The view of the water is amazing! But the service was terrible and everything is way overpriced. First the waitress asked up several time if we wanted anything else to drink after we said we just wanted to have water. Then my husband ordered the Mahi salad (the fish was cold and tasted as though it had been siting out for quite some time.) I ordered a shrimp cocktail and a house salad. We waited for our 2 salads for 30 minutes, at that time I asked the person who served it where the shrimp cocktail was. He wasn't a waiter, he was the food runner so he didn't know. When the waitress finally came back I asked her where it was. She said, "oh, you haven't gotten it?" I said no, so she said she'd check on it. She comes back 10 minutes later with a small plate of 4 shrimp.... the people sitting at the table next to us had an even worse experience with her, they were going to leave so they could actually eat. They got there at the same time and didn't get a salad and sandwich until we were leaving.... then our check came. $16 for those 4 shrimps that I waited 45 minutes for... (mind you our 4 month old son was with us.) we got there at 12... didn't get to leave until 1:45. She only had 2 tables... us and the one next to us. By no means were they packed or busy. To sum all this up, our ticket for 2 salads and 4 shrimp was $46. And terrible service.... I'd recommend going somewhere else unless your just there to sip a couple drinks and enjoy the view. read more

Traveling down to the keys for the first time we were looking for a place to grab a bite to eat. Despite the lower reviews we pulled in anyway. Located along the water, outdoor seating as well as a bar with TVs. We ordered the blood orange margarita and the watermelon mojito...both awesome. The bartenders personality was a bit slow to start but the more we engaged with him the friendlier he got and ended up being really nice. We ordered two appetizers. The cracked conch...wow this was really good. Not a big fried food person but never had conch and wanted to try it. It was so good! Pleasant surprise! Next we ordered the crab cake. Hands down the best crab cake we've ever had and we're from New England! Portion was large and there was so much crab! Those two apps and the drinks filled us up so we never ordered entrees but we did get the key lime pie. OMG! It's a must. All in all the food, service and atmosphere was exactly what we were looking for. read more

This place has really taken a fall. We come down from Fort Lauderdale and have enjoyed this spot at times in the past. Now it's just a money grab. If you've been here before and remember this place as elegant and tasteful with excellent food and atmosphere, let it remain a fond memory and don't go back. If you've never been here skip it and go to the fish company down the road. You get the same touristy BS for a bit less money, and the food quality is about the same. Let's start at the beginning when you walk in: In years past I remember walking into a torch lit, quiet restaurant and being greeted by a tastefully dressed hostess. The other night I walked in at 7:30 and was met with a woman dressed in (and I kid you not) a raggedy neon pink tank top) who looked like she just wandered off some random beach after happy hour. Atmosphere: On the way to our table I was disappointed to see that they replaced the cool sand floor with giant paver stones. It also appears that they have crammed many more tables which were all inhabited by underdressed patrons stuffing their gobs as fast as possible giving you that unsettling turn 'em as quick as possible feeling which is always lovely to experience at a restaurant. Unattended kids were running around everywhere. Food: We ordered drinks and the Ahi appetizer which, thank God is still excellent. I took the server's recommendation and ordered the scallops pan seared. They were sweet and tasty though slightly undercooked but no complaints there, just not wowed. My husband ordered the onion crusted mahi mahi. We've ordered the mahi-mahi several times here in years past and it was always excellent and had ample sauce. This time however I think the chef forgot to put any sauce on it and it was dry and tasteless. Side dishes are ordered a la carte. I had sautéed mushrooms which were not bad but again not great. My husband had the garlic mashers (remember those Instant potatoes at the store that came in a box?) which look like they had been hastily squished through a pastry bag. Again these missed the mark in a huge way. Tasteless food that looked half assed and hurried. No garnish, no presentation, just slapped on the plate. . Our service was timely and our server was excellent. IN FACT THE ONLY THING WORTH 5 STARS HERE WAS OUR SERVER. SHE WAS AMAZING. And speaking of stars whoever they had warbling away at the microphone was just awful. Music: Again the entertainment used to be a nice, compliment to the meal, someone gently playing/singing in the BACKGROUND. This night's singer was no doubt the winner of a cruise ship karaoke contest for a Don Ho impressionist. Too loud and just cheesy. (maybe he wandered in with the hostess?) Was this some sort of management strategy to get people to eat faster and get the heck out? At least just turn his microphone down please. We finally had enough and wanted to just have a quiet drink on the dock to cap off the evening. After spending over $175 for the two of us we shouldn't have been surprised when, after politely waiting a long while to order a drink at the bar, my husband was snapped at by the bartender stating that she was too busy and he would just have to wait. We eat out all the time, and we're by no means high maintenance folks. I rarely write reviews because I'm just not that nitpicky. However I was stunned at the discrepancy between price and (lack of) quality. Somehow I doubt that this was just an off night. The whole vibe is wrong. Please Marker 88, go back to your roots. At least the view was great. A cold breezy night in the Florida keys. No heaters or roll downs in the tiki. Food was just eh and brought out cold. Lobster bisque was like warm. We've been coming to Marker 88 for years, and in the past had given this staple of the Keys 5 stars, but of late, the service has been terrible. Tonight we arrived to a not very busy dinner seating. The hostess sat us down in a section with no other diners and no tables were set with any silverware or plates (other sections were). After 10 minutes my wife had to go back to the hostess stand and get the gluten free menu herself. After another 15 minutes of no one coming to take our order, set the table, pour water or any other form of service or recognition we had come for dinner we got up and left. Sadly, we think we are done coming here for dinner, it's really a lunch spot at best. (Incidentally we found a Mediterranean restaurant back towards lower Islamorada, 'Meze' and the Sunday night dinner service was fantastic, take note.) read more

This place was a complete let down. The way I was treated trying to get a table was outrageous! We waited for about 10 minutes before the hostess came and demanded we put a mask on. If you are not familiar with this place it is an all outdoor restaurant, with plenty of space to keep socially distanced as people like to say. They do not have a separate gluten free fryer for fries, chips, etc. I called ahead to double check about the menu and the girl on the phone was clueless. She checked with the kitchen and came back saying there was a separate fryer. We decided to go anyway based on reviews and the fact that they did have a separate gf menu. I asked the waitress re the fryer and was told it was shared. Glad I asked again. The food that my husband ( seafood) and son (grilled chicken) got was good and safely prepared. They do have gluten free cheddar biscuits. We get to desert and everyone wants ice cream but it is not gluten free?! HUGE THANKS to the waitress for checking on that. My Wife and dog evacuated to the Keys for Hurricane Florence. Marker 88 was 2 miles from where we stayed and it was amazing. The food, drinks and staff were great. They also have a beach next door that was great to hang out at during the day with our dog. read more

Overall a terrific dining experience. The outside ambiance at sunset was awesome . The special drinks were like a pina colada called 88 relaxer delicious. The service and food was very good. We sat down at a table to get a drink in order to sit out the traffic. The server sent us back to the hostess stand who proceeded to tell us that we were not welcome to sit at the tables for drinks. They suggested that we sit at the bat. , but we had children with us. They eventallly seated us at table but after 10 minutes no one approached our table. This is NOT the Keys vibe I had hoped for. Great restaurant on a beach. we stopped here for our 1st dinner in the keys and were very pleased with the ambience, service and quality of food. We ordered 2 Hogfishes and a Yellowtail Snapper Meuniere and everybody was raving about how good it was. The location is worth the price for the okay food here. We ate at a gliding table and benches along the water at sunset, which was really breathtakingly beautiful. The conch fritters were good but not as good as at Evelyn's. My two sons' burgers were not cooked to their requests and my other sons chicken and avocado sandwich was not very good he said. He didn't finish it. My husband and I each had mahi Caesar salads. The fish was grilled nicely but there wasn't anything particularly interesting about the homemade dressing.
