I've been to Marker 88 several years ago. I was so looking forward to eating here tonight. I may cry. Let's start with the good. The server was polite and capable. That's it. As to the bad, the short version is that the food is wildly overpriced and pedestrian at best. I had the lobster bisque. Clearly they used cornstarch to thicken it, as every bite had either a lump of cornstarch, or for a change, a bit of shell. . My friend had what was essentially a 4 veggie plate. For $24, she got some cilantro rice (actually quite tasty), green beans grilled into desiccated submission, a zucchini medley consisting of zucchini, zucchini, and zucchini. And stale homemade potato chips. Another friend had the calamari. In an inseparable ball of fried mediocrity. In sum, I cannot recommend this restaurant. read more

The atmosphere is amazing, and the food was delicious. However, I am writing this review to share how amazing all of the staff at Marker 88 are. During a lunch visit my father fell ill unexpectedly and we had to call rescue. While medics arrive the staff went above and beyond to help. They brought him a drink, a wet towel, and cleared the restaurant entrance for rescue to be able to pull up quickly. While he was being treated by medics the staff kept assuring that we were ok and provided support until we were cleared. I want to give a heartfelt thanks to the staff at Marker 88, your compassion did not go unnoticed. read more

During an 8 night stay in nearby Tavernier, my wife and I enjoyed 4 dinners at Marker 88. We quickly found that it was a place where we couldn't go wrong. The service was generally excellent, polite and attentive. (although one server always seemed a bit rushed and not as friendly as the others) They have a decent beer selection and some interesting and nicely made cocktails. The food was great. We always ordered fish and always got very fresh and tasty dishes. The prices can be a little shocking ($40 for the nut encrusted snapper entrée special one night) but I'm willing to pay for the quality they're serving. This is a beautiful location to watch the sunset from and the live music was very good. Overall, we considered Marker 88 to be a very good find thanks to the many positive reviews here on Yelp! read more

Stopped on my way to Key West and liked it so much, popped in on the return trip. Located at Mile Marker 88 (Gee whiz) its a nice stopping off point on the drive to the Keys from Miami. Located right on the water with an awesome tiki bar, the views are excellent. The staff were all friendly and on point service wise. They also had the best crabcake I have ever experienced...i've had 'em all over and this was heads and shoulders above them all. 5 stars from a person who doesn't dole out high praise (or 5 star reviews) very often. Had a great lunch here, and the excellent view added to the fun. I had the macadamia crusted hogfish sandwich which tasted fresh and delicious. The hogfish had a very clean taste. I went with the five cheese macaroni for a side and was glad I did. Great creaminess and I enjoyed Marker 88's decision to go with a non-traditional pasta for a mac and cheese. I also had a bite of my companion's coconut shrimp. Delicious. And a huge portion for an appetizer. The mango chutney it was served on was top notch. Both of these items were specials. read more

Marker 88 was fun! We sat in the swings and enjoyed the beautiful views. The coconut shrimp were huge and delicious. They made a great Miami Vice. The prices were a little steep but worth it because of the food and atmosphere. I would definitely recommend checking it out. read more

We called ahead since it was 915P and they stop serving at 10... they welcomed us to come on down. For apps, we had the hot blue crab dip and the cracked conch with wasabi aioli. Both were pretty amazing. We split a lobster tail entree, which was a little tough for my tastes. I didn't have anything other than iced tea, but the cocktail menu looked interesting. Our server (guy with dark red hair... ugh can't remember his naaaaame) was excellent--attentive, and willing to answer some questions we had about living in the area. First let's start with the only good point: the scenery! The restaurant is located close to the water. Overall it has been a disappointing experience: - food was ok but overpriced - service was terrible. The hostess (and manager) was completely lost as a few customers were trying to get a table at the same time. I was standing in front of her and had to wait 25 minutes before I could speak to her as she was not capable to tell the other customers to wait in line! When she eventually spoke to me, she told me we had to wait 1h45 for a table. Customer satisfaction doesn't seem to be a big priority to this restaurant. I would recommend to watch the sunset at the bar but not to eat there as they don't really understand to treat customers. read more

During our recent visit to Islamorada, my wife and I made the mistake of canceling our reservations at another restaurant and making a new one at Marker 88 because it looked so appealing, especially it's location right on the beach. The positives of our decision? The view from the restaurant is very nice, with some tables right on the beach. That's about it. The negatives? Well to start with we were greeted by and shown to our table by a hostess with all the enthusiasm and charm of a prison matron escorting prisoners to their cell. Tossing our napkin wrapped cutlery on the table to indicate where we would be seated was a nice touch. The food? The lobster bisque I ordered was served at room temperature (yuck) and was completely missing one important element....any sign of an actual piece of lobster. My entree of onion encrusted Mahi- Mahi was, in presentation and flavor, the equivalent of the fish sticks served at your high school cafeteria. My wife described her entree of shrimp with zoodles as "fine", hardly a ringing endorsement. Perhaps she would have enjoyed it more if it had more than just four pieces of shrimp. Based on my experience and other reviews of this restaurant I have read it seems the owners have embarked on a course of minimal service from overworked, cranky staff combined with small food portions and high prices in order to recover, as quickly as possible, the restaurant's Covid 19 losses. If you want to just hang at the bar and enjoy the view, I guess this place is worth the visit. For a meal, which will be overpriced, myrecommendation is, give it a hard pass. read more

We stopped here for our lunch after a recommendation from some friends. We pulled our boat right up to their dock and they had a few slips. The have some really great covered outdoor seating, but we were hot and really wanted to sit in some AC. We were seated immediately. Service was great. Our server suggested their special of the day which was a coconut crusted hogfish sandwich with a side. I got the special with a side of mac and cheese was not disappointed in anyway! The sandwich had a huge filet of hogfish that barely even fit in the big bun. Now I'd like to think of myself as a mac and cheese connoisseur, and this mac and cheese was some of the best I've ever had! The pasta they use are these massive spiral type noodles. It was perfectly buttery and cheesy and everything I wanted. I stuffed myself with my whole meal and then grabbed my husband's mac and cheese and finished his without even asking him. Here is another place I like to take out of town guests for a nice sunset dinner in the Keys. On this visit, we arrived 20 minutes before sundown on a Friday and after much hunting found the next to last parking space! Once inside we checked in at the hostess stand and were advised of a 20 minute wait. They take your phone number for notification. I grabbed 4 Rumrunners at the bar and headed for the adjacent pier jutting out into Florida Bay. There, we were treated to a bee-U-tiful winter sunset. Below our feet, barracuda and a large nurse shark patrolled the flats at low tide. A very good singer/guitarist who seemed to pull every acoustic number out of the Led Zeppelin songbook, was very entertaining. Our guest was beside herself. Onto the meal, we were seated right after 20 mins. Our table still afforded a beautiful view as the sun sank and hues of pink and purple appeared in the sky. Our server was an attractive young lady who was kind of timid and appeared to be overwhelmed in general with order taking. I realized this when at the next table a male server expertly read off the day's specials from memory. Among the specials was hog fish, which I love but did not see on the regular menu. I was incensed that I was not given the option of ordering it, but I didn't want the drama in front of my daughter and her guest. Apps that we had included conch fritters (very well prepared with a great curry based dipping sauce), tasty warm blue crab dip with fresh chips, and an "ok" coconut shrimp. Entrees were sesame seared ahi salad(excellent), dinner portion Caesar salad with added mahi (a generous portion), Key Lime seafood penne (lobster, shrimp, and crab in a delicious and interesting Key Lime/Tabasco butter sauce) and my entree, the shrimp sautéed with haiku tomatoes & capers. The medium shrimp were very good but there's only 4...1 or 2 more would've been nice. The penne was a tad too Al dente' for me. The tomatoes were awesome, they tasted farm to table fresh. Olive oil, garlic, and capers saved the dish from mediocrity as well. Dessert was a pretty good Key Lime pie, with a nice toasted, ruffled meringue topping. More entertainment ensued when an aggressive land crab appeared and tried to snip the nose off an investigating Maltese at the next table. An intrepid waiter dispatched the crustacean with a broom and dust pan into the mangroves LOL. Overall, I liked the food and the sunset and nautical vibe. Rating comes down for inadequate parking and the server dropping the ball on the daily specials. For 4 drinks, 3 apps, 4 entrees, 2 desserts the bill with gratuity was $245...too much for the MEH service received. There are other, less expensive places nearby that also have bayside dining for the sunset. I hope Marker 88 realizes this! read more
