I saw Mark Stephenson from 5/15/2020 until 12/21/2021 and I will not be returning. I recommend that others truly think about their decision before choosing this office (especially if you are a POC). I have seen another professional in the Tri area since this incident, and that is what inspired me to share my horrific experience with Colonnade Dental. The other dentist has truly taken care of me, answered all questions, and it's clear they care about ALL of their patients and doing their job correctly. At my initial consultation to receive orthodontic treatment, I was told that my case was an easy fix and it would only take ONE YEAR. Fast forward a year and 7 months later and this is how Mark Stephenson left my teeth with no apology, explanation, concern, or sympathy. At each appointment (once a month), I expressed that I felt like my teeth were moving in the wrong direction, but I was told "teeth are moving to make space" "things will get worse before they're better". Each time I believed them and TRUSTED that they were doing their job correctly. At each appointment, Mark Stephenson never looked at any previous notes from my past appointments and gave the same generic response about the progress of my teeth "It looks like they're moving," Finally, on 12/21/21 I showed him current pictures of my teeth and explained that the alignment is worse now than when I first started treatment. He pulled up the original pics I took at the consultation and agreed they are worse now. His excuse was that "he sees so many people he doesn't remember the original state of someone's teeth." If that is the case, then he should be sure to review any previous notes or pics BEFORE seeing the patient. At that moment I asked him what his plan was to fix the issue that they caused because it has been over a year of him saying "things are moving" and clearly they aren't moving in the right direction. He then asked me with an attitude "do you want your damn money back?". Yes, that's right he cussed at me. I had not raised my voice, cussed, or threatened him in any way. All I did was show him current pics of my teeth that showed we were moving further away from the end goal discussed at my original consultation. He removed my braces the same day (12/21) with no care. His assistant and he allowed water to spray all over my face and leak down my neck and shirt all because he was mad that I spoke up about his malpractice. I saw another orthodontist the same day he took my braces off and they had to remove glue that he purposely left on my teeth. During his treatment, they caused a hole to appear on my canine tooth. I asked him about this hole several times and he said he doesn't know what it is and he hasn't seen this in his many years of dentistry. He never acted like it was big deal and patched it up (I also didn't like this experience because he stuck the numbing needle in my gum without notice). A few weeks after he patched the hole, I noticed my tooth was turning black. At the end of my orthodontic treatment, I asked him about the hole again and why my tooth was now turning black and once again he said he didn't know. When I sought treatment elsewhere, I had to have a root canal performed on my canine tooth. A root canal was something that I did not know I needed to have done, because Mark Stephenson never bothered to be concerned about the hole in my tooth (even after I mentioned it at several appointments). I spoke to another WOC in the lobby once who shared that she would be expressing concerns during her appointment because her teeth looked worse since starting her orthodontic treatment with this office. I also have seen another WOC run into the lobby in excruciating pain after a procedure she had done by him earlier that day, she was in so much pain they had to treat her before me. Because of the malpractice I experienced throughout my treatment, I do not recommend anyone seek treatment from this office. Mark Stephenson called me the day after he cussed at me and never apologized for cussing or losing his cool. During the call, he told me that a tooth would need to be removed in order for treatment to continue and that I should just come back to him because other dentists cost more than him. After months of expressing concern, he finally gave me a progressive plan to get treatment back on track. Unfortunately, it was too late since he had already cussed at me, caused a tooth to turn black, and took no responsibility for the malpractice. Clearly, he only cares about getting the money back and not about his patients. To this day I never received an apology from him for cursing at me or the malpractice. If you have had a similar or worse experience with Mark Stephenson, I encourage you to file a claim with the NC State Board of Dental Examiners. read more
