choose, but I let it go because it was at the back. Ok. I came home and it kept hurting. I went back and she said it was too high so she took some off. I went for my cleaning layer and she asked about it and I said it was a bit sensitive. She did the blue paper thing and said some more needed to come off. She went in there and took off a whole lot plus some from the tooth behind it. I came home and could not chew on that side because it was now hitting the wisdom tooth. I went back and told them to fix it. I was told to fix it I may have to do a root canal. She walked out and sent in a male doctor who said that the path of least resistance was to take some off the wisdom tooth and had to take some off a bottom tooth as well. So to put a crown on one tooth I had a few other teeth damaged and now the teeth are so ground down I can hardly chew on that side. I will not be going back there and would not recommend them to anyone read more

I really hate to give them such a low rating but after several years as a patient, I have to. I came to Better Dental shortly after it opened because my old dentist retired. Things were good then - the office was nicely renovated, the office staff was friendly and helpful, and the dentist took my concerns about sensitive teeth seriously in a way my previous dentists never did. I quickly had issues with them not taking my gum erosion seriously, though. Some hygienists didn't even check the depth of the pockets in my gums despite my insistence because everything "looked healthy." I became worried I'd end up needing another root planing if it wasn't dealt with in time. Ultimately the roots of three teeth became exposed enough to need covering and one got infected, which I had another practice treat because Better Dental just wasn't getting it right. As the years wore on I began to notice a high staff turnover rate, as well as lengthy delays and a lot of confusion among the hygienists about where everyone else was and what they were doing at any given moment. Staff was always held up waiting for as long as 30 minutes for someone else to help them or answer a question, and spent a lot of time tracking other people down. There just wasn't any coordination or communication to prevent this. They hired enough new dentists that the original dentist only has to work one day a week, and the staff seems to struggle to accommodate each one's different way of doing things. It's just too complex now not to have procedures in place to make things go smoothly. The worst thing was all the times I had to have a procedure redone because it wasn't done correctly the first time. Some procedures had to be corrected multiple times, which is a bit mind-boggling. No matter how nice the staff is, at the end of the day I just need quality care for my teeth and I couldn't get that here. If you need anything beyond a routine cleaning this is not the best place. This place was nice at first and had a lot of potential, and I hope they fix the problems that popped up as they grew. read more

I started going to this office after moving to the area for work. They are close, and the facility is really modern and nice. I had a good feeling about them and brought the whole family to them. Then a few issues happened that ultimately led me to go elsewhere and take my family with me. 1. I am used to my dentist knowing me. But in this office you might get any number of different dentists, including some random dentists on rotation from other offices. 2. After over a year of coming there, one of the main dentists saw me and asked if it had "been a while" since I had seen a dentist. I come twice a year for checkups, which leads me back to point number 1. 3. I had a filling that needed to be replaced after the old one chipped. When they did the filling they went so deep they hit the root pulp and I had pain not only during the procedure, but for months after. I mentioned that there was pain for months after, and they said "maybe there is a crack in the tooth" and left it at that. They simply did not seem concerned and I left it at that. I was nervous to go back, and when it started hurting again I sought out help elsewhere. I ended up going to an endodontist who looked at the X-ray and said I needed a root canal from the damage done. Thank goodness I did, I had pulp stones and the area was really inflamed but they saved my tooth. I think this place has young, less experienced dentists. I need to know my dentist, and I need them to have more years under their belt. I cannot recommend this place based on my experience. I will be taking my family to a referral I got from the endodontist. read more

If you need dental emergency care when all others are offering appointments in October (!!), call Better Dental. They managed to take me in within a couple of days. And the positive surprises did not end there. The office is well organized and full of light, the atmosphere welcoming and friendly. What was even more remarkable was the detailed examination when creating my file and the extensive explanation of all the options open to handling the tooth problems. I have never experienced such in-depth examination in all the years I visited dentists. Finally, I was given a full written report of what needs to be done and a detailed estimate of the costs involved. I can only slightly recommend this place if you go on Wednesdays. That is the only date that the owner, Dr. Better, is there. In my experience he is the only dentist possibly worth seeing. Due to me seeing a different dentist every time that I went in, I feel like there was a lack of proper communication from the dentists and I feel like I have gotten ripped off. Long story short: I had my teeth cleaned and cavities filled and paid a lot of money out of pocket (no insurance). I had to go back numerous times for a bite adjustment due to a sore tooth. After about the 4th or 5th time back (and finally seeing Dr. Better) I was informed that I would need a root canal and this would cost me about the same amount that I had already paid. Of course I am not going to do that. Although its too early to tell, I fear that the same thing might be happening to my girlfriend. Also, the ladies at the front are not the warmest, in our experience, especially if you choose to reschedule. You can tell they aren't that happy to be there and are just faking their "friendly behavior". The positive reviews really let me down for this place. I have already given enough money to them for little in return and will not give them anymore. Time to find a better dentist. read more

Edit- while my experience with Dr Draper was good, his office has since changed their policy on how they handle the billing of a lip /tongue tie revision. They charge $650 upfront, they don't even check to see if your insurance covers anything,you have to pay that to get it done UPFRONT. I called to ask about this and the girl at the front desk was underwhelming at best! Dr. Draper and his staff were amazing. He corrected my babies tongue and lip tie so I could continue to breastfeed without pain. He was so kind and understanding. I cannot express my gratitude enough. read more

Edit: as of 11/22 we have received reimbursement from the practice while they continue to work the claim filing process with the insurance company. The staff has been friendly in each interaction, and it is my understanding that they are putting measures into place to prevent situations such as ours from occurring in the future for other families. I am thankful for the resolution of this situation and appreciate their resolve to keep working through this. As a result I am changing my star rating from 1 to 4. We are still waiting proper and correct claim filing for a procedure our daughter had completed in April 2021. We were told by the practice that we would have to pay out of pocket and then file the claim ourselves which we did. It was received by our insurance company six days after her procedure only to be told by insurance that they are an in-network provider and would have to file it for us. The most recent example of their inability to file paperwork correctly is the member ID was left off of the claim. Our insurance company contacted them on October 26, 2021 asking for a correction and to date this has not been corrected. There is zero motivation to help patients when they receive payment up front. While the dentist himself handled our daughter's tongue tie revision well, the assistant who told us we were going to have to forcefully restrain our daughter to complete the after care (totally unrealistic and inappropriate after care instructions for a 19 month old toddler), and the sheer incompetence of office staff to complete basic paperwork are two valid reasons I do not recommend this practice. There are far more competent and capable practices in this area who can provide quality care and complete administrative tasks in a professional, timely, and accurate manner. read more

Update from my first writing. My wife has been contacted by the new Office Manager and upon conversation they have agreed that no charge should have happened to us. Seems that this New Manager had to do a lot of house cleaning when she came on board and it seems we were not the only one that issues like this had happened. So they are reviewing every account and making good on an promises that were given. Glad to to hear that! Always feel bad for a business that was taken advantage of by a previous Manager to put a blemish on their record and reviews. So I am updating there star rating to a 4 now. As I said before Dr. Draper's Dental work in general is first rate. We thank them for adjusting our account and making good on previous management promises. As the GSM of a much larger retail store in Raleigh, I am happy to see there office step up and do the right thing. Dr. Draper is much coveted by locals in the area, that is how I first came into his office which was by a referral of a neighbor and her mother who loved him. Their use of technology is super thorough and impressive, they are organized and timely, and the people are kind and know their stuff! Ila, our hygienist, was so good with my 8-year-old, and with me when it was my turn too! Dr Dave rounded out the experience with a professional and thorough exam for both of us and not only came up with a great game plan for my little one's cavity and some other issues, but also surprised us at the end of our appointment by bringing in his acoustic guitar and serenading us with my WV home state song, Country Roads. I needed to have 3 fillings replaced by another dentist. The first 2 right away due to extreme pain and horrific work. My fixer dentist confirmed it was poorly done. The 3rd just recently fell out when flossing. My fixer dentist had it tagged as being watched because it was also done poorly. There's so much more I could say but just stear clear. Know that they encourage good reviews by promising an entry in a sweepstakes. They buy Yelp and Google points. Good luck! read more

I am so impressed with this dental office. I just moved to the Raleigh area and after calling around to many offices, I went to Better Dental mainly because their prices were 1/2 of the dentists in Cary and Raleigh. Not only was the price affordable but the service was fantastic. The office is so smartly laid out and comfortable. For example no lights on the ceiling to blind you while you are in the chair. The office hours are fantastic too, opening at 7 am to go in before work. I have serious dental anxiety but I feel good here. Stop it. What?!? Look, I know it's been awhile since I've seen a dentist, but Better Dental is clearly doing this whole dentistry thing... better. I walked in for my appointment (which you can schedule and fill out any necessary forms for online) and was immediately greeted by a team of smiling hygienists and receptionists. Gone was the seventies era faux forest wallpaper and droning, persistent elevator music of my childhood dentist's lobby. Better Dental opts instead for a bright, modern seating area with upbeat current pop hits floating down from an impressive sound system. Their staff is incredibly friendly. Like "no one should be this friendly and happy at work," kind of friendly. I wanted to make them all my friends immediately. When my hygienist called me in and showed me to her cleaning station, I was so relieved to see a giant window providing tons of sunlight. No creepy overhead lamp here - they've replaced it with a screen offering various entertainment options and your dental xrays if you're having them done. My cleaning was quick and painless, and I was so comfortable that even those pesky x-ray bite plates couldn't get me down. And then there's Dr. Draper himself. Clearly this guy is the root (see what I did there?) of Better Dental's fresh, quirky, fun atmosphere. He walks into my cleaning station, guitar in hand, introduces himself, and then asks if he might play me a song. Why, yes, doc, of course you can sing me a song! He serenades we with a lovely ballad, I applaud, and then he launches right into discussing my x-rays. Awesome. Congrats, Better Dental, on completely redefining what it is to "go to the dentist." My visit wasn't a task or a chore, it was an experience, and a fantastic one at that. I live in downtown Raleigh and would make this drive again without batting a lash -totally worth it. I broke a crown last year and needed a dentist. I was new to town and didn't know where to go . I found Better Dental and have been so glad that I did. They were able to see me that day, and create a new permanent crown on the spot. Their staff is positive, friendly and very efficient. I was able to fill out all my forms online, and go in to the chair almost as soon as I arrived. Dr. Draper was fantastic - he worked with me as we found that i have a low sensitivity to injected novocaine, and checked in constantly to make sure I was comfortable. Since that visit, my whole family have become regular clients - he's fitted my partner with invisaglign braces, and we've seen fantastic results! We heard about this place through a lactation consultant who told us that our baby's problem with breastfeeding was due to tongue tie. Either ENT's or dentist can fix tongue tie, but is amazing how little information is available online about doctor's who specialize on this. After reading a few articles online on tongue tie, we called the place to check if they were knowledgable. We were confident enough to make an appointment. The staff was very friendly, check-in was quick and Dr Draper was awesome. He checked our baby, answered all our questions and was very friendly and relatable. He decide to go on with the procedure. We have had very poor experiences with this dental firm. Bear with me as it gets worse as it goes along. We moved to North Carolina a year ago and chose Better Dental as our dentists. The firm is owned by two young dentists who are brothers. One just graduated in 2016. They are young and flashy. In fact, on our first visit one played guitar and sang while the hygienist worked. They also gave you a cookie after each visit, which I found strange for a dentist. A few months ago, my wife scheduled a visit for a dentist to fix a situation where food caught between her tooth and an implant. Both dentists were gone so they brought in a sub. She waited in chair forever and people were leaving. Finally, the sub worked on her but was unable to perform the procedure. When we scheduled our regular cleanings they ended up cancelling us because of a snow storm despite the fact no snow was expected until later. We rescheduled but they called right before that one hygienist was out so they rescheduled me. The real problems started when we got there. Normally a cleaning takes 35 to 40 minutes. For some reason, the Hygienist was done in about 20 minutes, half the time. The doctor then came in and spent about 5 seconds looking inside my mouth without a mirror. The bigger problem was when my wife got there after me. The dentist said she had a loose screw on a tooth and it would cost $1,000 to fix. The dentist also said he could fix the food being caught for $1,600 by putting on a crown. They asked her to call her prior dentist back in Indiana to determine the type of screw used for the first procedure. When I called that office, I asked how much putting that screw back in cost and they said no more than $200 if uninsured. In fact, the screw was under warranty and should be free. We then went for a second opinion for the crown procedure. The second dentist said a crown was unlikely to fix the problem and that it could be managed without dental work. So Better Dental was going to charge us $2,600 for unnecessary or under warranty work which should have totaled $0. read more

I love this place! The best dental office I've been to in all 28 years of my life. Greeted with coffee, water, tea, cookies!! I went in for a dental implant and was extremely nervous. The entire time I watched a movie and was in the best hands I could ask for. They were gentle and cautious. They spoke to me throughout the entire step and made sure I understood costs that my insurance would not cover. I wish I could go back but I have moved. I have MetLife and they accepted this.
