Steak, Chicken and Shrimp Fajitas
Hendra W.

A locally owned Mexican restaurant -- not the greatest, but tasty. They serve lunch on weekdays until 3 PM. After that time, an additional $1.50 per person is charged.

Chilaquiles with beef

I came here on a recommendation from a colleague. I'm only I. Town for a few months and always try to get some comfort food wherever I go. Being from So. Cal originally and now from TX, I have eaten my fair share of Mexican food, and I love it. I was immediately greeted by the host and seated. I ordered my tea, and he came back with that and chips/salsa. The chips were fresh and the salsa flavorful, but it needs heat. It seemingly had no peppers in it at all, but it was still good. I ordered the chilaquiles with beef (not steak as the menu says) as it was the 1st thing to jump out at me. They came in a decent amount of time. I wouldn't say they were fresh as not one chip had a crunch to it. They were good, but sweet. It had a very pasta sauce sweetness to it. The rice was fluffy and moist, but had no real taste to it. The beans were okay and needed salt. I won't likely order this again as it didn't really sit on my taste buds in a good way. I will go back and try something else. I will always give a place a 2nd chance, but never a 3rd.

Stopped here during a road trip and was so excited to receive this warm comfort food. I browsed the vegetarian section of the menu and got the vegetarian quesadilla but switched the flour tortilla to a corn tortilla. The server came to us regularly to refill the chips and salsa and was very polite. There were cartoons playing on multiple TVs and plenty of booth seating.

Beef burrito lunch # 2

Amazing food and service!! Salsa is also so good every single time. We come by for lunch at least once a week if not for supper another night. Fajitas have so much flavor and the burritos are massive! I also love that they have cartoons on the television for the kids in the restaurant! 10/10 P.S we travel and every time we try another Mexican restaurant we always look forward to coming back here!!

enchilada and quesadilla grande, pacifico on tap and margarita--both with tajin rimmer

Everything was great! The service was great--they modified our orders and even had homemade hot sauce. They have a nice selection of beer on tap as well as bottled, and the original margarita was good as long as you like it on the sweet side. The food was an 8/10 on my scale of comparison to an authentic mexican restaurant. For example: they have great stuffed poblanos but no birria options or street corn. I highly recommend if you are wanting a well rounded mexican meal!

Tried this place for fun at lunchtime. Chips & salsa (mild). Good food & atmosphere. I ordered huevos chorizo. Good flavor chorizo balanced with refried beans & rice. My husband liked this fajitas with bland spices (doesn't like much spice). Friendly customer service. Clean bathroom.

OMG... Best Mexican food I have EVER tasted. Super fast and awesome staff. If you are visiting Mitchell on your way to see Mt. Rushmore stop in and have some great food.

chicken soft tacos, combination plate and cocktail.

We wanted a quick carry out due to COVID conditions, I'd rather not eat indoors. Without a menu, it was helpful that the person answering the phone was friendly and helpful as I put together my order. My chicken soft tacos were delicious, and my husbands combination plate was very good. I was able to order a margurita "to go," and it was put into a bottle for me. Everything was well packed.

Margarita-needs lots more tequila

Not bad Mexican food in SD! We've had bad luck finding good Mexican living here but it's 4 out of 5 stars in my book. Best place in Mitchell

Once again Yelp pointed out another great restaurant slightly off the beaten path. El Columpio…read moremeans the swing and there are swings for seats around the windows. The swings looked like fun, but given my age and the delicious sangria I had, a regular chair was the safest choice. The place was spotless and the service was fast and friendly. And the food was delicious. I'm from Montana so my taste is probably on the mild side. The chili rellano was perfect for me. There were sauces on the table so I am sure you could season any dish to your taste. And you should have the sangria for sure.

On our way to Sioux City, my sister and I stopped by El Columpio because she wanted to try their…read morebirria, which I thought I'd seen on their Yelp review. El Columpio is situated in a free-standing structure that looks as if a previous fast-food establishment might have been there. The dining room simple and clean. We felt welcomed and the staff is very friendly. So we were expecting a place where you walk up to the counter to place your order and get a number to pick-up your order when ready (or some variation of this). We were greeted immediately and invited to sit down. I looked up at the front wall where typically the menu items and prices are listed. This turned out to be only half of what I expected. That is to say, only menu items were listed but there no prices listed, and no birria either! Their tri-fold sleeved menu didn't have birria on it either. All these observations suggest that perhaps El Columpio might have been previously-located elsewhere; and had now semi-modified their service process. So I asked about the birria and the server replied it's not on the usual menu but they have it by request, he checked his computerized menu, and said that we could get three quesa birrias for $19.95 (or just created the menu item). Our three quesa birrias came in a platter with rice and beans and a little bit of shredded iceberg lettuce. When the birria platter arrived I immediately thought it looked really greasy and only ate the interior meat portion. I also that perhaps the meat tasted more like shredded pork rather than the traditional goat meat that is usually in birria. My chef friend informed ne that such substitutions are common but we should been inform of them too. Despite our expections being a bit off, we both thought that $19.95 for this platter was excessive. My sister even said that she would have preferred going to Taco Bell than to El Columpio.
