Man, this place certainly isn't haute cuisine but... it's just about everything I want out of dinner in the Keys. Yummy sugary cocktails? Check. Decent food? Check. Incredible views? CHECK! Stumbled on to this place while out exploring. We were hungry so we decided to try it out. Sat us by the water it was a beautiful day. Not too many people there yet so it was quiet. Had a live artist singing. He was pretty good. I ordered chicken rice bowl. Husband ordered mahi tacos and a pineapple margarita. Drink came out pretty quick. Food followed not long after. We were seated in the Tiki Hut area and while it was all very beautiful with a beautiful view, we were sounded by empty tables that had not been cleared and a few staff members walking through but no one picked up any dirty dishes. The tables were not cleared in the 1 hour that we sat there eating our dinner. Also, It took over 15 minutes after we were initially seated for anyone to notice us sitting there and then brought us waters and asked if we wanted anything else to drink. Not sure if maybe someone called out sick, but we were surprised at the tables being so dirty. The food was very good, and once we met our server, they were was very kind. We will go back! read more

We had dinner here on the Fourth of July and were excited for a nice meal, but we could barely eat because the fly situation was completely out of control. The restaurant gave us two small fans to try to keep them away, but they were totally ineffective. We were surrounded by swarms of large flies the entire time--on the table, on the food, on us. Even our young child became so frustrated she started to cry because she couldn't enjoy her meal with flies constantly landing on her and her plate. What's worse is that I checked other reviews and saw that this has been an ongoing issue for quite some time. It's incredibly disappointing that nothing is being done to address it. It honestly makes you question the cleanliness of the restaurant. While we did notice more flies than usual at restaurants around Islamorada (which we hadn't experienced in past visits), this was by far the worst. Just to be clear--I'm not talking about mosquitoes. I'm referring to flies. This isn't just an inconvenience--it's a potential health hazard. Flies can carry disease by landing on garbage and feces and then on people's food. This needs to be taken seriously, especially by a restaurant serving the public. Until it's resolved, I can't recommend this place to anyone. read more

It was all perfect The food was delicious and beautifully presented. The oysters were rather small, but delicious. My partner had his Maui fish prepared, encrusted. Wow, it was so excellent. I'm told this place is not what it used to be. The experience left a lot to be desired. First, we arrived, and had reservations. In the lobby was 3 couples. There was a very pushy woman who did not have reservations, and asked to be seated in the beach, effectively taking our spot. Instead of the host asking he groups who did and did not have reservations, he simply addressed the people in random order. We were then seated at the far end of function tiki pavilion. It appeared they had a function earlier. We walked past tables with unbussed plates of food. Our host has to slide tables around and separate one so our party of four could sit . We sat an a undressed table, waiting for our server. As she brought over our water, she hit a chair at a table with another couple and spilled all the water over one of the empty chairs. She then gave us 4 menus that were dirty with some colored sticky substance on them. When she arrived, we had to prompt her to take our drink order. She did, and then left. Another server came by with our waters and we asked if we could have table settings. He said they were running out, while at a unused table of 8 next to us, lied 8 fresh settings. He came back with settings, menus that were a bit cleaner, and utensils. One set was not washed well and still had food on the fork. Drinks arrived. Shortly after, music started blaring!! It was like the speaker was set to 11. And this wasn't hosue soothing music. It was 80's pop rock. The only thing I can think of it was the music track for the wedding that happened prior. Our server returned and attempted to take our order over the bring music. None of imus could hear each other. We stopped her and asked her to turn the music down. She left back to the main restaurant. A few minutes went by and the music was still blaring. I left the table and went to the host station, where the server was chumming around with what I perceived was the manager. She said "oh, I'm sorry". I explained the music was far too loud, and the manager said he would correct it. As I returned to my seat, the music did stop in our section. A couple next to us heard over the loudspeaker that their car was going to be towed. No prior request to move the car. The gentleman left his seat and proceeded to relocate his car, I presume. About 10 minutes later, with no server waiting on them, they got up and began to leave. I believe they were approached to pay for their meal. The dirty plates sat with food remaining on the table. Our meals arrived and we ate, all the whole the table next to us had not been bussed. My wife went to the ladies room and came back to say that it had not been cleaned. A few moments later, the assistant manager came over and looked at the table next to us, and then walked back. My brother also went to the restroom, and return later to say that multiple tables on the beach had not been bussed. A few minutes later, my wife made her way to the host station to inform the manager of our experiences. He came back to the table, and claimed he didn't know customers were seated in this section, which was a falsehood, because I spoke to him about the music being too loud. They did take about 20% off of the bill for our troubles. We paid our bill and left. No, the table next to us was never bussed.. We have no intention of returning. There are a few words of advice for this establishment. If you are going to hire unseasoned servers, please provide better oversight and expectations. If you see a plate that is finished, pick it up, even if it's not your table, or there is a dedicated buss person. Never walk away empty handed. As a manager, walk around... Often.. give new employees clear guidance. read more

We were positively surprised and had a great experience. We sat at the bar and the bartenders were SUPER busy but we tried to be kind and friendly and they returned with nothing but friendliness and kindness back The drinks were great and so was the key lime pie which they said is made is house!!! We had a great time and would suggest people to give it a try. Maybe they learned and changed after all those bad reviews. That is what life is about. Maker 88 is a true Islamorada staple! This was my first time back since there huge renovation and i was very impressed with the changes! Ambiance wise this is a beautiful water front restaurant with both patio and beach seating! If you are looking for a spot to grab a drink and Watch the sunset look no further because sunset views here are outstanding! The renovated patio area is absolutely beautiful. There's tons of tables all very well spaced, and the overall vibe is relaxed and a little bit more upscale. Service wise our waitress was wonderful. She was very sweet very attentive and we had a reservation so we got seated right away on a beautiful beachfront table. Food wise, the rock tempura was outstanding definitely a must get appetizer. we had pasta with shrimp and it packed so much flavor and was such a great portion. We even split it between two people and were perfectly content with the amount of food we got. They have a wonderful cocktail menu and to be honest I've never had a cocktail here. This place is a little bit on the pricey side, but you are paying for wonderful quality food, wonderful service and an absolutely beautiful dining view. We are in Islamorada in June. It is definitely the off season, which I appreciate. I'm going to go on vacation and enjoy the heat no matter where I am, so might as well go to Islamorada during the off season. We had reservations at this restaurant at 7pm, knowing that sunset was a little after 8, and we got there 15 min early and was seated. For a restaurant on the beach, it was completely outside with tables on a deck and directly on the beach, I was surprised they didn't have any fans around. I've been to outside restaurants before and almost all have had fans. This place had these tiny table fans to "keep the flies away" which honestly didn't work anyway, cause once our dinner was brought, all we did was shoo flies away. The food - very good. We had the snapper ceviche and chopped salads as appetizer and we finished them all. Then we had the daily catch - hogfish - prepared lightly fried and it was delicious. Another entree was the lobster linguini- very good, though a bit heavy for a beach dish (not taking off points for this, we need some belly filling meals!) 4.5 stars for the food. I had a pineapple coconut margarita. It was good. I drank it. I enjoyed it. My friend had the kiwi gin smash. She said although it had a decent flavor, it had so many seeds and mint in it that you couldn't drink it (straw or sip& without a mouth full of it. They need to strain it. I hope they normally strain the drink and we were there on an off night ‍. My other friend (the DD) had a virgin strawberry daiquiri. It was a very icy drink, vice being smooth- perhaps cause it took a long time to get to our table. Drinks were 2.5 out of 5. The service was ehhh. Like I said, it was the off season, so I'm not sure how experienced our waiter was. The food runner was lovely but totally admitted it was her first day, but other than confusing a table number once, she was great. It took a long time for our drinks, despite not being many people there. Our waiter did not check in at all between getting our appetizers and clearing our dinner plates. I would have ordered another drink (or 2) and my friend would have ordered a different one had we been checked in on by our waiter. The waiter was super nice, the food runner was super nice and the people filling our water glasses and clearing tables were super nice. So- all in all- the staff was super nice! But it would have been nice to be checked in on! It took even longer to get our check. I would give the service a 2.5 out of 5. The "fly fans" were a hot commodity. As soon as they took away our food, someone asked for the fan. For a place on the water that should be used to this, I would expect to either have fans in the corners blowing around or at leafy have a fan for each table. There was umbrella shade at the different tables to enjoy- you could move your chair to be out of the sun if needed or have your back to it, but I seriously don't understand the lack of fans. Lastly, the sunset was beautiful. We asked for the check 15 min before the sunset and it took that long to get the check! I was able to sneak away for some pics befor me the sun went down. My friend joined me after she paid check, after the sun went down. Overall I am giving it a 3 out 5. The food was delicious and the sunset view was amazing. But then you had the flies, no fans, and slow service and okay drinks to consider. read more

He over hears our conversation and comes to our table and says "excuse me but this is just a restaurant we don't promote swimming". He was completely condescending to my whole family. We are from the keys I grew on this same street 3 doors down. Our family has been in the keys for 4 generations. Never have I ever been more offended. #1 we said nothing about swimming #2 how dare he come up to my family and speak to us like that #3 I have seen children be in the water,it was no issue. I have sat at the rocking table on the beach walked the shoreline, we are in the keys you have a roped off area where boats are not allowed to come in. There are zero signs that say no swimming. For this man to come and scold everyone for even looking at the beach or talking about it is absolutely infuriating. If this man is so miserable and wants no one on the beach he should not be working hospitality in the Florida keys. I am so disappointed and saddened to end our holiday weekend like this. read more

Was driving back from Key West and stopped off at Market 88. It was probably the best meal and experience that we had all trip. The restaurant overlooks the water with stunning views of the sunset. The menu was great but we had 4 appetizers and surprisingly we recommend them all. Must try the crab cakes, the Cuban Quesadillas were amazing! The guacamole and Chip was outstanding as were the Rock Shrimp Tempora. Topping it off was the best server ever, Gabby!
