I really like a good Italian Sub and since I'd never tried Mario's version, I popped in and ordered a small one. The sub was quickly ready. This was an excellent sub - a nicely fresh roll, well filled with plenty of meat and cheese , topped with fresh tasting lettuce & tomato, and well finished with oil and vinegar. I will definitely try this sandwich again!

Famous Garlic Knots 12 Pieces

One of the nicer locations that they have located in the same shopping center as LA fitness you can go work out and then become a fatty again lol sounds like my kind of place food was had the Wings 6 Pieces sweet chili they were fried to perfection. The garlic knots, tasted a little too old for me, and the french fries were soggy in the flavor but the service was great and has a very chill atmosphere

Small Sub with Side, and Drink Special Kids Meatball Sub

I love the convenience of their latest location. The food was delicious. I got the lunch special of a small sub, drink, and side. I had the Italian with a salad. Both were great. Their ranch dressing is so good as well as the Mario's way topped sub. My son had the kid's meatball sandwich with fires. He loves their meatballs. The fries are also delicious as well. Check their social media for deals. We got a free kid's meal because my son was dressed up for Halloween.

Cheese Pizza

Their newest location is now open on Stratford Rd., actually it's technically Harvey St., which is the road that runs through the shopping center with L.A. Fitness and P.F. Chang's. Mario's is located in the former Firestorm Pizza location. The Chic-O-Philly is fantastic as always, which a warm and crusty sub roll filled with thinly shaved chicken and melted cheese... and made "Mario's Way" with lettuce, tomatoes, banana peppers, Mayo, vinegar and oil. Honestly one of the best sandwiches in Winston-Salem. The cheese pizza was a little limp and chewy tonight, I'll need to order it well done to get the crispy crust they used to serve. But it was still pretty good, with more cheese than normally served. Small pizzas start around the $10 mark for a 10 inch pie and they have a whopping 24 inch that maxes out around $42 for the specialty pies. They do serve pizza by the slice as well, $3.25 for cheese, and it's a big slice. We also tried their Chicken Parm for the first time, $12.95 for a hefty portion with two chicken breasts, breaded and topped with marinara and plenty of cheese, served with a hearty portion of spaghetti and marinara, a side salad and 3 garlic knots. The knots were smothered in garlic, herbs and olive oil instead of butter like many places. It's was a pleasant variation and we really enjoyed it.

In my opinion, and after reading many reviews, I feel that sometimes a restaurant or any business can have an off day. That being said, this visit is night and day from our previous one. We chose to come on a Wednesday early evening since that usually is a slow period in the area. We did not want to get seated at the bar to eat, and when we came here, there were only a few customers, so we got seated right away by the friendly hostess. My wife and I decided to split a pizza and chose a simple, what I would consider a Margherita pizza, but not called that on the menu (sauce, bufala mozzarella, and basil, with a drizzle of olive oil). This simple pizza was a work of art and likely the best pizza we have had in over 10 years. The crust from the pizza had a wonderful char with the edge slightly raised and the flavor... OMG... even before it got to my mouth, I could tell it was going to be delicious from the aroma of the sauce and cheese. After our meal, I asked the staff if I could take a picture of the oven to post on Yelp, and one of the guys said, "Sure, why don't you come around and see it?" So I walked around and stood at a distance.... It is a wood-fired oven, and I don't have "stupid" tattooed on me, so I knew it was hot. I chatted for a few minutes, and it turned out that the guy who invited me around was the owner, Chef Peyton Smith. He is a James Beard semifinalist for Best Chef in the Southeast. Had I known that, I would have talked more since it is not every day you meet such an acclaimed chef. Regardless, thank you, Chef Smith, and your entire staff for not only turning my opinion around, but for making the best pizza I have had in a long time. If you don't believe the hype, try it for yourself, and you likely will experience what we did.

The customer service was great everyone was friendly, welcoming, and laid-back, which made for a great experience. This was honestly one of the best slices of pizza I've had in a while! Unfortunately, the new staff could use some improvement. They used to have a very pleasant young lady working the register, but the current employees have made the experience much less enjoyable. I'm not sure if the young man and young woman working there now are the owner's kids helping out for the summer, but if they are, they need more customer service training. The young man, in particular, always seems to have an attitude and often cuts customers off while they're speaking. During my last visit, he nearly dropped my bag of food while handing it through the drive-thru window. I tried to ask for ketchup when he slammed the window when he reopened after I knocked on I ordered three meals with fries, and he came back with only two ketchup packets. The food is definitely worth trying, but be prepared for customer service that can make you feel like they're doing you a favor.

It's a fun an eclectic interior with lots of brightly colored art to look at and keep your eyes wandering the space. The bartender greeted us and provided menus, but being so busy, she was was busy filling orders for wait staff, and told us it would be a few minutes. It was about 15 minutes before she came back to take our orders, which I don't blame her for. She was friendly, and informed us she was the only one behind the bar. I asked if that was typical for a Friday night, and she suprisingly said yes. We placed our orders, and both actually I got steak and cheese calzones, and it didn't take too long to come out, maybe another 15 minutes, and well worth the wait. It was big, oozing with cheese and fillings, and had a huge pile of ricotta in the middle, it was absolutley delcious. Very flavorful, very filling, and actually lasted me for dinner and lunch the next day. I've been a fan of Mellow Mushroom since college. The restaurants area always fun, and unique from each other and the food has always been really good quality, but the prices are certainly getting a bit out of control. Large pizzas are now nearly $30! Overall, we had a great dinner, enjoyed our leftovers, and would go back, but I do hope they can get their pricing more under control, but also, have at least 2 bartenders working, especially on busy Friday nights.

When we want pizza, I'm looking for authentic New York style or some brick oven baked charred crust. It was pretty crowded when we arrived but we didn't have to wait long before we were seated. Dominique our Server helped us decide what to order. She was awesome and fun and we could tell she loved her job and the food there. I love that! She highly recommended the garlic knots so we started with those. A surprizingly small eatery, has a separate dining area with booths and some tables. Our server was professional and kind, we ordered our drinks and a start with their version of Bruschetta. This was an excellent start for our evening there. A beautiful presentation of five pieces, nicely toasted with paper thin prosciutto de parma, fresh mozzarella, chopped tomato, capers and balsamic reduction drizzle. Delicious, rich, crunchy, sweet, savory and full flavored. I went for the Parmigiana with chicken, served over angel hair with a rich tomato sauce. A hearty meal, the chicken cutlet was breaded nicely, and pounded thin, cooked very well. The pasta underneath cooked al dante, and it all smoothered in a rich maranara. We also tried the Mediterranean pizza, a 12" and it was huge. A well made pie, loaded with ingredients. The combination of fresh pesto with the mushrooms, olives, banana peppers, roasted red peppers and feta was a solid choice. Along with a cold draft Stella it made for an very good meal. 4 Stars a solid choice for a good meal 01242

Always on the quest to try new things, this was our lunch time stop once day while out and about. It was a beautiful sunny day, and I appreciated that there were outside seating options. There were both exposed and shaded areas, plus plenty of indoor seating. The whole thing their brand revolves around is a large wood-fired oven, and you can see this prominently when you walk in the door. The subtle smoky smell really adds to the atmosphere and makes you hungry right away. We came during lunch time, so we took advance of their lunch specials, where you get a half serving of a pizza plus another item (we both opted for wings as the other item.) I opted for the 4X4 pizza (4 meats) and the Garlic Rosemary wings, while my wife got the Bronx Bomber pizza and buffalo wings. On both sides, the wings were delicious in an unexpected way, grilled but with a nice char, and full of meat. The seasonings on both were just right, and I didn't even bother dipping mine in any dressing. The 4x4 pizza was quite greasy, with oil dripping off when you pick it up. I used a bunch of napkins to blot what I could off, but the amount of grease got in the way of enjoying the flavor. To be fair, it is on an olive oil base, but when you combine that with all the intrinsic fat of the processed meats, it was too much. The Bronx Bomber, however, was much better. With spicy Italian sausage, prosciutto, mozzarella, Gorgonzola, and topped with fresh oregano, it was flavorful but balanced, and good to the last bite. The server we had, who's name escapes me, was very friendly, attentive, and made helpful suggestions. I'd certainly come back here another day for lunch, though I would pass on the 4x4 Pizza next time.
