We're in Cleveland for Hockey Nationals so of course, eating on the road. My daughter wanted a calzone so I found this place nearby our hotel. The restaurant is in a strip mall, nothing special from the outside and upon entering, really nothing special on the inside. Walking in we didn't receive a warm friendly greeting, no offer to be seated, no menus to look at, and then it just got weirder. We looked online at the menu and picked from there. As I said, my daughter opted for a calzone with sausage, pepper, onion, and ricotta. I got a white pizza with mushrooms, onions, broccoli, and I asked for black olives but there was none on it, and no cheese by request. We decided to take it back to our hotel to eat. The calzone was huge and my daughter said it was really good and had good flavor. The sauce to dip in was fantastic too. My pizza was loaded with toppings (minus the black olives I was missing) but the crust certainly could've been cooked longer so I was a bit disappointed in that. The flavor needed something a little more too so I added some pepper flakes and used some of the sauce my daughter had. read more

This is a small pizza shop. It has larger width in front and has tables with more seating up front. As you go to the back you find more seating. The shop dedicates it's space to it's pizza oven were they create their handcrafted masterpieces. The pizza reminds me a lot of my old NYC Pizza. While you sit there and wait you will see people walking in to pick up their takeout orders. The employees are very nice. What's best is that they sell their pizza by the slice. That is so important when you are trying to lose weight and do not want to be tempted by purchasing an entire pie. This is easily one of the top 3 pizza places in all of NE Ohio, and as far as a 'NY style' pie, tied with Gina's of Bay Village. Incredible pizzas, including delectable thick crust 'Sicilian style' ('square', as they call it in Brooklyn, NY). The crust, sauce, and cheese on these pizzas are perfect! One of the keys to a great 'NY style' pizza is using Bari ovens, or similar, which they do. I tried both the regular and Sicilian styles, and I was brought back to my childhood in The Bronx then Northern New Jersey! And I even dipped the crust in my Coca-Cola, which is uniquely a Bronx trait! This is the stuff of pizza lore, as the famous and now defunkt Stella-D'Oro factory was located in that area, and their famous biscottis and breadsticks were always dipped in coffee! Then kids and teens started dipping their pizza crust in sodas like Coke, Root Beer, 7-Up, etc. Eventually, many citizens that lived around that area started to dip their pizza crusts in soda pop, and it spread throughout the tri-state area (NY, NJ, CT) back in the 60's and 70's! What is goin on with this places prices??? Has anyone looked online, it's $55 for a large/18" deluxe. That is absolutely insane. I tried a 14" cheese which came in at $22, also pretty crazy. It was nothing special, sauce has no flavor whatsoever, and it wasn't nearly thin enough to be called ny style pizza. Pizza wasn't awful, just average but those prices are laughable my dudes. I must say that I was looking forward to Capri Pizza I remember them being in the Great Northern Mall they've been around since 1976 it's a very interesting place . You can tell that there has been no love on the interior because it's mostly take out the floors show a lot of wear it's an old original floor The place is not for eating even though they have tables The employees are both well versed in making pizza but they don't have the background in the intricacies of making sauce or making dough or buying the correct cheese but they do a great job with what they have that I can say. So I went in with specific requests it advertises as a New York style pizza place so I asked for a certain pizza and let them build the first one on their own which was very good except for not what I wanted I wanted light cheese I wanted flavor what I got was a crunchy pizza where the dough was okay didn't have much flavor the sauce was very generic and the cheese was parked skim mozzarella. Then I asked one of the cooks to build a second pizza wanting them to use half of the amount of dough that they used I wanted to get it really crunchy extra thin crust and then half the cheese and cook it well done to see if we could get close and it wasn't again a flavorless pie cook well crunchy not a lot of cheese it was good but it wasn't great and the prices are out of this world hi for what you're getting. I've been eating this pizza since they were at the Great Northern mall food court back in the 70's. I still love it! I'm a westside resident. The few New York style pizza places I found near me were lousy. These pies are GOOOD! The garlic pie, broccoli tomatoe add bacon, or my favorite 1/2 pepperoni 1/2 mushrooms are delicious! A carb lover's dream! Love Capri! It's pretty much like a localized version of the old Sbarro chain they used to have in malls in the '90s! I think Sbarro still exists? They make NY style pizza dough fresh daily...everything from calzones, strombolis, pizza rolls, and of course, pizza! Their pizza slices are big, thin and foldable, like a NY style pie should be. They have a big selection of pizzas and pizza rolls ready to sell by the slice/piece. They'll just warm it in the oven for you for a few minutes and that's it! They also have salads and pastas like any other Italian place, but I haven't tried any of those. I'm sure they're just as delicious though! Prices are very reasonable and they have plenty of seating of you decide to dine in. It's fast casual, so just order and pay at the counter. Workers are fast and friendly and they give me that old school pizza shop vibe for some reason. I like that! Have heard a lot about this spot in my search for New York style pizza, and finally got a chance to check it out. Unfortunately it did not live up to the hype. The slice was pretty standard sized and was severely overpriced at $6.40. Considering the average slices at top tier slice shops in New York average around $4.50-$5.50, the slice has better be amazing at those prices. Even Edison's in Cleveland, the gold standard for slices in Ohio, is only around $5 a slice. Quality, however was just "pretty good", and I can't justify giving a good review to a "pretty good" average-sized slice that costs $6.40. To sum it up, the pizza is okay, but severely overpriced. read more

Pizza is excellent very affordable, pies are huge, thin crispy dough, sauced just right, if thou want a taste of New York I highly recommend it, they don't skimp out on the cheese either. Crust was delicious wife usually doesn't east crust I took a few bites & she was already asking for my crust which I love crust but hey can't disappoint the wife. My mother who is very picky loved it I was really impressed how attentive the owner & the staff was with all their customers, even when on the phone you can really feel how genuine & passionate they were taking orders. In the area from Pittsburgh, asked the hotel clerk for a recommendation. He told me about all the big chains - I'm not a big chain guy , I like to discover amazing small places. I found this place, Capri Pizza. This place is AMAZING! You can definitely notice all the fresh ingredients..and the pizza sauce..delicious..you con actually see small chunks of tasty tomato. Also, I forgot to grab a receipt, called in a couple hours later and the person who I spoke with went about be and beyond to provide me with one. Growing up in the western suburbs of Cleveland, your choice of shopping malls was either Parmatown or Great Northern. When I went to Great Northern and it was lunch or dinner time, I almost always got Capri Pizza that was located in the food court. No longer at the mall, I was excited to see it re-open in Middleburg Heights. Pizza comes two ways. Neapolitan (thin crust hand tossed) which is my favorite or Sicilian (thick crust pan).
