Salmon & Couscous
Lorianne L.

I was pleasantly surprised with the lunch I had at the Marketplace Cafe at Nordstrom in Arlington, VA. I didn't have high expectations for lunch at the mall, but my Salmon & Couscous was restaurant quality and highly enjoyable. I ordered & paid at the counter, then found a spot to relax. They brought out my food and drinks, checked on me, and I left relaxed and satisfied. Well done, Nordstrom Marketplace Cafe!

I had two fabulous lunches there while in that area for a family wedding. It's a great place to eat when you want something fabulous to eat while solo or with friends/family in a casual, pleasant, relaxing environment. The music volume level is always just right for quiet conversation. It's a little tasty food oasis within the mall that saves you long waits at restaurants or the craziness of the food court. And if you like to eat alone sometimes like I do, it's the perfect place to do that and not be bothered. You order at the counter as you enter, and I love being able to see some of the food specials prepared and presented in a little display there. Then you go to your seat and the server will bring your food and drink. On my second visit I had the pleasure of getting to talk to CJ at the register as I ordered and he was everything I love about Nordstrom: knowledgeable, personable, fun, and classy. He helped me select absolutely delicious items: a chicken pot pie cup of soup, a Caesar salad with blackened wild salmon, and a lemon ricotta cookie special. It was all so good that I also ordered a cheddar herb biscuit to go to take with me on my plane ride home (and that was amazing also). Thank you to CJ and the staff at the cafe for the wonderful food and service.

I remember when I was in High School, Nordstrom Cafe was the bougie thing to do with the girls. Fast forward to now, it's still a thing to do. At least with my girls. Nordstrom's has a personal shopper experience now and for those who want to shop in private, and eat without the hustle of going in Pentagon City Mall, then "Marketplace Cafe" is the way to go! I didn't catch when they changed their name but it will always be Nordstrom Cafe to me. Food is still great and service is fantastic. The service was excellent and still exudes fine dining in a causal setting. Love it! Let's Get Into It! Complimentary Bread - YUMMERS! I love a good roll, carb me UP! Turkey and Avocado Club - Delicious met expectations! Simple Salad with Chicken - Delicious met expectations. Wine selection is limited but I didn't complain with my white wine that I chose. Unfortunately I don't remember what brand it was but it was good. I know Bethesdas Market Cafe has a Happy Hour/Bar and cannot remember if Pentagon City location does! Overall I love this place and will always make this a place where the girls and I meet.

I visited the Nordstrom Cafe in Virginia and had a great experience. The food was really good and everything was delicious. The quality and flavor were on point, and the overall atmosphere was nice and relaxing. It was a great place to sit down and enjoy a meal. I would definitely come back and recommend it to others.

Salad w/no chicken

I have frequent the café for over the last eight years. Went in this past Thursday and placed an order for pasta and a salad. Requested no bacon in my pasta, but bacon was in the pasta. The Cobb salad comes with chicken, no chicken was on the salad when I made it home. Of course, I went to the cafe at the end of the day and they were closing. However, I noticed a change with the cashiers, often a manager, who has a difficult time making sure the order is correct if you're requesting any alterations to the menu (no bacon, no cheese, etc.). Total waste of my $50

White chocolate bread pudding

I stopped in the Nordstrom cafe for a dessert. They had a white chocolate bread pudding on display so I tried that. OMG! It was delicious! The pudding was a perfect consistency and the crust was even good. I really enjoyed it! The only thing that would've made it better is a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Even though we i only ordered dessert the waiters were as attentive as usual. I'm definitely going to stop by to get it again!

This is the Nordstrom Cafe and it is a hidden gem! Forget the food court! Definitely come here any time you are at the mall! Top notch service (server Driss) plus great food in a relaxing environment--the perfect antidote to any hectic trip to the mall! Food came out quickly as well. We had the Cilantro Lime Shrimp Salad, the Chicken Tomatillo Soup, and the Penne Bolognese with Meatballs. Thank you!

Tasty shrimp salad

It seems funny writing a review for Nordstrom Café (marketplace café), but it seemed even stranger that my friend chose this venue for lunch in DC with a plethora of other dining choices around. I deferred to her as over the last 20 years I've heard people talk about the food being good at Nordstrom. You order at a counter and then you find a place to sit....a nice booth in our case. My friend did note the dust on the ledges around the booth. However, the service was excellent, our glasses constantly refilled, and the food arrived quickly. Surprisingly, my shrimp arugula salad was extremely well prepared and delicious. Expertly grilled jumbo shrimp sat on top of a lightly dressed citrus vinaigrette over arugula. The polenta bites were not bad and an interesting twist on croutons. All the salads cost about $16 and while that seems a tad steep, based on the taste and portion I think it was priced fairly.

Yummy French Onion Soup not from a can
Pas D.

The executive chef and my server deserves 5 stars for their vision and customer service. The french onion soup was a pleasant surprise, as good as ones served at the average french bistro in Paris. Not as good as La Chaumiere only because it has less cheese and was slightly too salty but that's forgivable for department store dining. The Santa Fe panini is normally a favorite of mine but the execution is inconsistent. If only, they can get the proportion of ingredients right every time and make sure they don't leave out the hot sauce and that the panini should come out hot and crispy then it would be perfection. The Caesar salad really needs to be handled with more care. Doused in sauce makes it way too limp and salty. Cut cost and increase taste by cutting back the dressing and parmesan. (See pic). Despite these little issues with execution, kudos to the chef's menu and great service.

Red snapper salad (sustainably sourced)

I love this place for a quick sandwich or a big salad or entree. You pay up front, then staff bring you drinks, meal, and a little chocolate for dessert. It's good value for the money, and you can get your parking validated right at the cash register. (No waiting in line!) Last but not least, you can always sample the wine before you commit to an entire glass. This is my favorite restaurant/cafe in the mall.

Cajun chicken Alfredo

Fantastic! This cafe is a gem inside of the Nordstrom at pentagon city. It's located in the third floor near the kids department. I stop here every time I go to this mall. It's a required stop! The portions are great for the price, and the food is high quality. I have yet, to be disappointed. The salads, soups, sandwiches, pasta and desserts are delicious! There is no need to eat at the food court!

With an impressively high Yelp rating, I was disappointed to hear the new owners say the glowing reviews are from the previous owner (though I respect the honesty). Despite that, we really enjoyed our visit. The new owners live up to the legacy. First of all, the service is excellent. An older man makes the food and who I assume is his daughter takes the orders. Both are kind. At the end, she gave my daughter a granola bar for free. The menu is a mix of Korean food and the small market in the back sells Korean products and more. It's very fun to browse and pick up some snacks and treats. My daughter loved the juicy grape fruit snacks. To eat, we ordered the Japanese curry and milk tea. Both were full of flavor and made with love. "This is my new favorite meal of all time," said my daughter. She devoured the bowl herself! There's a small parking lot in front of the cafe. It's within walking distance from the Crystal City Metro.

Who knew that there would be a cafe in Pentagon City with this option? The interior is a bit cramped with many cardboard boxes piling up. We were able to order the food at the counter and waited about 5-10 minutes before the food was ready. BRAISED PORK OVER RICE (卤肉饭) - 15.49 Lots of rice, more rice than I could finish with the amount of braised pork belly they give. The pork was very fatty, which made it tasty and juicy, but it wasn't very saucy. There were two halves of a bokchoy and half of an incredibly boiled egg, which was meh. Still, I finished all the toppings and maybe a little less than half of the rice. I was full, but $15.49 for the food was not worth it. Overall, 3.5/5 but bump it to a 4/5 since there's a scarcity of food like this in the area. They sell other comfort Asian dishes too, like coconut chicken cutlet rice and Japanese eel rice.

I was there at 8am and only had about a 5 minute wait to be helped. I ordered an iced latte and a blueberry muffin. This cost about $15 which was pretty steep. The inside of this location was very clean with bright lighting. The barista was helpful and kind. There was only one person working (making coffee and handling payment). I would recommend atleast 2 people to be working since I saw the line get much longer after I was served. I made my way to the lobby where there is plenty of seating. My latte was good and gave me the pep I needed for the day. The blueberry muffin was very disappointing. It was really cold, almost as if it had just came out of a refrigerator. I wouldn't mind a room temperature muffin but I did not like it cold. Also, there was only about 5 blueberries throughout the whole muffin. I don't think this should constitute as a blueberry muffin. With the high price for it, I felt like it was not worth it.

The first time we got coffee and food and it was legit. Five star rating. That was back in early fall so I'd be remiss to try and remember everything. So I'm just going to review today's visit. We stopped in after a day in Alexandria, and the metro was down in crystal city so we had to walk, bus, metro, shuttle hop and repeat. So a busy day. We just wanted a good solid coffee. And a good solid coffee is what we got. The place was low key, despite it being happy hour time (4-8 every day), and Valentine's Day. Which totally fine by me, I don't love crowds encroaching in my personal space. We got a cute little table by the door and helped ourselves to the coffee station area that had some water while waiting to order at the kiosk (you can order at the counter or the kiosk). He got a cafe con leché (hot) (espresso steamed milk and sweet cuban crema) and I got a cortadito (espresso steamed evaporated milk and sweet Cuban crema). Both were phenomenal and hit the spot after a long day. Would highly recommend. I'm eyeballing getting a couple bags of their fresh roasted coffee beans to go home when I leave.

I've never had an authentic café con leche in Cuba or Puerto Rico, since I haven't visited these…read morecountries before. And the last time I had a café con leche was at a Dunkin' Donuts near Palm Beach around a decade ago. I'm not kidding. I was so amused that they offered these at a drive-thru window and my commercialized DD version wasn't bad. But, as I've traveled, my best option for a getting something close to a café con leche is just to request one, know that it won't be exact but/and keep your fingers crossed. Or - at least - order a café au lait. I'm no coffee snob so feel free to comment here. Wiki taught me that café con leches are made with scalded milk vs. steamed. And sugar cane is used in the grounds or the brew. This actual café con leche - at Crystal City's Colada Shop - is somehow the most authentic café con leche which I could reference drinking, in awhile now. I mean, I have had a few around Florida cafes, awhile back. At the Colada Shop register, you can order a regular café con leche or a 'sweeter' version. Hmmm ... how blessedly simple vs. and the mounds of adjectives I myself use when at a Starby's. I was assured that the sweeter version she offered was more gentle than it sounded, and she was correct. My steaming Cuban coffee was strong and not overpoweringly sweet. Like, I was relieved that I had ordered it sweet because otherwise I might have not been woman enough to drink it. The flavors of this beverage were complex. Rich and deeply smoky. This coffee was not like a Vietnamese coffee with a strong French roast and sweet cream. These flavors were more like - I don't have the culinary knowledge to say - like a deep, strong Cuban brew. I know that probably doesn't help. I enjoyed the beautiful, bright colors, the music and sips of my lovely and seriously respectable coffee, to go, here. The service was excellent. Each of the three team members I spoke with were all friendly and helpful. I liked my coffee and especially appreciated being able to find an establishment which markets and serves café con leches, Cuban-style. When I asked the Colada Shop employee what the most popular hot drinks were here, she said - obviously - its namesake Café con Leche, and secondly, the Carrot Cake con Leche coffee drink. Yes, please. She said the Dulce de Leche coffee is the third most popular drink here and her description of it as fabulous with the caramel and steamed milk. Well, there are at least two reasons to go back to the Colada Shop at Crystal City!
