This place is AMAZING!!! The alligator sausage cooked outside is to die for. Wash it back with an ice cold Strawberry Abita. We were lucky enough to hang with the owner for a bit while he was cooking on the bbq! Super nice guy! Go Support his business! Wish I could have bought even more stuff to bring home and cook! All the meats look great! Will be back in the future to try that crawdad sausage! read more

Market Wego - Seafood Near Me - Westwego, Louisiana

I have been going to Marketwego for several years now and am a fan of their crawfish and green onion sausage, so it's been good to keep me coming back. Their customer service is really lacking though, and they need to get their stuff together. Numerous times I have been in and they get my order wrong or they have an opinion about what the 6th pound free should be. Today, they literally forgot to add on two items in my order (I ordered several items and two cooked food items). They punched my ordered food card and told me that it was OK to wait outside while it was cooked. When we came back inside sometime later, they said that it was not prepared and we didn't pay for it. I was so confused and then looked at our receipt and sure enough they hadn't rung it up...but why?? Why repeat my order, call it out to the person cooking, ring up everything else, punch the food card, tell me I can wait outside until it's done only to tell me later that it wasn't paid for??!! No remorse, no swift action to correct so I can pay and they expedite the order. Just a complete nonchalant attitude as if I was trying to swindle them or something. One of them just laughed. It was rude and unethical - they are unorganized and don't have a clue when it comes to customer service recovery. Just disappointing that a place that has some nice food products has very undesirable customer service. read more

I visited Market Wego after going on a Swamp tour. I bought boudin and took in back home to California. Wow! It is delicious! My only regret is not buying more. It's a perfect mixture of sausage and rice and the seasoning is full of flavor. I also bought pork rinds and enjoyed it hot right out of the bag. I'm so far away, so I will try to order some on line. read more

Before going on an Alligator tour right outside of New Orleans with my friends, we decided to stop here to grab some water and something to eat. This place is pretty low maintenance, but still good nonetheless, we stocked up on water, Gatorade, grabbed some Alligator bites, and boudain balls. (We all felt like Beyoncé eating Boudain in the Parking Lot. Lol) Tbh the Alligator bites and boudain balls were so good we had to double back and pick some up before heading back to our Airbnb in New Orleans. read more

Market Wego - Gator & Crawfish Meat Stick - Seafood Near Me - Westwego, Louisiana

My first taste of reptile! I've had bison and buffalo meat before but this was my first taste of alligator meat! I was hesitant but I needed to try it. Taste like chicken! no wait... taste like pork? quail? hmm... it had an interesting taste and texture and it's juicy and chewy but overall pretty good. Husband will not have any of it so he waited for me while I finished my alligator stick. LoL! Mmm... This market is located in one of the best seafood markets in the New Orleans area. They offer a wide variety of seafood and meat. It is not your regular Safeway market. LoL! They also sold stuffed artichokes, fried okra, alligator sausage, andouille sausage, boudin, alligator and crawfish sticks, oyster plates, fried fish, turkey necks, as well as po' boys and homemade cracklins and several grocery items. If you want to sample the local Cajun cuisine, come here. It is a market and they have very small seating area inside and two picnic tables outside. Plenty of parking in an old, gravel parking lot shared with the Westwego Shrimp lot. Seems to be a popular place among locals and tourists! We came here after our swamp adventure tour. Great market with all the po boy options. Can buy and grill at home also. Delicious gator bites and other cooked meats. I came here after a swamp fan boat and had a great lunch. Would recommend stopping in for a bit or pickup some meat to grill at home! read more

Stopped here while camping next door at the state park. The andouille and gator sausage is excellent! We took it home and made jambalaya for a family gathering and everyone asked where they could buy the andouille. Some of their items are available for purchase on line which means I don't have to sit for another trip to NOLA to restock! read more

This is a cool little store/bodega/hot food place with no frills (really...no frills). It's kind of divey, but not in a dirty way. It's in a little area of stores and shacks where you can buy fresh seafood right off the boats from that day. Anyway, I ordered a fish po boy and fries, but I also picked up some spicy boudin, andouille sausage, and some cracklins. They also have frozen stuffed chicken, frozen rabbit, tamales, and other stuff. The po boy was good, and fries were browned just as I asked for. There is plenty of parking, it's pretty small in the store, just 2 or 3 small tables. A good place to get a bite for lunch or pick up some stuff. read more

Cute spot would definitely come back. Old school fish market with true Lousiana vibes

This is the only place here to get food to eat. I want to give a 3.5 stars bc their service was really good for a mom and pop shop. You get entrapped with the smell of freshly smoked andouille homemade sausage! It's being smoked right outside. Definitely deserves a 5 star for flavor! If you want to eat in store, it will be on a stick and tossed into the deep fryer. We ordered two types of fried plate dishes since they did not have a combo that included fish, shrimp and oysters. At $16, we expected more than 8 pieces of oysters that were breaded with fish breading and fried. It came with fries but you can tell it was old fries. Not sure why tho since it was right about lunch time. Our fish and shrimp plate was even sadder. Our shrimps were like micro shrimps. It was definitely the $2/lb shrimp that you get from the market right outside the store. Super super tiny you almost thought it was crunchies (like from long johns). The fish was good. It wasn't over cooked, nice crunch texture. We got 4 pieces of fish and just a small handful of the tiny shrimps. Again...fries...undercooked and old. I did order the crawfish sausage with green onions! That was delish. Not overly salty...right texture and of course it was on a stick and deep fried. My mom really liked it and bought the smoked cold version to go. The cracklings were super super hard. It was almost inedible bc of the texture and of the enormous amounts salt seasoning. I'm sure it was the bottom of the barrel. It was disappointing! Overall, yes to the sausage, and yes to the fried fish. Ask for extra crispy fries next time. But that's it! read more

Good meat & great customer service. Def will be back when I visit NOLA. Alligator meat/sausage was really good

Unfortunately Market Wego was disappointing. My co-workers decided we wanted fresh Louisiana seafood, and what better place than a seafood market with all types of fresh caught fish and shrimp... well it FAILED! Staff was friendly but the platter was such a let down. Tiny shrimp that should be used in a salad or dressing, NOT FRIED! Fries were bland should have been sprinkled with salt. And the French bread wasn't disappointing because it was never included in the plate. Too bad the location is great and it has so much potential! SMH read more

Market Wego - Happy camper!!! - Seafood Near Me - Westwego, Louisiana

Right after getting off of the Ultimate Swamp Adventure, we wanted to check out the market directly before it. Most of the market is open front shops, selling shrimp, live crabs, and fish. Regardless how large and gorgeous the seafood is. The sun was hovering while beating our spirits down like a dance mom. I looked to the left and found refuge in the Market Wego. The opening of doors being forth refreshing crisp coil air conditioning. Ahhh! Now that my brain could function. The market of about 35x16 feet, held an inventory that accentuated the tour we just came off of. Alligator meat, gator sausages, hot crackling, cold beer(burp!), seasoning, and other goods that would satisfy and tourist. The ladies are so hospitable and swift working. Stop thru if you're passing through. read more

Market Wego appears to be the only shop in this little marketplace which sells cooked food. Great place to stop after a swamp tour for a gator or crawfish sausage. They also sell Cajun seasoning and boxed foods to bring home to make your own Cajun food. Must visit here! read more

Great food for the price. Its a small menu, but it is done right. The rest of the market has some great items too.

Fantastic house-made andouille, smoked sausage & boudin. One of our favorites is the green onion sausage. Fabulous gumbo, and stuffed chickens to take home and cook! read more

Ok, I know..... this is not a "restaurant", don't kill me yet. Please read on. I really love this place!!! I buy all of my andouille sausage here. The andouille sausage is 100% NOLA flavored. There are certain things that are critical flavors required to properly represent a culture of food. After eating their andouille sausage in my gumbo. I now will drive 7 hours each way to get it. I did this weekend. (I drove from Warner Robins, Ga to here and I will drive back on Sunday. $150.00 in food from this place. $90.00 just andouille sausage. The sausage is slowly smoked with pecan wood. The smoker is perfectly seasoned, if you come here on Saturday you can see and smell the pecan smoke. When they open the smoker you can see the pecan wood smoke flavors almost dripping from the smoker lid. The andouille sausage has a slight bite of heat, but it is not a overwhelming spicy heat. It is a kiss of spice that will add a slight flavorful kick to your gumbo. With anything else, gumbo is always a reason to fight the next day. If it were me, I would definitely stand guard over the fridge if it had your gumbo with their andouille sausage. The second day the smoky pecan flavor and the kiss of spiciness comes out to project the flavor to a level above heaven. So you are thinking, is he crazy. Could it really be that good. I drove 7 hours. I know the pretty lady that smokes the sausage (she apologized that the sausage was still hot and needed to cool open in my 30 days from purchase new 2018 car while I drove back and I know the owner of the business. If you are unsure, they are very nice and will slice a piece off for you to try. They make numerous other things including another local favorite... boneless stuffed chicken YES!!!! BONELESS. Other sausages, poboys, fried fish plates, this is a mom and pops place that does a great job. Today the sausage has to cool off in my hotel room. So you my possibly want to get a little sausage, just saying. When I eat their sausage, I think of the great food and flavors of such a great city... NOLA. read more
