This place has been sitting here not far from where I live for several years now and I never gave it a chance, so one night on a whim my wife and I decided to do so. Uncle Maddio's is one of those build your own pizza places where they assemble it all to your specifications in front of you then pop it in the oven for a fully customized experience. They also will do the same with salads using any ingredients out on their bar, or you can pick from a selection of things that are already configured if you don't feel like making too many choices. Well, I learned not to order a salad from here. I don't have much to say about it other than that it lacked any kind of flavor, from the greens, to the toppings and chicken, to the dressing (greek vinaigrette). The "bread" it came with was also inedible, like I could not bite through it. I've had good salads from similar style restaurants, but here, all I did was leave hungry and with less money. My wife had better luck with her calzone, but was also pretty meh on the whole thing. I took a bite, and the flavor on that was pretty decent, but with so many options in this space, it didn't stand out above the rest. No regrets on my most recent build your own pizza at Uncle Madio's. Even bad pizza is good, but Uncle Madio's makes a great pie, and I love being able to go down the line and add my fresh toppings similar to a burrito shop. On this visit I got a build your own 5 topping, with meatballs, sausage, ham ricotta and red onion. The staff is always friendly and generous with the toppings. My only complaint is the cost, a medium build your own pizza is over $20, which is a bit insane, fortunately they offer bogo coupons in the Attractions coupon book, otherwise I'm not sure we'd visit this pizza shop very much. read more

We were in High Point today and did a quick search for food nearby and found Uncle Maddio's. The pictures of their pizza's and positive reviews made us dig a bit deeper and we realized they also offer gluten free and cauliflower crust pizza and we decided to stop in. They are located within a larger shopping center with ample parking. We walked in and were a bit surprised to see a setup in which you order at the counter and select toppings, etc. much like a fast casual restaurant. We had it in our minds it would be the type of restaurant where table service was provided. The young men at the counter greeted us as we looked over the menu boards. They offer a build your own pizza option or you can choose from one of their signature pizzas. Sizes range from 10" (small), 12" (medium), or 16" (large). They also offer calzone, bread sticks, and a good array of salad options. We asked how long they had been there and were told about nine years. He also told us there are two locations in the Charlotte area. My wife chose the side salad with no cheese and ranch dressing along with a small cauliflower crust pizza with vegan cheese and tomatoes. I chose the Big Max pizza (pepperoni, Italian sausage, bacon and hand made meatballs), as well as an order of breadsticks. We paid and took a seat at one of the tables. There is a fountain soda machine and they also offer beers in either cans or bottles. There is a station to grab plates, utensils, and napkins along with other items such as parmesan cheese, red pepper, etc. While we were waiting for our order we did a little research because we saw a sign about franchise opportunities. We learned they were started about 2009 in Atlanta by the founder and former president of the Moe's Southwest Grill chain. They currently have about 40 franchised locations primarily in the Southeast. Our order was brought out a few minutes later and looked yummy. My wife really enjoyed the cauliflower crust pizza with the vegan cheese. I also really enjoyed my pizza and thought the dough and toppings were yummy. I've been eating at Maddio's for a few years. They have a full pizza oriented menu that includes wings, salads, and canzones. They also have beer and wine. They are not the lowest priced, but their quality and custom order menu more than makes it a good value. The crew is clean-cut, courteous, well trained and supported. Their food has always been hot, delicious, and arrives promptly. The serving and dining room is casually appointed and reasonably clean. As a Type-2 diabetic, I closely watch the carb and glycemic index of what I eat. Maddio's offers whole wheat crusts which is a huge advantage to me. Beyond that, their whole wheat crust is tasty with a great NY crust chew. I love pizza and can enjoy a reasonable portion here without regretting it and hour later. The medium size pizza was adequate for two people . The pizza however was dry and in my opinion needed more red sauce more cheese and a drizzle of olive oil. The meatball topping though was exceptional. We also ordered a side salad, which nothing exciting. I am originally from NYC so have tried some of the best pizza in the US so do have a high standard . These pizzas were both delicious even though totally opposite flavors. The classic margarita pizza was exactly as I hoped. The herbs and spices blended superbly with the cheese and tomatoes. The Jamaican jerk chicken was fabulous. I know a lot of people might be afraid to order it because it could sound spicy but it was not at all. I like spicy food and would actually add some jerk sauce to it to make it spicier for my taste but trust me it was not spicy at all for my daughter and me. I believe this pizza was her favorite of the two. I couldn't pick a favorite because they were both so good and so different from each other. It tasted like fresh ingredients to me. So the service was pretty slow and it a while for us to get our order out of the oven. But after that they were very kind and asked us if we wanted dine-in and if we wanted them to stay open for a bit longer, we were already feeling bad for placing an order so close to closing time so we just sat outside on the chairs they had which was very nice and pleasant! This is my new favorite pizza place! The staff is always friendly and the ingredients are always fresh. I love the variety they offer, and I also like that they have options for gluten free or vegan customers. Their regular crust, which is what I always get, is not too thin and not too thick, it's really perfect in my opinion. The drizzles they offer really bring the whole pizza flavor together! My favorite drizzles so far are pesto, balsamic glaze and BBQ! This evening, I got a small custom pizza with bacon, goat cheese, mild Italian sausage, roasted corn and red onions, with a balsamic glaze drizzle and also a BBQ drizzle - this is one of my new favorite combinations! The BBQ sauce paired perfectly with the goat cheese and bacon. My mom got a custom pizza as well with vegetables, fresh mozzarella and balsamic glaze. My husband and I found this place a few years ago on the way to a movie at the Palladium. You choose your crust - original, wheat, gluten-free, whole grains(something like that ) and you choose your toppings - which is everything under the sun, including: tofu and Daiya vegan cheese! It is an assembly kitchen liken to K&W, and after you order and have a seat, they bring you your food when it's ready. You can get a personal size, or a medium or large to share, and they have chocolate chip cookies, though no vegan cookies or desserts of any kind. The servers are polite and professional - wearing gloves and masks - and accommodate for allergies as well. The tables all have charger stations for your phones, which is a convenient touch. This new pizza joint is a franchise operation of a growing chain that started in Atlanta in 5 or 6 years ago, and has grown rapidly in the SE USA. They offer 3 crust choices (traditional, whole wheat, or gluten free), 6 different sauces, and 45 toppings to choose from. The founder, Matt Andrews, was one of the founders of Moes' Southwestern, which helps explain the process for ordering and receiving your food. You start down a short cafeteria style line building your meal (pizza, sandwich, or salad) as you go, watching the actual construction, and supposedly you have the option of tweaking it - a little more cheese, please - that sort of thing. The crust are already prepared, and are simply pulled out from a stack as you start the process - no hand tossing here. Besides building your own pizza or salad, there are 10+ Specialty pizza choices, 4 specialty salad options, and 4 sandwiches. Depending on the size, the build your own ranges in price from $7.99 for a small, $12.99 for a medium, to $16.99 for an XL - apparently they simply have no Large. These prices entitle you to 3 topings, with additional topping available for 50 cents to $1, depending on the size of your pizza. You move down the line to finish your order, pay, grab a cup for your drink, and a number on a stand for your table - your meal will be brought to you. They use a high heat oven, so the baking time is somewhat shorter than a traditional pizza - our Medium Pizza was out in a little over 10 minutes. Our medium pizza ($12.99) with pepperoni, green pepper, and extra cheese was not a bad pizza at all - the cheese was nice and stringy, the pepperoni tasty and plentiful, and the green pepper fresh tasting, with a little crunch to it. The crust (we chose the traditional) is thin, in fact, probably as thin as any you will encounter in other pizza joints in the area. For out tastes, it was very nice, and would have been near perfect had it cooked a touch less. We also tried their Italian Sandwich ($7.99), which come on a thick, ciabatta type roll. The meats and cheese for this sandwich are preassembled (like Subway), with the other items added as it moves down the line. There is not a lot of filling to thiis sandwich, and in this type of roll, the real taste of this type of sandwich is rather muted. Probably would not order again. The place is brand new, bright and clean, and basically functional - there is not a lot of comfort in the seating. The music here blares loudly, and incessantly, and is as annoying as any restaurant "background" music I'v encountered - makes Rody's and Jake's seem quite by comparison. The entire ordering process can be time consuming and cumbersome if there is any length to the line in front of you, and especially if some in front of you have kids that are ordering, or simply are confused by the process and the choices. The service is a little disquieting and a little inconsistent - some are a little too intense (do it by the manual intense) with the "Served With Love" motto, others are obviously still learning their roles, and the line will only move at the speed of the slowest component, whether on the employee side or the customer. We liked the thin crust pizza, but the environment and the process is definitely not a favorite. Not sure a return visit is in the cards. read more

Had a good lunch on my first ever visit to Uncle Maddios's. The gentleman behind the counter was awesome, he asked if I had there before and I told him it was my first visit. He was excited to explain everything about the place from ordering process to menu items and specials, he may have been the owner of this franchise, on my receipt beside "Employee" it had "#1 Boss", he was great. Ordering was like at Subway like others say, place order, go through assembly line, pay at the register and they bring the food to your table when it's ready. You fix your own drinks and gather you own utensils, napkins and condiments or what ever else you may need at the drink fountain area. My lunch pizza was traditional crust & sauce with mushrooms. The pizza was very good, the crust and sauce both had good flavors, thumbs up for the pizza. They have cannolis and a variety of cookies at the counter for desserts, I had a cannoli which was very good, #1 Boss piped the filling into the shell as I stood there, very nice sweet treat, not overly sweet filling, it was very good.
