I really enjoyed popping into this restaurant as I've been really curious of these and now I finally had the opportunity to try them out. I really thought they were mainly just coffee and pastries but I was wrong. I wish I would have took a picture of the menu because they had soups, sandwiches, pastries, coffee, other food items available. I was really surprised as I just had came from across the street since it was so cold I wanted something to warm me up. So I really didn't know what I wanted to try so I just decided on a latte and pistachio croissant which I have gotten 2-of those croissants because they were so good and delicious! The coffee was a little basic so nothing to run home to tell mama about but it was warmed me up. Very nice inside plenty of seeing for if you want to enjoy your food inside. The service could use some work as I told her I really didn't know what I should get. She could have at least gave me some suggestions but oh well. Will return if I'm in the area or if I run into another location.

La Madeleine is a beautiful French bakery with a charming and inviting atmosphere. The service was very good, friendly and attentive. However, the food itself was not amazing. The pastries were not heated up when served. Even after requesting them to be warmed, they still were not heated properly, which took away from the overall experience. On a positive note, the hot chocolate was good and comforting. Overall, it's a lovely place to sit and enjoy the ambiance, but I do wish there was more attention to detail when it comes to serving the food as expected.

Fantastic breakfast- freshly made to order and very tasty! Love how they stay true to French cafes. I had to wait a bit for my coffee but it was an inordinate amount of time it just had me thinking coffee was self serve so I wound up with two coffees which was a little funny

It was hot and humid and late and we wanted something quick. And we saw this place. The service was great. It was also relatively cheap compared to other offerings in the area. The food was just ok. The French onion soup resembled what we had in Paris but the sandwiches were just ok at best. There's a Tatte cafe a little further down the street which we had the day before and we thought was far superior in terms of food but then they probably cater to different people.

Nice, large space. We were greeted upon entering and placed an order for two lemonades. After waiting 15 min, no drinks! When we asked about the status the guy behind the counter had no idea the drink orders were put in and had to ask what the order was. The hibiscus strawberry lemonade had a good flavor. Downsize, it was mostly ice.

I've enjoyed every La Madeleine location I've visited, and I recently visited the one in Old Town Alexandria again and really enjoyed it! The Old Town location is warm, welcoming, and spacious! I visited on the morning of Alexandria's annual Scottish Christmas Parade, so it was really crowded as the restaurant is right outside the parade route. Seating was still available, as this place has ample seating. My favorite things to order at La Madeleine are their delicious and famous tomato soup (so good!) and their Linzer cookie. Our table ordered the following when I visited recently: -Avocado Toast -Tomato soup -French country breakfast (this is a hearty meal!) -coffee This is a fast casual place and you order at the counter and they bring your food out to you. Silverware is located in little cups at the front, and it's basically a no frills place. Prices are super reasonable, and the food has always been fresh and delicious whenever I've visited. I will certainly visit again in the future!

I love this La Madeleine! It's my favorite location. The staff is friendly and do their best. It is a busy place in Old Town! Especially during breakfast and lunch when I've been. I always get the chicken friand and the tomato soup. The epic tomato soup is warm, cheesy, thick, and delicious! The chicken friand is crispy and that mushroom sauce is to die for yummy! I love the French bakery feel and the cute French farm-style decor. There is a big parking lot nearby so that went well. Don't forget dessert, The chocolate eclair and Sacher Torte are amazing, a must try!

Food was great. Service was great. It is an adorable cafe in the heart of King Street. Highly recommend. The Nutella muffin was delicious as was the Quiche. The country breakfast was made fresh.

This is probably a 2.5 since I wouldn't come here unless someone made me. I've been to this la Madeleine a few times and always felt it wasn't good TBH but I decided to try them again. This time, I had: Pumpkin Streusel Muffin - Dry (how is this possible with pumpkin), and lacked flavor (again, how?) Potato Galette - Sounds good, right? It's shredded potatoes. No, you would be wrong. Again, where is the flavor? Berries & Cream Individual Cheesecake - Saved the visit, kinda. This was good but nothing special. At least it was flavorful cream cheese, tasty graham cracker crust, and fresh berries. As I said, I wouldn't go back unless someone REALLY wanted to. Even then, I'd probably try to persuade them to go to any other sort of fast casual place in the vicinity.

A cute little breakfast spot. Nice menu items where you can be as healthy or as indulgent as you like.

Used to love coming here with my fiancée, but the ambiance declined majorly since their new remodel. The warm, intimate, cozy vibe has been replaced and has cooled significantly. When we first walked in, my fiancée exclaimed, "I feel like I am in an IHOP!" The tone has become very generic, and the charm is gone - which is a shame, because everything has the feel of an Apple Store nowadays. I love the croque monsuier, but the number one reason for our coming here is gone. We are very disappointed by the change.

Great food and great service at a reasonable private. Maybe not a gourmet meal but it is great for what is essentially fast food.

Studying or need to get work done AND neurodivergent? This is the place!…read more There are a few St Elmo's in Alexandria/Arlington, but this location is by far my favorite. The service is always top notch, the food and drinks are consistently great, and the environment is so conducive to just about anything. I've met up with friends for coffee here, come just for a peaceful moment for myself, and it is my go-to for studying and working on the doctoral manuscript. There are outlets thoughtfully placed literally everywhere for charging computers, tablets, phones, etc. My favorite thing about St Elmo's is probably the amount and variety of seating they offer- they have bar seating with comfortable backed barstools, another long high top table (great for small group meetings or projects), traditional tables and chairs scattered throughout, booths, etc. The playlists they use are great, but music is also not too loud (can use my own headphones without having to blast the volume). There are fairy lights strung and the lighting is great. At the front, they have big windows that completely open to allow fresh air in on days the weather is nice. Parking isn't an issue- if you can't find anything on the street, there is a free garage with EV charging. I live less than a mile from the Del Ray St Elmo's (which is also great!), but the layout of this location and how it is set up for those looking to be productive outside of their home is fantastic.

I was so happy to see this expansion of my favorite Del Ray coffee shops! This spot is slightly…read moremore industrial feeling but the warmth comes from the friendly service, great coffee, and delicious pastries. I love their breakfast sandwiches and if they have their banana bread in stock...you truly are in luck! Support this locally-owned shop. You won't regret it.
