It wasn't. Second visit was the margherita as-is plus a New Haven pie with beef pepperoni. Both exceptional. The sauce is what really sets it off. Growing up in the South, I had no idea what good pizza was until I moved to CT. Leaving that behind was the thing I expected to miss most about Connecticut.
