First issue: finding the darn place.  This entire 'corner' is technically the same address but the actual locksmith-shop is 'around the bend' - like two buildings 'up' on Small Street (a 'one-way' you couldn't access if you're already on Hackensack Street). Second issue: on Saturdays they open at 10am.  I got there around 10:20 and it's (still) closed.  (I ventured to one or two other places Google swore could help with getting keys made but they were all a bust) so I found myself... back here, 10:45-ish, and now they were open. You know how every kitchen in America has the infamous "junk drawer" that's a complete mess but you can always find what you need there?  Imagine that "life-sized" and that's what Mario's felt like. It's tiny but it's completely stuffed... keychains here, a 7-foot excited monkey (Halloween?) decoration there, various "floor models" of locks and door frames over here, and what looked like a box of mini-cakes (?!) over there. Guy behind the cluttered counter (whose shirt let me know he's not Mario) was super cool and helpful.   A few minutes later and for about $2/per key - I was back into the wild to continue with my day. Can't go wrong with the (essential) mom-and-pop stores like this that seem few and far between nowadays. read more

Called them to come out and take a look at my 1920's door. I wanted to restore it and use it as a true front door again. Unfortunately the lock no longer worked and was removed. I have to say I am totally in love with my new lock and door ! He helped us pick out a lock and knob set that would go well with the historical look. We spent the weekend giving the old lady love with stripper and new stain. By the time the gentleman showed up she was ready for her finishing touch. He was very careful with the door and made the hole a little bigger to fit the miter lock just right. No damage to my little old lady door and a beautiful lock was installed a couple hours later. I needed duplicate keys for my bike made, but drew a blank from all big box stores (Walmart, Lowe's, Home Depot, Ace, Auto Zone etc.). All these stores carry automatic machines which don't cut all kind of keys. Finally, went to Mario' based on yelp review and it was the jackpot. Jeff fixed my key quickly. The blanks which I had, did not work (they were too thick), so he used his own. One key did not work and he fixed it few days later in a jiffy. All in all, awesome experience, and great guy. He is fun to talk to too. PS: his shop is like candy shop for locks and keys. read more

Needed a copy of the key for my Yamaha motorcycle. After visiting several locksmiths to no avail, I tried Mario's after a recommendation from a friend. I arrived to find the store had closed for the day. As I was looking for a sign with the hours, so I could come back tomorrow, Mario (I assume) walked out from the side of the building. I told him I'd come back in the morning but he opened up the shop to help me anyway. Luckily he also drove a Yamaha and had the blank I needed. Lucky me. I asked for two keys but realized I didn't have enough cash on me. Mario made the keys and told me to drop off the rest of the money when I had a chance. He didn't know me but did me a solid anyway. If I ever need keys again I'll go right back to Mario's. read more

I brought my keyport to get done there. The gentleman was very nice, informative and he was able to get the job done quickly.

I visited this place about a year ago and again today. The first time, my car key was so worn he could not make a copy that worked so he manufactured a brand new key from scratch, without using my old key. I don't recall how much he charged but it was next to nothing. Today he extracted a broken key from my trunk for $10. What a Deal! Top notch Service. Thanks read more

1 star is too kind for their awful service. I purchased a keyport slide without the keys that fit into the keyport because they had run out on 3/11/2017. I was told they would be getting key blades soon and I didn't mind waiting while they placed an order for the key blanks. I also left a non standard key to be sent out and modified to fit the keyport. I was told the keys would be ordered and ready in 1-2 weeks. I followed up the next week to see what was going on and was told to wait another 1-2 weeks and that I would receive a call once my key was ready. I never received a call and I ended up having to follow up myself for a total of 6 weeks before I was told they would call me back and was finally told that they never sent out my key to be modified and asked if I wanted to just pick up my non modified key or have them send it out to get modified. Are you kidding me? What kind of terrible customer service is that? They didn't even sound apologetic about it either. An entire month and a half wasted and I didn't even get what I asked for. I will never go to that place again and I encourage anyone reading this to stay away. If you want a keyport please look elsewhere. read more
