Rating only as a coffee shop, I was quite pleased with my cup of Joe, where it was full-bodied, smooth and with no harsh notes. Service was quick where I enjoyed my cup outside on one of their tables adjoining the business. Besides coffee, they would appear to serve the full assortment of drinks you would expect to see in a barista type operation as well as sandwiches where they serve breakfast and lunch during the course of the day. Nice! Overall, if you're looking for a quick cup of coffee that is not a chain coffee then this is an excellent option for you especially if you are in the area. The other key thing to note is this shop opens at 6 AM Monday through Friday so if you're an early riser like I am, keep that in mind. read more

AMBIANCE: I came here to meet up with a new friend for a quick morning bite. It was the perfect spot to do just that. you walk in and can feel the spot is a neighborhood gem. that being said, i felt like a slight outsider being new there--not a them thing, just a me thing :). SERVICE: The owners were running the cash register on a saturday morning. I love me some business owners! So it made me happy to support this business. they were quick, kind, and efficient. The drink was made QUICKLY! I was in and out in under 8 mins. So saturday morning around 10:30am/11am -- i got quick service. FOOD: The iced coffee was so yum. I got a small iced vanilla latte. It was honestly perfectly. I like my iced coffees sweet but not too sweet. I didn't have to add anything but i could still taste the coffee profile. it was a joy to drink. for a bite to eat, i had the corn muffin (pretending to make myself feel better about eating something "healthy"). It was AMAZING. Totaled around 11 bucks. Definitely crumbled easy while eating it, as I was breaking pieces off with my hands while I chatted. All in all, i'd come again for sure. read more

We stop here when we stay in town because it's always been good. Bought a muffin assortment today as you to take to a family breakfast. The pumpkin muffins were so dry they were inedible. We are staying across the street at the Hampton Inn. I needed a cappuccino. This is a very nice place. The coffee is good. The music is lovely and it is a fine place to sit. Nice tiled floors and there are big comfy armchairs. I didn't eat anything but I saw lots of people getting bagels and they seemed happy. Right next door is a shiny little shop that has no ambiance. Costco supplies and a cool looking menu. I saw all the milk pitchers for the espresso machine with milk in them which is a health code issue for temperature control. I wouldn't have thought much about it if they were busy but leaving on counters playing on phones caused me to view a bit more. The place needs a deep clean. Ordered a Hot Latte, Cafe Au Lait, Ham/egg/cheese sandwich on toast. Latte was fair, sandwich was as cheap as you can make it (one very thin piece of ham, very thin piece of cheese and one scrambled egg on a low quality sourdough bread). Couldn't get cheaper unless you omitted items on sandwich. The worst was the cafe au lait - it should be renamed Aqua au lait as there was NO coffee in it just hot water and milk - terrible, tossed it out. Decent egg and such sandwiches and pastries if you need something in a hurry. The inside decor is eclectic, as others have shared, but it is a cozy space. There are a few two-person tables and fewer four-person tables, so not a great place to assume you can get a group of people at the same table. Still, looked like those at the larger tables were camping out under work, so it might be a good place to stay for a while if you can nab the coveted horizontal space. The French roast wasn't the best coffee I've ever had, but it was hot, they didn't get weird about filling my travel mug, and it was good enough not to need milk and sugar. The bran muffin I ordered was slightly sweet like honey, and moist. Not a bad muffin! However and sadly, they didn't even give me a choice, but handed the muffin over on a styrofoam plate. Styrofoam! For those nearby, it's easy to access on your way to the metro or waterfront - although the food is far from gourmet, it's satisfying and quickly delivered. The coffee shop isn't worth going far out of your way when compared to the amazing dining close to the waterfront, but it's definitely worth stopping by to support a local business while you're passing by. We stopped by because of the quaint setting in the middle of town. It's very small but it's very comfortable and friendly. The gentleman cleaning the outside windows was entertaining the child at a window table and he was laughing so hard. Updating this review as I am so comfortable with the vibe of this place since the last review. Getting to know the guys at the register as they finally recognize me and sometimes I get a smile when I enter. It has that easy going neighborhood vibe that I didn't observe during my first visits. With that said...It's that *comfortability* factor that all above average neighborhood shops should have. I visited DC for the 4th of July and stayed in Alexandria. Every morning my husband and I would get up, leave our hotel, and head for the Uptowner Cafe. It's in a convenient location on Kings and a couple blocks away from the Kings Street Station. They offer delicious breakfast items. Our favorite was the carrot cake muffin...perfectly scrumptious. The main thing that we noticed was the efficiency and speed of the employees. We ordered and within 2-3 minutes our breakfast was ready! A nice little corner cafe located in Old Town Alexandria close to the King Street metro. This would be a good place to grab a quick bite to eat before walking down to the waterfront! We got the St Asaph hot sandwich, which was okay. Nothing fancy, nothing you can't make at home yourself. We also got a Lox Sandwich on an everything bagel. Would not recommend- the bagel was fine but the salmon barely had any flavor and they only put two very tiny slices of tomato. Tiny like 2 inch diameter tiny. For $7 I expected a bit better. What was good was the muffin! We got a yogurt cranberry orange muffin, which was delicious. It was very moist, not too sweet, and had great flavor. Yum.
