We got off the highway to go to Perkins pancake house only to find that it burnt down or something because all there was was a concrete slab. So we switched to Marlins. Food was OK. Service was not the best but everyone has an off day I guess. Update: The manager promptly reached out to get details of the issues we experienced. It's always a great sign when the management is concerned and looking to improve the experience for their guests. His concern was appreciated and I'm confident any issues will be addressed. read more

Tried buffet, not worth the money. More bones than ribs, no meat in the spaghetti, food was just barely warm and had to ask several times about dessert. Service was lacking. All n all a disappointing stop for dinner. read more

Where do I start... the workers got upset at each other, and we heard cursing from the kitchen. The eggs were good, hamburger dry, chicken was garbage, and the potatoes... don't get me started on those... they were disgusting, undercooked, and the type of food i will never eat again. read more

Stopped at Marlin's this morning. We stop there often when in the area. Very good food, reasonable prices. Good service. And we had great service from our server today, great food too. Now for the male manager today was very out of line & rude to a male waiter who was a great server!! The manager is the one who was out of line for not seating us, tryed to discourage us from even eating there as they were busy. I have managed & worked at restaurants off & on my whole life. They were not that busy. The manager made us wait to be seated even though there were several empty tables. The server was doing his job after seeing us standing at the door for about 10 minutes & seated us. He was doing his job & then the manager chewed his butt off for it, in front of customers. Very inappropriate!! read more

Big breakfast menu-good all day. Reasonable prices and large portions. Needed to try a "new" food and went for the Tater Kegs. Tasty oversized tater tots, 1or2 could make a meal. Serving feeds the whole table! Plenty of tables and booths but decor is dark,a little dreary and showing its age. Very busy for Saturday night dinners. read more

From the city of the one and only corn palace, we send forth this cautionary tale to the traveling diner. If you think to yourself when you arise in the morning, I would enjoy and hot breakfast prepared for me. You will look for breakfast options in this fine city and find one. Rather than take the plunge into the the turbulent tides of Marlins family restaurant, break out the pans and make your own culinary delight. We dined in this establishment and we found a meal fit for subaverage expectations. Do not look for waffles, toast that was toasted butter "not spread" , benedict that has hollandaise. We enjoyed the wait staff and it was quick and the food sufficed. As a last resort this diner will do in a pinch. read more

Conveniently located off I90. You can refuel and fuel up. Great choices on the menu. Typical American fare. Service was great. Sam was attentive and always smiled. Cute little place. Plenty of room for my large family and the wait staff was nice. She never did bring me a water though. I had the buffalo chicken sandwich and fries and it tasted really good. The kids had a mix of breakfast, chicken nuggets, mac and cheese and cheese curds. No complaints from any of them. My son did say the cheese curds did not taste like the ones from Wisconsin but they still tasted good. Prices were reasonable. Would definitely stop again if we were near by. read more

Customer service was good but I tried to order over the phone and nobody answered. As I waited for my food to come out after going inside to order the phone just kept going off and didn't get answered. I wanted the pot roast dinner but they were out, no ribs and no chicken tenders. The waitress looked super busy while 2 other workers were just cleaning, waitress still did a good job so I tipped her. It's not her fault y'all ran out of ingredients. We went for breakfast and had excellent service and enjoyed the food. I had the breakfast special which was eggs, hash browns and pancakes. My husband ordered the veggie omelette. The scrambled eggs were cold but the hash browns were made exactly as I requested. They had no problem quickly taking care of the eggs. Everything was good and the portions were generous. We couldn't finish everything. We were there on the day they had a special with coffee just a quarter. This is a place the locals visit and I see why! read more

Love a truck stop diner combo. You can end up getting some great food. This is one of those times! Got seated right away and helped by a very kind smiling waiter. Love the mason jar glasses and the old fashion gas station decor. Our food took a little bit as the crowd started coming in but worth the wait. I tried the cinnamon roll French toast. Oh yum! So sweet! If you like both those things you will be in heaven! I put a little syrup on it but really it didn't need it. They take their fresh made cinnamon rolls and slice in half and cook them up like French toast. So much food! Hubby got the pork omelette. It was an omelette stuffed with pulled pork and fried onions on top with hash browns, and toast. He couldn't finish it all. We were both stuffed and the service was great. read more

I want to love Marlin's but it just keeps missing the mark. We've been coming here for years. Unfortunately, Marlin's is understaffed like many restaurants. The staff they have worked like crazy while we were there, but we still waited 20 minutes for waters after being seated and 65 minutes from when we were seated until when we were served our food (3 people in our group). We saw many people leave after waiting so long, but decided to stay. The food was just mediocre at best. I would suggest the breakfast menu. read more

This Is a family friendly restaurant. It was very good; they cooked our food to our exact specifications. My husband had the bacon cheeseburger which came with four slices of bacon; it was very good and I had the hamburger steak with tator tots, salad, and corn; it was very good too. Service was good, the food was a little slow coming out but that was fine with us. If you just need a bite to eat this will be able to take care of anyone in your group. PS. Stopped after driving all day and for fuel. Ordered chicken strips, and two burger patties, coffee, and a sprite. The coffee was old and burnt, and 45 mins later and the few other tables were served I asked where my food was to another waitress, because mine never came back except to slap the bill in front of me after ordering. The waitress went into the kitchen talking to the cook who very loudly said "I only have so much cook space." I tried to get her attention to tell her to forget the order but Lickey split out she come with food. I walked out to my truck to feed me and my dog to find cold strips and burgers. Man i was pissed and 28.00 less in the pocket. The fact I was so tired kept me from returning in, which I never will return! and no she did not get TIPPED! read more

I love Subway and have rekindled that love when it was time to lose weight. 3 months ago in between travel. Subway is also a quick and healthy decision at any time of the day. With that said, my friend wanted to shop at Walmart and I picked up a footlong sub here. The reason why this experience stuck out to me was that the service was sloppy as I saw the sandwich artist make the sandwich. The sloppiness came when she was loading the veggies and you could tell that she may be a newbie or still in training. A bunch of it spilt back into the veggie holding trays and it was a bit messy. I watched as she fumbled around with what fell out with what was still on the sandwich. It was a tragic display and definitely disappointed. The recalibration of the sandwich was awkward and the final product was disappointing. Although the end result was still a sandwich, she wrapped it in a careless fashion and put it in the paper bag without much thought. I then asked for 3 cookies, which she was good with. Needless to say, it was different. Usually don't see that in Subway, but you can see how people perform at work, like they really don't want to be there and trying to half ass things so time goes by faster. Been there but don't let anyone see it. It is what it is. The sandwich was delicious and I got the spicy Italian with the American cheese. The overall experience here at this particular Subway location in Sioux Falls, South Dakota was a departure from what I usually experience at a Subway or any fast food restaurant, in terms of service. You get to see how your order is being made at Subway, whereas the other fast food giants are made in the back and presented to you within 5-10 minutes of ordering. While the service was the major influence driving this review, it doesn't change the fact that I still love the company and what it represents to me. Maybe that staffer had a bad day that day and I saw it unfolding with my order. Who knows. Still, the sandwich was legitimate, and I enjoyed the taste of processed meat in the spicy Italian, especially the pepperoni. But the most part, though, it was an interesting ordeal to say. I would probably not come back to the subway, if my travels permitted me to do so just because of the experience I had here. Unless, of course, if there is a need to come. I tried to order with my SUBWAY® app, but it would not load properly, so I just did it randomly, and had my app scan the QR code and paid that way. There's not one thing that I don't love about so babe, but the attitude displayed by this subway stuff for made me rethink things. Sure we all have our bad days, but you shouldn't have it on display for customers to see. However, if you're in the area and need a bite to eat, this subway can be the one that is the solution for you. This Subway location is inside a Walmart superstore in downtown Mitchell, South Dakota next to the entrance and the cashiers. It's address is 1101 East Spruce Street here in Mitchell, SD. They accept major credit cards, as well as cash. As far as parking goes, you're basically Walmart so they have a very generous parking option for y'all to park and shop here while grabbing a Subway for lunch or dinner. Not sure about the local public transportation system here in Mitchell, But best bet would be to have a rental car or a local friend in the area to drive you. If nothing else, you can use Uber / Lyft wherever available. And so, this episode of Subway fails comes to an end but hopefully it's one of those things where it's just isolated when not a chronic problem or issue. Hopefully it's not. Bad days happen to us all one way or another. Subway is great for those who love sandwiches and to those who want to eat healthy vs the traditional fast food restaurant. Consider Subway as your quick and healthy meal or snack solution during your travels in South Dakota and the surrounding region. 3.0 stars for the overall experience. 1.0 stars for the service. 4.0 stars for the food and 3.0 stars for the prices. 5.0 stars for the location since we needed to stop here on the way to the airport. This particular Subway is located in Walmart so I am always skeptical of restaurants situated…read moreinside a store, but I was craving a sub so i bit the bullet and went inside. It took a minute for someone to recognize that I was standing at the counter, but in their defense, one young lady was sitting on the floor stocking cups or something, and I am short so I can understand not seeing me. Once I was seen, the server was extremely pleasant. I ordered my Veggie sub with all the non-meat fixins'. I grabbed a bag of chips and a drink to make it a combo. The veggie sub was filling and tasty. It was also nice to eat in a clean store so I give them props for that as well.
